Alright, welcome back, episode two thirty-five of Chaotically Intolerant. We have a packed show for you today. we have some brand new segments. We have John, we have Mike, we have Caleb, all at some point in this show. so you know, just get ready for that, buckle up. We have a long episode. but first, before you do that, go check out Spring Hill Sports Cards, go check out chaoticallyintolerant.com. we have a brand new merch shop, a little bit of like revamp logo that's where you can get this merch here, new hat.

new sweater, even a cup here. I got my cup as well. so go check that out. All of it embroidered by the way. High quality shit, not it's not screen printed anymore. We're not doing that low quality stuff we used to do. but go check that out and let's go.

Okay, so we're gonna start off with a little open topic, a little free run topic here. I'm gonna bring my topic, because this is just an absolutely insane thing. It is baseball related. it's a great time of year, little league world series being played. I mean, I think it's I still think it's the greatest sporting event of all time. Over like overall. It's just I mean, you get these kids, you get to treat them like the pros. You know, it's just it's amazing. They get an ESPN broadcast.

Except for Tulsa. Tulsa, Oklahoma. I'm just gonna read this article because I think I think the article can explain it better. It's from the Oklahoman. why was the Tulsa National Little League team, Little League Baseball team disqualified? Little League International announced Tulsa's national disqualification from the Southwest Region Tournament on Monday, August 10th, just an hour before what would become the championship game between Louisiana and Texas West.

The joint complaint filed by three Southwest region teams asked the league to investigate, quote, whether Tulsa National Little League operated its entire twenty twenty six baseball program in compliance with Little League regulations, playing rules, operating policies, charter requirements, and player eligibility requirements required for international tournament eligibility, according to the complaint, which was obtained by the Oklahoma. In the complaint, the protesters said multiple sources confirmed that Tulsa National Little League.

Partook in fraudulent use of the Challenger program to falsify player eligibility, among other rules violations. The Little League Challenger Division is Little League's adaptive baseball program for individuals with physical and intellectual challenges. Little League World Series rules say players participating at the quote major level, which runs from ages 10 to 12, quote, must have amateur status.

And have participated as an eligible player in eight regular season games by the beginning of the international tournament, with the exception of the school baseball or softball season. The protest also accused Nash Tulsa National of violating the sibling participation rule, which states that players with siblings age seven or under may register in any league program without respect to any geography related eligibility or school enrollment requirements.

A sibling was claimed to have participated in the Tulsa National Little League Challenger program, allowing for an older brother to be eligible. The complaint said the younger sibling involved is ten and therefore not compliant with the rules. In addition, it says Tulsa National did not register or host a challenger program in 2026. This is basically the IM twelve. They're doing the IM twelve thing. How many times has that happened? But it's usually intern it's usually

Someone from like Honduras or Panama, where they're like, We're not actually sure how old they are, because they were born in a rural hospital. I've never seen it from a in on a US team before where someone was too old. So whether saying somebody, one of the kids had an older sibling who was supposed to be eligible because of a disability, the kid not have a disability. So is it like a ringer situation?

It sounds like they it it sounds like they did not well first they didn't even host a challenger pro like they didn't even offer it. They and they said they did. And then it sounds like there weren't even because it continues, it says eligibility protests against Tulsa National Little League softball team. Three weeks ago, Tulsa National softball team had a similar fate. So the softball team's polling this shit too.

Determined that adult volunteers and parents did not quote provide sufficient documentation to verify that all players were eligible to participate in the international tournament based on either the school enrollment or bona fide hab habitation within the league's official boundaries. So this just goes into Tulsa's little league program in general, not just baseball or softball. Just these adults are essentially like illegally recruiting. Yeah. And it's it it doesn't matter.

This is little league baseball. This is little league sports. These are kids. I there are rules set in place for a reason. If you are an adult and you are going to cheat in any sort of little league sport, you're a scumbag. You are a subhuman individual. But it's so common. You shouldn't be allowed to live in society. There you shouldn't be allowed to live in regular society. I played in a little league that produced

multiple major leagues. It was a very serious little league. and one of our teams, one step above the majors level that the where the little league world series is what we're known for. There is a little league world series for one step up, like the 13 and 14 year olds. Our little league got to the world championship. And there were coaches in this little league that took it seriously enough to sign steel, to like scout practices.

try to cheat the draft, and it's just a lot of adults who are feeding their ego through little league sports. And I have another question. Are we sure it's just not that the adults in Oklahoma can't read the rules? Because the rules you're reading, I mean, there's some legal jargon in there, and Oklahoma's 50th in education for a reason. So I'm sure they said all these rules, I can't read that shit. Let's just grab some kids.

Let's just get the biggest kid. Yeah. How old are you? I don't know, like thirteen. Sounds good to me. Hey, shave the bit of stubble above your upper lip because no one's gonna buy that you're ten. It's but I am with it's such a great event. Yeah. And I I I mean, I remember playing little leagues, but you little league baseball, f you play football, you d you know, all the sports. And I just remember these parents that would get involved, like get so crazy.

I think maybe I was just lucky where we had coaches and other parents who were ballsy enough to just stand up and sit like just motherfuck these people and just shame them down and just make them feel so little because you are so little. Like if you if you really like you see people act like that for like professional sports and you're like, Wow, that's embarrassing. Yeah. You do it for kids. A kid's sport, you're just a a loser. You're a bum. You

You have nothing going on in your life if that's what makes you that upset. Yeah, I had a coach that would show up for games in a full baseball uniform. A la, an MOB manager. That rocks. That low-key kind of rocks because only because it probably makes the kids feel like, all right, this like this matters. Like coach is in this. He got he regularly got thrown out of games because he would go out and argue with the Empire.

I mean, like you as Terry Francona or Brett Boone. And the umpire would see him walk out, they'd be Jesus Christ, get out of here, pal. It was it was embarrassing. But there's a lot of that out there. There there is the line. If you're like a really nice at least a really nice coach and you do that, that rocks. That that completely rocks. That's so cool. But if you are an asshole, you are just it's like you just drop down the the level of human being that you are. Just immediately you drop to the very bottom.

of of human beings. yeah. Just let your kids play the game. I have kids now and I mean we go to games. My oldest, when he was five, played T ball. There were parents that were like that. Like, dude, these kids they can't throw. They can't catch. They can't even hit off a T yet. This is the YMCA. Chill the fuck out. Your kid's not the next Bryce Harper. I've never taken a breath.

I have never seen I mean I played a again, I played a lot of rec leagues or a lot of sports. I played or I refed as well. I've never seen a kid. Hard job. Very difficult. To do it like for little kids where you have to have like the you gotta have the ability to judge, like, alright, I'm not gonna call a foul on that. And then you got a parent screaming at you because you didn't like because a a six-year-old got tripped and they're like, that's a foul! That's a foul. You're like, no, he just

Couldn't stay on his feet because he's six. You fucking idiot. But he tripped over his shoelace. I've never in my life played with a kid where it is worth it to scream and yell like that. Where you're like, I'm gonna advance this kid's career by screaming and yelling like an ass at a little league. That's that good, you know it immediately. And the parents say, my kid's gonna be the MLB. No, you'd know it by now. You would literally at twelve, you would

Already know that they're that fucking good. If there's a kid that is that good, if there is a kid that is that good, he's never gonna need someone to yell for him because his ability will stand out ten times more. No parent has ever gotten their kid to the majors just by yelling at the umpire and being like, You suck, that was a strike. He's gonna hit the fucking ball if if it's hittable. Like that that's that if you're that good, they just hit the ball.

