SAN FRANCISCO, CA- The Golden State Warriors should move on from Draymond Green. I know this sounds absolutely blasphemous, how could Golden State cut ties with a player who had a crucial role in the building of a dynasty, and one who is only 33 years old? Six trips to the NBA Finals with four rings to show for it, and all throughout Draymond was there stuffing stat sheets and locking down opposing superstars. This is not that Draymond Green, this is a player who is years removed from his prime seasons. Now, I’m not saying that teams should dump veteran players when their production begins to slip. Veteran players provide wisdom and guidance to younger players and can play valuable minutes at a high level well into their late 30s. This veteran player however, has proven to be a poor role model and is an overall detriment to a team that is struggling to stay in contention for a spot in the play-in tournament.
Let’s take a short walk down memory lane to October of 2022, when Draymond punched up and coming Golden State star Jordan Poole, arguably leading to the eventual trade sending Poole to Washington. Since then he has been suspended three separate times, with an additional ejection on top, none more egregious than his recent impromptu boxing match with Jusuf Nurkic. The NBA has already signaled that they are fed up by handing down an indefinite suspension, which is rumored to be up to 5-15 games. It is time for Golden State to follow suit. Why would a franchise with the pedigree of the Warriors allow the antics of a proven loose cannon continue when the production no longer offsets the headaches that come with it? The answer is that they shouldn’t. Give Draymonds 25 minutes per game to younger and more productive players such as Jonathan Kuminga and make the statement that winning comes first.