No matter what, and they can run and they can throw, but your kid probably sucks. And my kids will probably suck. Sa like in comparison to a professional, they will probably suck. J no offense to your to your children. I love your son, he's awesome. But your son will probably suck. Just based on the percentages. yeah. I remember the first time I ever played against a kid who was like going to be a major leaguer. And in that moment, I realized

I would never be a major leaguer. I was a good catcher. I was a legitimately good catcher. I was probably 12, and we went to a little league in Dade City. And if you know Dade City, not a nice area. and we're talking a little league that was like an all-dirt field, regulation size. We were wearing like our full jerseys, fitted hats, embroidered stuff. They wore sweatpants and t-shirts. They matched, granted.

but their bats were like batting cage bats. You know, they have like the one piece rubber grip with just solid metal. I'm like, dude, we're gonna dog walk these kids. We very bad news bears. Yeah. they had a kid on that team who hit three home runs in a triple, also playing center field like a college player. He was like eleven years old. And on the way home, my dad looked at me and said, Hey John, remember how I told you that when you saw a kid who was that good, you'd know it?

That kid was that good. And I wish I knew his name so I could look him up and figure out that he's like Michael Garcia or something. and I that had no idea that who it was. And that became Junior. And that kid became Hank Aaron. And now you know the rest of the story. I mean, probably very similar upbringing, but like, dude, put you through the grinder playing in a place like that. Don't have all the That was a Simpsons reference.

If if anyone picked that up, that was a Simpsons. I don't watch the Simpsons, though I did play Simpsons Hit and Run, one of the best games of all time. You should watch the Simpsons. one of the greatest baseball episodes of a TV show of all time, Homer at the Bat. You haven't seen it. Do you want to know the the guest list for that episode? And while you look that up, can begin my open topic? Yes. Okay. So

Right now, I'm watching the Field of Dreams game. It's 2-1. Phillies are up. Fucking Netly Mount. I already know where you're doing this Netflix. Fucking Netflix. They n they can't touch sports. They should never be allowed to touch sports. Not after the Jake Ball fight. Man, that what a great broadcast that was. I don't know why I actually watched that, but I did. I feel like every broadcast they have of any sport, or like a live broadcast, it goes out like I remember I don't watch Love Island. I've never watched an episode of Love Island. I remember when the Love Island episode went out.

Because people were like, What is with Netflix? You can't get this right. It's it's a shame that it's on Netflix because I legitimately love it. And I we were laying down last night, on my birthday, had birthday me, and I explained to my wife like what the field of dreams is. She has no idea. And I I explained it to her, it's like one of the great movies of all time. My family farm in Iowa, where my descendants came from.

is not that far from the field of dreams. So growing up when I go visit there, I've been, I think, three times the Field of Dreams. Who it's a cool freaking place, man. Who worked on that farm? what my farm? Yeah. How how did you how did you guys how how'd you work on that farm? How'd your family work make money? No, I know. How'd your family like make money? I don't know the history of my family that well. I do know that my name Sebals

comes from the word an old German in onion farmer, but I think it was soybeans and wheat is what my family grew. Are you quizzing me on my own family? I just I just want to know who was working on the farm at that time. my great grandpa. The one I'm named after actually, the John Henry. Anyway, back to the topic. So I explain what the Field of Dreams is. So they're not actually playing it on the Field of Dreams? No, they're playing it like two hundred yards

To the left of the field of dreams. and I've heard a lot of people complain about that. But would we actually want the field of dreams turned into like a a proper stadium? Or do you want to leave that alone? it doesn't need to be turned into a a proper stadium. But and you but you can't play an ML game on the original. It's not a full-size field. It's not it's not a full-size field.

I have no idea, but I played on it. I played like I've taken that bat on the field of dreams. It is not a full size baseball field. and there's no seating. You'd have to put up stands. You'd have to seat even logistics. I understand the logistics of like we have to have fans because we have to make money. I I that does not that does not matter to me whatsoever. Have the players sit in the bleachers. And like, you know, that's their dugout.

It's the Field of Dreams game. One game. One game. You can go without it. For one one how many game how many MLB games are played in a regular season? f isn't like a thousand. I'm a ma yeah, I'm a math teacher. I'm not gonna go into that. It'll be a hundred and sixty two times fifteen. And I've done enough math for I'm not doing the math in my head. I'm not doing that math. I'm looking up the dimensions now.

dimensions. Here we go. two eighty one to left field. Three fourteen to center, two sixty two to right. So it was Yankee Stadium. three hundred feet to the power alleys.

It's a high school field. Wouldn't that be fucking sick though? That would be so sick. But like I say leave the greatest baseball movie set of all time alone, first of all. Second of all, I appreciate the MLB for not forcing the gimmicks down our throat like the NFL does, where it's like, we're gonna play a game in London. The first time they did it, cool. It was cool. Like one game.

Now it's what? How many international games are there now? we actually we talk about this on a couple segments. we got Australia, we have Germany, Mexico City, Germany London. Is there multiple in Germany? There's multiple. I know there's multiple in London. Hold on. It's ridiculous.

There's gonna be a Super Bowl international soon.

But it's I mean, it feels like every week there's at least one international game. So at this point, it's not even an interesting thing to tune in for anymore. If you're gonna do it once a year, like the MLB has a field of dream games and then they nine international this year. That's a lot of international games. For a season where e where each team only has 17 games, that's a lot of international games. So virtually every team or

What, eighteen teams? Half of the league plays international game. Well, the Jags are like basically the the London London Londonville Jaguars. but yeah. It's ridiculous. It's it's it's it's it's too much. It's way too much. I respect the MLB for not doing 'cause I mean you could expand it. You could do one in multiple historic parks. You could do seven or eight games a year in old Negro League parks. You could I mean you could do all of that. I think

I think Major League Baseball is built better for that though. It's a hundred and sixty two game season. Do a series over there. Like do a series and I would actually do One series in Japan. And that's plenty. One series in Japan for the year is plenty. One field of dreams games. Plenty. I think you could do more. I think you could go that's I think you could go do a series at the old Negro League Stadium. Yeah, but they play they played a game at Rickwood. So we don't need that many. You need one.

One e one a year per gimmick. So when you look at the NFL, you're like one a year per gimmick. Okay, so we have a bunch of gimmicks, but it's one a year. I get it. No, like three I mean, three gimmicks is enough gimmicks. Like over the course of the season, three gimmicks is enough. We mean the NFL like, man, one international game was Not for the major league baseball season. What if we it's a hundred and sixty two games a year? Yeah, but you're still taking home games away from teams. Home games one are not as as impactful.

For a regular for the regular season. For the regular season. As an NFL s cause NFL, you're getting eight eight to nine home games, depending on, you know, your luck with the job. By the way, if you have to go international, that ninth home game if you have a ninth home game or a ninth road game, that should be your road game. Internet like they should just work that out. I I hate when I hear people say they can't do it. Like just fucking figure it out. You're the NFL. Yeah, just figure it out.

It's the it's just the fairest. It's fair. It's just fair. If you have an odd number of away games, they should all just play internationally. Yeah. And just I yeah, I don't love the feeling. And just not do a home and away. Just don't home and away. Who gives a fuck? Mm-hmm. I don't know. This is why I watch the NFL. Yeah. all right. Homer at the bat, Roger Clemens, Wade Boggs, Ken Griffey Jr. Steve Sachs, Ozzy Smith.

Jose Canseco, Don Mattingley, Daryl Strawberry, and Mike Sosha. That's fucking incredible. I'm the watch it now. They are all in that episode. And it's every single it is season three, episode seventeen. All right. And they all have some sort of little gimmick. That's hilarious. if I'm remembering it correctly, Lisa and The Simpsons,

They heckle Daryl Strawberry while he's in right field because he took Homer's spot in the lineup. Because all the other Mr. Burns brings in all these major league ball players so they can win the company softball league. And he hires them to work at the at the plant. And I think it was Mike Sosha who was like, I'm just happy to have a blue collar job. And he actually works at the power plant and then gets radiation poisoning. But they all

encounter some sort of crazy thing that prevents them from playing, except for Daryl, who takes Homer's spot and Homer can't play. So then they're just heckling Daryl Strawberry from the outfield. And they're and Marge is like, well that's mean. Don't yell at him. And Lisa's like, he's a he's a professional ball player. He can handle it. And you just see one single tear fall from Daryl Strawberry's face. Well to be fair, the amount of drugs Daryl Strawberry put in his body radiation isn't gonna fucking bother him.

No, that's Mike Sosa. He's immune. I know, but I'm saying Darryl Strawberry, safe from that. yeah. Yeah. Because to him, that's I think Kinseiko is saving a woman in her burning home. Wade Boggs gets into a bar fight with Barney. That's a real thing that would happen. I can't remember what Clemens was. Griffe drank some sort of drink that gave him like a gigantism and his head.

Blew up. Mattingly had sideburns and Mr. Burns was like, I need you to shave those sideburns. Shave that and he just he he just kept like Mattingly shaved the sideburns. And then Mr. Burns was like, I told you to shave the sideburns. And he just keeps saying it. And he's like, I don't know what the hell this guy's talking about. And then he walks off the field and he's like, I'm not playing. Steve Sacks gets framed for murder. Ozzie Smith falls into a bottomless pit and he's just like

Constantly falling. and then talking softball, Terry Cashman sings talking softball, one of the great baseball songs that you could ever have. But yeah, really good episode. Go check that out. This already this was supposed to be five minutes, just went twenty. So let's jump into our next segment. Alright, so baseball season. We are headed into the most exciting time, I think, in the sports calendar. And and I we so for the back end people.

We recorded half of the show last night. Me and John are recording the second half today. and I just kind of went in I waxed poetic a little bit on just how this is like the best time of the year. You got baseball going into the playoff push, you got the NFL starting up, we have the NBA coming back in October, we're gonna get to see LeBron fly. LeBron cannot get in a helicopter. Why are we letting LeBron get in a helicopter to fly from New York?

To Philadelphia. Why are we letting that hap we can't let our NBA stars get into helicopters? I I'm sorry. We just can't let it happen. Or musicians. Or musicians. Don't let anybody in helicopters. Famous people should not be flying. They just should not be flying. I'm sorry. Which obviously they drive fucking all the time and driving. Just teleport LeBron who and from. Why can't he just teleport? Yeah. You know what I had? I had La Hennessy the other day.

I had LeBron Hennessy. He has that? He has a l there is a limited edition Lehenesy and a buddy of mine bought it. we got fucked up off the Lehenny. I'm seven years sober in four days, but I might break that for just a single guzzle of Lehenny. I wanna listen, the first thing I did when I saw it, I said, I I need the king in me. I need the king in my stomach. I need the king in my bloodstreams. In my bloodstream, not bloodstreams. I need the king in my bloodstream.

That is how I have to start the night. And we ended the night with another La Hennessy just to just to get you to sleep. Because I wanted to be dreaming. I wanted to be dreaming of the king's taste in my mouth. It's not gay. It's not gay. He's a he's a great role model for children. Nobody ever said anything about that. No it was it was it was slightly implied. so you're a Red Sox fan.

And I want to ask you this because I talked about it on my podcast, an episode I'm hoping goes up tonight. about how when you have a team that's that hot, because I I'm sure I have my notes from my podcast, we're talking like a 31 and five stretch. We're getting contributions from Caleb Durbin, like six home runs, twenty nine RBIs, twenty one or twenty one runs scored, hitting three ten. Sennon Rafaella, eight home runs, twenty five RBIs, seven steals hitting two ninety.

to bring in guys like Roman Anthony, Adley Rutchman, Garrett Crochet, you're taking a starting spot away from somebody who was there in that run. And even if they're not an all-star player, like obviously you're gonna replace your fourth outfielder with Roman Anthony. Obviously, you're gonna replace your starting catcher with Adley Rutchman because that's what you brought him in to do. Jake obviously you're gonna bucket. That was the one I was excited for, Jake Rogers. Yeah. The second the second part of the Adley trade.

He actually did make an immediate impact too. Good. But like you know what I mean? If if all of a sudden you bring these guys back in and you're still scorching hot, is that not bad for the overall mentality? Because everybody on the team is gonna say, Yeah, we need these guys back. They're elite players. But it's still messing with the momentum. It's messing with that chemistry you built in that immediate time. I think for everybody else, the Red Sox losing a few and cooling off.

right before you get some of those guys back is worst case scenario for the rest of the AL. Because what's gonna happen is those reinforcements come in and they're gonna go on another tear. Roman Anthony's gonna get hot. Crochet's gonna look like a like a Cy Young. Adley Rutschman is going to be like second year Adley Rutschman and the Red Sox are going to probably win the American League. My take. And if it lines up, I think Red Sox Rays would be a

phenomenal series because it would go to show who had the best trade deadline. I said the Rays, you said the Red Sox. Said that on my show. But I I think the Red Sox might win the AL East. I think I think that's such a with a team as volatile as this Red Sox team and and I mean it's a young roster and you have these guy I mean Wilson Contreras is an incredibly volatile person. We've seen him I mean I what was it like

There was like three or four days where he started like three or four fights. Like the benches cleared multiple times as a result of of you or he was involved. He was in not as a result, he was involved in multiple benches clearing in a very short amount of time. I think when it comes to volatile teams, there's just no real there's no real telling. I really don't think there is like a perfect a perfect spot to do that. Because

If you bring them in when they're hot, some people are going to say you're messing with the juju. You're and other people are going to say, well, they're you're just making them better. You bring them in while they're bad, some people will say they're, you know, this is gonna fuck some guys up mentally because it's gonna make them think that their spot is open. Like they have an open spot, you know, the no no one's spot is secure, which nobody's spot should be secure when you're playing. But mentally if you're the guy who's given up his spot for Roman Anthony, you knew that you were holding Roman Anthony's spot.

I don't think that's a shocker. If you're the fifth starter, you know that you're only getting those innings because Garrett Crochet's in the IL. I think some guy I think some guys would see, hey, we went on a run. We can do that again. Like, this guy wasn't here. You know, he's very good, but he wasn't here for it. But again, I mean that's such that's such like a tight this is a tight rope to it's baseball. Like baseball is so weird and it's such a tight rope to walk where you just you never know what's gonna hit at the right time and what's not.

I mean they they had that stretch and then they lost five in a row immediately and then they just won seven nothing today. Caleb Durbin hit a grand slam. Yeah. Second grand slam in what? In like a month and a half? Something like that. This team makes no sense. The the Red Sox make no sense right now. And it just shows and the the pitching has been overall, like throughout the season, it's been pretty damn good. It's just been the bats. The bats have refused to be consistent or just wake up at all.

And we saw that the last five games during the losing streak. so I I think you gotta put the best team on the field that you think. Like you can play you can play the streak game when it comes to little stretches, right? Like if you're in the playoffs and you're just you're running through teams and you see like, all right, we're just we're just gelling right now, you don't break up a very hot playoff team.

Right. Like you just roll you roll the same lineup out because for some reason that lineup is just going. But if you're in the regular season, this is your time to tinker a little bit. This is your time to say, like, let's see what we can do here. And again, it's not like they're in the middle of that hot streak of the thirty three. Were they thirty three and five? Thirty one and thirty-one and five. I thought it was more. I thought they I thought it was thirty three and five. See now my notes w this my notes for this recording were written on like August eighth. So I could I could I

Very possibly could have missed the two games after. We played five games since I think they played because they 'cause they were also I was looking at their schedule. They were gonna play like eighteen games in eighteen days or something like that. They they did not have a day off for a while. so I don't think there's like a perfect formula. I think But does losing a few games in a row make it a lot easier to make those calls? Yeah, definitely. Yeah. I think it's definitely for the manager, yeah. Or, you know, if you're if you're

Yeah. You lose five games in a row. You're like, all right, we gotta change it up now. You know, that does show that you're you're actively no you know, no one is safe. So I don't know. The baseball minds are weird, they're fucked up. I don't think there's if your team is if you are a good ball club in the end, you're gonna win. And if you're a bad ball club in the end, you're gonna lose. And if you can't stay healthy, you can't stay healthy. There's nothing you can do about that. You know, but we've seen we've seen good ball clubs get hurt and they just they just don't succeed. Right now you'd be getting

New York.

In the first round? Mm-hmm. Season of the day, you'd be getting the New York Yankees. Give it to me. That'd be a good th that'd be back to back years. Back to back years. Get your get back. Last time that happened was was O three and four. Did you win either of those World Series? We won one of Won one of them, yeah. There was it w there was like a a very notable deficit in that series against the Yankees. I I I I believe I remember. Some people have heard of it.

Mm-hmm. There a big curse that got broken. It was that it was that movie, Fever Pitch. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, that was that movie. So, that was a movie. That little feature film. Great movie, by the way. Great movie. Amazing movie. For you You love the Red Sox, but have they ever loved you back? My dad, my dad says that quote to me all the time when I get pissed off about my sports teams.

Like if I get pissed off by the Colts, it's like you love the Colts. But if they ever loved you back, I'm like, shut up, dad. I want to be mad about this. Peyton Manning. Peyton Manning or Brady. I got an argument about about this last night at dinner. we're going to the NFL. I just want an answer. I I don't think there's like a right answer. S I mean, obviously, achievement wise, it's Tom Brady. You there's there is not a

If if there is someone out there that is that is arguing that Tom Brady does not have the greatest achievements in NFL history, you're just that's a bad faith argument. You're arguing with a dumb person. You're arguing with someone who had a a bias going into that. They had an agenda. Like they're just dumb. I'm sorry. They Brady is the most successful quarterback in the NFL. If you want to talk about like a cerebral quarterback or like, you know, like a the idea.

of a quarterback in the NFL, I think Peyton Manning is like the perfect quarterback like for that position in the NFL. Yeah. He just wa like he was the sh there's a reason they call him the sheriff. That's not a knock on Tom Brady at all. And Tom Brady defeated Peyton Manning more times than Peyton defeated Brady. Like you you can't be like a r a football fan and be like, yeah, Tom Brady sucked. Like you just

'Cause I hear people say that. They're Yeah, Tom Brady sucks. I'm like, Are you fucking stupid? Like, I hated the guy when he was playing. But he was the most successful and the most clutch quarterback of all time. Manning was not as clutch, not nearly as clutch as Tom Brady was. We saw Manning choke many times in the playoffs, but as a pure quarterback, I think Manning is better than Brady. Yeah.

We argued this at dinner last night. At my birthday dinner for about fifteen, twenty minutes. We settled on Brady. Who was on what side? Who was on what side? I was on Brady. I was on Brady. My dad was on Brady. That's fine. That's perfectly fine. Well, what was what was the br I mean, I assume the Brady argument was he won seven Super Bowls. He was literally in the AFC title game every fucking year for how long? My dad said, Well, who would you rather have with a minute fifty on the clock down by six? You take Manning. I'm like, Yeah, but if I'm down like

twenty eight to three in the Super Bowl, I'd probably rather have Brady 'cause he did it. I don't know. That's the greatest comeback in NFL history. I still might take I don't care what deficit it is, because there there were there were a lot of times Manning choked. There were a lot of those Colts teams went down like in the first round. They I mean they the Chargers were a bugaboo for for the Colts repeatedly in the playoffs.

They lost to the Dolphins, I think, in O which was the last Dolphins playoff win. Unbelievable. But in like the wild card round in 01 or 02, I think. Dolphins in the second year. They went fourteen and two and they got bounced. Like that Peyton just he only won two Super Bowls. And one of them was in Denver. And yeah, he had the 55 touchdown season. That was an amazing season. But it's unequivocally, the more I talk about it, the more I talk myself into Brady, which I hate that.

Because he's fucking Tom Brady and he's annoying and he's getting into fights with Logan Paul at Fanatics Fest. That's hilarious, by the way. Fuck Logan Paul. It's it's so not funny. It is so I have to say, it was the it was the least funny thing I've ever seen 'cause I was just like, This is the most capitalist thing I've ever seen on the planet. It is a festival for the cheapest sports merchandising company ever. Yeah.

And they just pay all these athletes. I refuse I refuse to work with fanatics. I actually I do swear off fanatics now. I will not buy anything off their website. Yeah. It's carrying Just go straight to the new website. Go straight. Fuck Michael Rubin. No. Get get the knockoffs. Get the knockoff shit. Every knockoff jersey I've bought are better. All perfectly stitched. I showed you guys those those movie jerseys that I bought.

For like twenty-five bucks, perfectly stitched, and they're just more comfortable than than what we have now. Cause a jersey's supposed to be a little uncomfortable. Yeah. That's not that uncomfortable, like fanatics. You ever see an idiocracy where they have the they look like big tissue boxes and they're they're disposable clothing dispensers where he pulls out a shirt and it's like a tissue paper material.

Yeah, it's disposable clothing in a disposition. That is literally fanatics. That is what fanatics produce. It's Sheen. It's just Sheen. But the most disgusting thing is Michael Rubin hosts a white party every year. Mm-hmm. That I'm pretty Isn't that just weird? That's fucking weird. And it's just all celebrities. Diddy esque. Yeah, he's like he's Diddy adjacent. Michael Rubin is very Diddy adjacent. Yeah.

This is getting into a weird topic. Let's Michael Rubin Freakoffs. Let's move. Course correct. I'm course correcting here. How did we get there? The Royals, the Royals failed to to sell. I've never seen that before. I have. We I've never seen I've never seen team a team get an F in selling their team their team. It's like, how are you sure? Yeah. I'm up early to teach math.

How do you have so many dispensable pieces like Michael Walker, Seth Lugo? But we've done this so many times. Alex Gordon is probably my favorite royal of all time. We could have traded him in 2017 and got a haul. We could have traded Salvador Perez a few years ago and gotten a haul. We eventually traded Wit Merrifield after letting all of his best years go by and we got nothing for him. We're doing the same thing. You could have traded Michael Walker to the Cubs and gotten something.

You could have traded Seth Lugo somewhere. They could have put him back in the bullpen. we traded Bubich, we could have traded Daniel Lynch. We could have traded Starling Marte somewhere. You could have gotten s get something. It's like people that just hang on to junk. Like the people that hung on to all the Beanie Babies, and now they're worthless. That's what the Royals do. Like it their price tags. Starling Marte's price tag's not going up. NFTs. NFTs. Yeah. The Royals are like NFT collectors. We're like

Whip Merrifield could be worth more at thirty-four than he is at twenty nine. Like how what is this mentality? Let me run the team. I promise you I could have pulled up a better trade deadline. I thought I don't know why. How is Salvador Perez still playing? 'Cause he's chasing records. He's chasing records. He feels like that like everyone's worked at a company where there's like the old man who just works there, he comes in, collects a check.

They just need him they they need him to like just he just kinda hangs around. He's there for, you know, the spirit and all that stuff. And he was with the company in the glory days. He was with the company, you know, he helped build the company originally, so he deserves it. Obviously, I'm not shitting on Salvador Perez. But it's just like he just feels like the old man. You're j you know, I bet like the younger players walk in, they're like, What? What's that guy's position? What does he do? And they're like, That's just Salvador Perez. He brings joy. He's just Salvador Perez.

I know chaotically intolerant is trying to get more into like pop culture. Do you remember in the movie Office Space when they interview the guy, they go, What exactly do you do? Yeah. That is Salvador Prez. I I bring the joy. I make people smile. I'm like the Barney of baseball players. I'm slow. I swing at everything. I can't really hit for power anymore. I defensively, defens yeah, defensively, I'm not great behind the plate.

And they go, Salvi. And we're just, we just go on with our day. But granted, if there's a there if there's gonna be a season for a franchise player to just stat pad, this is the perfect season because we've got nothing else going on. I'd tune in for three things. Jack Caglione, Bobby Wood Jr. is gonna do something amazing, and then to see what antics Salvador Perez gets up to. He's gonna try to stretch a single into a double and get thrown out by 15 feet.

I've gotta be there. I have to be tuned in. Because it could be the last time Salvador Perez ever gets thrown out by 15 feet. You know, he has a long history of it. And I want to be there to watch the last time it happens. maybe what maybe he'll try to steal a base. Who knows? You never know what's gonna happen. But it's exactly the point. What does he do here? That's go ahead. How I want to see what is Salvador Perez's career stolen bases.

I'm gonna guess eighteen. He almost he almost feels like Milton in in Office Space, where they're like, well, well, we fired him like three years ago, but there was a mistake in billing, and he never like the checks never stopped coming, so he just never stopped coming in. And I bet the Royals front office, at some point, they're gonna be like, well.

Let's just stop sending him checks and see how long it takes for him to knock. I love playing baseball. Like Sal, we don't pay you anymore. I love baseball. By the way, it's six. He has six. We want to avoid conflict at all costs. You can't let Salvi go. Now, granted, twenty twenty-one, one of the greatest catcher seasons of all time offensively. He was phenomenal. Yeah, six stolen bases.

He has 12 career triples and he has a triple this year. He's also he's also not that old. I feel like he's like 45. He's what, 36? 36. Yeah. He's not that old. He just feels old at a he's he's just been around forever. Like he's he just came up at twenty one and he was like immediately pretty good. Like right away. He was pretty good. He's like when when Juan Soto's thirty five, people are gonna be like Juan Soto has been playing for 18 years.

He has to be forty two. No, he's like thirty two. Or Bryce Harper. Bryce Harper. What's he at career home runs now? Bryce Harper. Let's look it up. Yeah. Because if you if you put him in like a normal career and did his home runs, he wouldn't even be close to to hitting five hundred by the end, right? Three eighty eight. He said three eighty eight. I yeah, he'll get there. He's thirty three. He'll definitely no, he'll get there 'cause he started so early, but like if you did his

You know, if if he was like at the same rate but at a normal career length, like he's probably not gonna get there. He had a five point two war as a nineteen year old.

That's unbelievable. He got MVP votes. He was a th he was an all-star as a nineteen year old rookie. He was the MVP at twenty-two.

I will accept no Bryce Romper slander. Well, and it it also like doesn't hurt that he was having his videos go viral at sixteen taking batting practice. Dude is hitting five hundred foot home runs and he was like hadn't even finished puberty. And he's hitting ball like wait until this guy gets like all of his tet testosterone. Wait till he can grow a full beard and see what he's doing. Now it feels like now it feels like you see a video like every day of a of a sixteen year old.

I think it's like I play baseball. I can hit home runs. I can hit one out of an MLB park. I'm like, how? I don't really think it's because maybe maybe I'm just like unaware, but maybe I don't think it's because kids are getting better at the game. I just think it's because of the exposure. Like you're just they're playing every they're playing at a more competitive level than ever. Like when I'm 34. AAU existed, but when I played, it was more of a thing like.

You do it in the off when you're not playing little league. You play little league. Then when you get to high school, you play for your school team. And AAU is what you do kind of in between it. You know, you get you get a call from some local team like, hey, in between fall and spring ball, you want to come out and play a tournament or two? Now it's like kids are playing AAU baseball at seven years old year round. And it's terrible for them, for their social life, for their development as a human being, but

You're gonna be really good at baseball by the time you're sixteen years old. Because you've been playing with like legitimate coaching, analytics since you were in elementary school before you could read a full book. You were a I remember I did I did score keeping for an AAU tournament, like a summer or a summer league. So like one summer, all I did was and I got paid, obviously, score kept for a like kids baseball league.

And I just sat up in sat up in the booth because they had to like keep track because it's AAU, so like they had to keep track of all their stats and stuff. And just sat up in the booth and I was probably I don't know, I was probably in seventh grade, and I think I did it for like the fifth grade team or something. Maybe I was younger. But and then we we played the championship game at Ed Smith Stadium, minor spring training ballpark.

Mm-hmm. And I remember sitting we got to sit up in the scoreboard, like in the score booth, and score the game. Score the championship game up there. But why do fifth graders why do fifth graders gonna be playing at that kind of level? Like shouldn't they be focused on like making friends and learning to I don't know, but I was getting paid at like in like sixth grade. Like when you get paid for anything in sixth grade, you're like, Yeah, let me go fucking do that. I think it's a bad thing.

when any extracurricular activity for children gets to the point where parents are spending more on that than they are on their like living expenses. Yeah. Because all you're doing is putting such a massive barrier in between talented kids and exposure. And that is why hockey will never take off in America. Because you have to be like upper middle class at minimum to play it.

When would when was the last when was the last time Canada won a Stanley Cup?

Brother, I couldn't tell you It's been fucking forever. Because the United States still owns hockey. The US owns owns the NHL. Don't talk to me about the players being international. I don't want to hear about that. The US, they still they won the Olympic gold medal. USA owns hockey. Like, fuck Canada. Fuck the rest of USA owns the house. Here's my point though. Here's my point. And I'll bring it around. I will bring it around, because I always do. Where do the majority of baseball fans come from? Like in the Americas.

Why are why would a child be a baseball fan? Because what does he do in his in his free time? Players. Plays baseball, right? Okay. What sport has the lowest barrier to entry? Two. Basketball. And soccer. Because if you have a ball, you can play basketball. If you have a soccer ball, you can play soccer. Well, you get the point. There's a hoop, there's a hoop at every park.

I could walk to 15 basketball hoops right now if I wanted to. if you wanted your kid to go play hockey, can you drop him off of the park and let your kid play hockey? Roller hockey, maybe. But you need you pay for ice, you pay for very expensive equipment. And why are there not more young hockey fans? Because what percentage of kids play hockey versus the percentage of kids that play baseball, basketball, football? The lower the barrier to entry, the bigger the fan base you're gonna build.

Because kids want to be fans of the things that they play. Why do kids watch guys play Fortnite on YouTube? Because that's what they do for fun. Right? Yeah, I can't I can't do that. No, no, I get that's stupid. But it's the same concept. Why do kids why are they not I get I get what you're saying? Young hockey fans. Yeah. Yeah. So cut the private equity out of children's sports. And by the way, what a great wrap around to our opening segment.

The Little League World Series. Way to bring it back home. That was playing the whole time. We knew we were gonna That's why you come here. That's why that's why the fans come here to listen. That's why you guys listen. Yeah. People of Baltimore are gonna love this. They're gonna fucking hate us. I took fucking Harold Baines in the snake draft. Spoiler alert. I took fucking Harold Baines as my DH in the snake. Who got Repkin? Holy shit. Caleb. He got it, he had the one pick. Number one.

Of all people, man. Of all freaking John John's not a John's not a Caleb fan. No. I think he's honestly I think he's he's a gimmick. Speaking of gimmicks, I think Kay I think gimmick I think Caleb is a gimmick. I think Caleb is a p is a character you created to play a gimmick. Well if Caleb was actually gonna show up tonight, if he had the balls to show up to the show tonight, you guys could have hashed it out. But maybe we can do that next week. We'll see.

Caleb, you had to put Caleb on a separate segment because he's he's scared to face me. Caleb is Manny Pacquiao and I'm Floyd Mayweather. He doesn't want to see me in the ring right now. Floyd just wants the money. He just he'll take any sort of amount of payday. I am a teacher. I'll take any money you got. Am I getting paid for this? Is this a paid gig? I'm not getting paid for this. well, never mind then.

No, I'll do it for free because I like you. I like you a loss. That's good. Alrighty. We're gonna move to the next segment. All right. It's the most wonderful time of the year. The NFL is back. We're I mean, we're really coming in on a great time to live. You have the NBA coming back with LeBron gonna be playing 50 games this year. the NHL is coming back. We got the NFL starting the preseason and then playoff baseball coming up. Let's talk.

A little bit of NFL before we jump into the other stuff. any have you guys seen any of the travel plans for the Australia game? Because Mike, Mike, we are well known of of hating international football games. We can't stand them. San Francisco's gonna be going eight days ahead to give themselves some time to get used to the time zone. And the Rams will be flying in, I believe, on the exact same day, and then leaving the same day.

So completely opposite. Mike, I want to get your take. Let's just hear a little bit on your love of of the Australian football game first. I j I just don't understand what this even is at this point. I mean, it's to start the season too. I mean, I I guess if you're gonna do it, you do it to start the season, but it just it just throws everything off. I mean what like remember the Packers and the Eagles? They had to they were told to stay in their hotels.

We'll send you to Brazil. Supposed to be great. It's Brazil. And now we put you in a crime riddled area. It's just who is this b I mean, it's it's benefiting the NFL in but it's benefiting no fans, no players. And it just kinda it just kind of proves, I think, everything that we've seen in terms of the trends of adding more games and more days and more networks. It's I don't know. Don't get me started on it. It's too early. Too early in the show, too, too early in the year.

Mike, what or Caleb, what do you think about the the international games? I kind of do like that they're doing it in preseason. I mean, I I get that they're still doing regular season ones, but I think No, this is this is the this is week one. This is for a week one game. this is week one. All right. Yeah. This is an Australian week one game. then I I don't like that. They prefer that they do that kind of stuff in the I've never been a big fan of the

the overseas games. I mean the Patriots have had a couple and they've lost, so maybe I'm a little biased there, but I I feel like it kinda it kinda messes them up a little bit with the travel schedule and the the hotels, different completely different country and all that. I'm I'm not a huge fan of the of the overseas games, to be completely honest. I don't know. I do I do remember Gardner Minshew in Germany against the New England Patriots and

Mac Jones and it was Mac Jones and Bailey Zappy sharing it. I think Bailey threw the interception in the end zone at the end of the game. if it was at the end of the or was it Mac Jones? If it was at the end of the game, it was Zapy, but I know Jones had a horrible interception in that game too. Well, I think the score was like twelve to nine. It was like a horrible football game to watch, anyways. But I if you if you were gonna go to play in Australia

I I almost would prefer just fly in that day, play your game, and then leave. I mean you get a free trip to Australia if if you're the forty niners where you're going eight days ahead, but then then you gotta pack for eight days. That sounds like a horrible a horrible like just decision like i it's so difficult strategically for you. You gotta I mean packing for eight days is incredibly difficult to do.

Of course. I but you know what what what is this just to get them acclimated and then they gotta come back? What they don't have a week to buy, do they? Nobody has a week to buy. Not a single soul has a week to buy. I don't know. I mean, I don't even know how the players agreed to all this. I mean, they really the the NFL PA has zero leverage. I mean, they talk about why baseball's gonna have a lockout, it's because the players' union is so damn strong. The NFL's pl NFL Players Association is spineless, and I think the

But I heard, at least that what's been theorized, is that the quarterbacks don't really get involved. The the guys who would whose voice would carry the most weight in the players' association, they don't get involved in in those talks. It's linemen and special teams guys or whatever. It's not, you know, like in baseball you have Bryce Harper, right, sticking up for the PA. It's it the the and that's how we ended up that's really how we've ended up as with this entire shift from

you know, football on mostly Sundays and Mondays to what we have now, playing every country, every week, every day. It just feels like there's too much football. And yes, there is such thing.

Is Bryce is Bryce Harper going to be suspended for gambling? Is that something is that true? Because I saw Congress asked Major League Baseball to look into that. I don't even know about that. I didn't even hear anything. Yeah, I haven't heard that either. Really? I got an Apple news notification saying Congress has asked Major League Baseball to look into a Bryce Harper video of him gambling. Unless I just like had a dream because I've been taking melatonin.

go to sleep and I've been having some wacky dreams. Maybe that just slipped into my mind. What a weird thing to have a dream about. Sounds like he was trying to incentivize a better to make more bets who was already addicted. Yeah, that's what I'm seeing. And apparently that better is suing the sports book. So it's a it's for being terrible at setting. That's your fault. Can the alcoholic sue?

W Alex, you're you're in Maryland now. You've gotten you have you gotten acclimated with the freedom of the of the betting market? Well, I actually have not really done any betting yet, waiting for the NFL season. But it that would be a good segue into our very Baltimore based topics in this episode. All right, another new topic we have on the show is the Maryland spotlight. No, it is not the

Boston Globe spotlight where we you know, expose predators. we're just gonna be talking about Maryland based sports. And let's start it off with a sad note, Mike. The Baltimore Orioles. it's feeling like it's over. The the young core that they were building around. I mean, Adley's gone. Gunnar Henderson is gone this offseason. Is that fair to say? No. I I don't

I don't think so necessarily. I mean, I think I think there's a like it's hard to say, I'm I'm excited about the the nine, you know, players that the Orioles brought in as as part of this trade hall because let's face it, you know, they've already gone through rebuild and in a way getting rid of Rutschman is kind of symbolic in a way. That's like is there an admission of failure in doing that? Maybe. but I don't hate the trade because I think

If you don't feel like the guy has developed into a star and you can get something for him, then you need to do that. And the Orioles made this mistake before Elias got there when they had Zach Britton and Manny Machado, and clearly were trending in a bad direction and held on to those guys way too long. And they lost a lot of their trade value. And so I don't know. It it feels like the Orioles are kind of they're not going into another rebuild, but they're kind of stalling and sort of

transitioning from one rebuild to another or something, but I it's just the it it's pathetic that they're alive in the American League. You know? Like the American League sucks. It's terrible. And yet I mean the Red Sox were in it four they were four games under five hundred and they were s like a game out of the wild card at one point. Yeah. Yeah, I I think

But I I also think with having Samuel Basillo in the equation, it it's not like it's this egregious like now we don't have a catcher and now it you know, they have their catcher of the future. It just became a situation too where I think they felt like they could choose one and get something for the other. And it they weren't gonna trade Basayo this early on. And Rutschman's been he's been on the IL three times this year. Right? That's another thing. He's staying on the field as much as it is his actual production and performance. He

You know, he he played in only ninety games last year. but yeah, i it's it's sad, but it's not it's not like the death of the Orioles, but it's a little bit of a dam a damning evidence a little bit against Elias, I suppose. What do you guys think? Red Sox I'd call it a I'd call it a death of the twenty twenty six Orioles. they were never alive really to begin with. It never felt

There were some expectations going into the season. I don't think with that pitching staff you could really go in with too much confidence. But I on that on the Rutschman note, I do think they they sold Adley at the right time. I mean, he's he's had the injuries coming through the last few years. There's been the regression progressively over the last two, three years, call it. And he started off hot before the injuries. He w I th I think he had a two war before he went down with the with the wrist.

But they did sell, I wouldn't call it sell high, but they sold at a higher value than he's been at in the last couple of years. And you see with the package they got for him, the they definitely got the value they were looking for. but I think progressively over the next few years, you got to build around Gunner, you got to build around Basal. You saw the report from I for I forget who gave the report, Heyman or or someone like that, that Gunner probably won't re-sign.

But I think you kind of just gotta do everything you can in your powers to to lock him up, bring him back and use that that big deadline of prospects that you gathered this this this deadline and just build around those two guys and use all your money on pitching over the next two offseasons. I don't hate it. I don't hate it. I mean, Henderson has had just a really tough year. he's hitting two fourteen and he any of the other numbers to me don't matter.

It's just the sky's your leadoff guy.

It's it's just so hard to tell what direction this team's gonna go in. Are they gonna just kind of stay middling? Are they gonna just plummet, or are some of these guys gonna suddenly come up in the near future and make an impact? I don't know. It's just such it's just has been such a weird season. Every time it's they're about to just officially kind of wave the white flag and be done with the season, they're kind of still in it and the American League and all that. But it just it's never felt like this year that this team has what it takes.

Mike, in that little that that core of young guys that they had, how many of them did you feel were as advertised? you mean like they they div at this point, how many of them are as advertised? Like is Jackson Holiday at this point in his career as advertised? Would you have expected more from him? Well you know

it we still have to remind ourselves he's twenty two years old and there are signs that he is starting to come into his own a little bit. I think he still I think it's it's not fair to really judge Holliday for another year or two. I I really don't. I I do think he's shown flashes and I think that those flashes have made us yearn for more. But I don't know that realistically we could have expected too much more. It's it's Henderson

That has been a real disappointment. And it's been Rutschman too. Basal before he went on the I. He was, you know, again, he's also very young. I believe he's 22, I think. Dylan Beavers, you know, there's like a good young core. To me, the guys who are really hurting this team are like Tyler O'Neal, you guys know Tyler O'Neal pretty well, right? Tyler O'Neill. Yeah. Colton Kowser is at 211. He's not even a full time starter. I mean

I Kowser to me is we don't really talk about him. He's been maybe the most disappointing one of all. Because this was a guy that was what in rookie of the year two years ago, broke his hand, broke his finger in the playoff game against the Royals. And to me, he's just never been the same since. He just has not even won. I've been frequenting Orioles games, as you guys know, I let you know. and I hear, you know, the cheers for Colton Kowser and I get fan bases have fan favorites and stuff.

I I j I just don't get it. Like I look at this guy's numbers because I obviously I don't follow the Orioles religiously. So, you know, I hear them talk about a guy, I'm like, this guy must be pretty good. Look up his numbers. I mean it is like I was all I'm like astounded. I'm like, This is your this is your guy you move for. You move for this guy? Like this I I thought they were making fun of him mooing mooing for him 'cause he's Colton Cow like just saying this guy's so bad. I I don't know. I I didn't Yeah.

It has not impressed me any of these guys really. Yeah, well I and and I'll throw Kobe Mayo in there too. And again, you he's he's improving, he's playing better of late, he's starting to hit right handers. Again, he's twenty four. I mean, he hasn't really had you you it's hard to judge a guy who's played in let's see what he's played in hundred and ninety six career games, so a little over a full season. Yeah. It I I think there's just it it

It's true that these guys have not quite lived up to expectations, but I wanna just say, Hey, let's give it another year or two, as frustrating as it is. but Kowser it might be time to move on from and who knows, Henderson, I mean obviously can't trade him now, but yeah.

And Caleb, how how are we feeling about the Adley trade? obviously this Red Sox team gave up a lot. I think I really think it was important for them to go for a big catcher that they can rely on to say we have a catcher. I mean, when I think of Red Sox catchers and and you y there are legends out there in in Red Sox history. I mean, Veritech most recently. Hella even even though Salty wasn't really that good.

I think of Salty, in in thirteen. It just hasn't felt like they've had a guy like that. I mean, a a true captain and and Adley feels like the closest right now to that. And is that worth giving up what they gave up?

See, I I love the move, obviously. it's an overpay. You can say that two things can be right at the same time. The Red Sox fulfilled the need and they overpaid. That's completely fine. Prospects are prospects at the end of the day. You never really know how those guys are gonna pan out. I mean, I do like Anthony Ianson. I think he is a future ace in the league, but you gotta give up good players to get good players. So

Sox haven't had a s a all star catcher since I believe it was twenty ten, Victor Martinez. So you you you've seen these guys that come through Salty, Sandy Leon, Tristian Vasquez, good good catchers, solid leaders. But this is the first David yeah, I love David Ross. Leader. But this is the first time you've really felt that the Red Sox have a bona fide potentially long term catcher if they can get that extension done.

Well it's a a complete breath of fresh air from the last few years where rotating guys Narvaez, Connor Wong, Reese McGuire, Ali Sanchez. The list goes on. This feels like the first time in a while they've had a solidified leader catcher that hopefully when healthy can produce offensively, but at the very least you know you're getting a gold glove caliber catcher.

And so I'm I'm completely okay with the overpay. I think both both sides came out winners on it.

Love Andy on that much and love Andy as a card too, by the way. I think he's a stud.

Anything on the trade, Mike? No. I think they I think they actually did get a pretty good haul, the Orioles, honestly. All things considered. I think that they if you're gonna do it, you're gonna trade him. You do it when his value's highest. I mean it's you know, we were everyone was sitting there kind of being like, well, Tigers feels like they got nothing for Scoobyl. Feels like the Orioles got more for Brutchman than the Tigers did for Scoobyl. Yeah. And give me give me the next.

When is the next Orioles playoff appearance? Just rough estimate. I mean, I I can't imagine we're seeing it next year, right? I'm gonna say twenty-eight. I was leaning twenty-eight too. I say twenty-eight or twenty-nine, depending how quick some of their the top ten ones can come up and how they choose to spend their money over the next couple years. I mean, what what happened with the pitching this year? It it feels like a lot of times with with the O's, the the pitching, at least in this recent era.

They just collapse when they're needed most. I mean, they they didn't even show up this year. Well, Rodgers got off to a horrendous start, which really hurt. Shane Bass got off to a pretty bad start. Dean Kramer was on the injured list to start the year. Now he's out there one hitting the Orioles as a member of the Minnesota Twins. the guy I really like, who's who's had pr the bet honestly the best year, is Brandon Young.

They went out, they signed Chris Bassett, which is what they do. They go out, they get a Chris Bassett, they re sign Zach Efflin. Bassett's on the 60 day I. They're giving Cade Povich another shot. I like that they so what's it what I find interesting is Rogers didn't get traded. Rogers is a rental. Would have been a rental. His contract's up this year.

There's hope that I have that he likes pitching in Baltimore. He's seen that Bradish got an extension and that maybe the Orioles will actually resign him and he'll actually want to stay in Baltimore. I think with those two guys, if Brandon Young stays on this trajectory, if Shane Baz can I mean, his numbers are decent, is the consistency as him in there. Then you start thinking about how these young guys can help fill out the rest of the rotation, you know, the back end. I but

I don't think the pitching honestly the pitching has not been I thought it would be a huge handicap, but to me the offense and the bullpen's been really bad. Obviously you sign Hillsley and he gets hurt and then you're you know, you lose Keegan Aiken and you you know, now you're you're relying on guys in roles that they've never been in. I mean, I think the league has started to figure out Rico Garcia. I think Andrew Kittridge is okay, but he's not a closer. I think they've already tried the Enye Kano experiment at closer. He's

More of a setup guy. That's been what's killed him. And I really was bummed that they traded Tyler Wells. I know I my my dad loves Tyler Wells. He's been high on him since day one and I was starting to come around on Wellsy and now he's gone.

Alrighty, well, look to the future, Orioles fans. What other choice do we have? Yeah, that's true.

Alright. We are we're about to jump in to excuse our opinions. It is not a ripoff of PTI. PTI is a rip-off of us. We had this idea a long time ago. Yeah, about twenty sixteen we had this idea right around when Harambe died. I got I got an opinion. I got a big opinion here, and and and our buddy Caleb.

Our buddy Caleb, who's a Pats fan, is not gonna like me for saying this.

A reporter and a head coach should not sleep together and make their spouses public cucks in exchange for information.

that a crazy take? That's a bold take. First of all, grade my take. F, Mike Vrabel's an alpha male. I never said Mike Vrabel. I mean, the man in question is clearly a single man. The reporter in question is is clearly a single woman. There is no reason that two consenting adults cannot fornicate on their free time.

Unrelated to work. Could you give me more background on on this and the two people in question? Because I'm uninformed on the matter. one of them was a sports reporter. Okay. And the other was like was the head coach for the New England Patriots. Like that Russilla woman, I know her as Ryan Rossillo? Yeah, Ryan Rossillo. Diana Rossini. I know her. Ryan Rossillo and and Mike Vrabel were sleeping together. Good it's 2026. So Mike Vrabel, I've heard of him. Mike Vrabel heard of

But it couldn't have been him because he's a family man. He would never do such a thing. No, definitely not. Definitely not. Especially when he's focused on winning the Super Bowl. But if he w hypothetically, let's say they were both married. Hypothetically, the right thing to do would be for both of them to lose their job. Not just the woman. Because that would be sexual. I I will disagree. Because if the coach is winning, if the coach is important. If he went like six eleven

Winning cures all. Winning cures every single thing. You could kill a person, but if you're winning, you're all right. Especially if you are winning with the Baltimore Ravens. You can absolutely kill someone in front of a nightclub and then burn your clothes. as long as you're winning Super Bowls. But you know, I'm sure I'm sure the owner of said team would take that into consideration that it's morally indefensible. Despite

Perhaps going to a Super Bowl. Cause that wouldn't happen. The New England Patriots are a stand up organization who have never deflated footballs, spied on opposing teams' practices, had a head coach who's now dating someone who could be his grandson, had an owner go get a h a a happy ending massage, which listen. Who among us who among us Who among us? Who among us?

Has not walked it wanted to walk into a Fort Lauderd it Fort Lauderdale? Yeah. Fort Lauderdale massage parlor. And just get a little relief. Who among us? Well, I'm sure that the I'm sure that the massage parlor he went into very clearly advertised we do not give hand jobs and it took him by surprise because he was there for muscular release. Deep tissue massage, he's a hard working guy, and you know, he fell asleep

'Cause it was such a relaxing massage. Next thing you know is he's waking up getting jerked off. Not as And he was so surprised that he couldn't say anything. Can I stop playing the dumb the dumb guy role now? Am I good on that? No, you gotta give your take. I okay. Okay. So, but I can't, I have to be like completely 'cause this really actually angers me. I'm gonna give my take. August eighth was the Hall of Fame induction ceremony where arguably

The least deserving group of players to ever enter the Hall of Fame, enter the Hall of Fame. And it's strange to say that out of the three, I think Jeff Kent was the most deserving. Because Carlos Beltron has no business being in the Hall of Fame. I'm a long believer that Kenny Lofton was a shoe-in the Hall of Fame. And if you look at their career numbers, they are.

Quite literally, about as close as you can be on the numbers that matter. Carlos Beltran also orchestrated the cheating scandal that allowed the Astros to steal a World Series. But they had immunity. Yeah. They were immune. They had immunity. Isn't it except interesting? Except except Alex Cora was suspended for a year. Except Alex Cora was suspended for a year. And AJ Hench was AJ Hench suspended?

Like a year. It's like a year. Yeah. Yeah. And Carl, they all said, Well, it was Carlos Beltron. We tried to stop it, but you you know, Beltron was dead set on it. So why don't we just burn Beltron at the stake? Why do we let him in the Hall of Fame? He had a 70 career war, which is slightly above what is the accepted number for a f a really solid Hall of Fame case. Didn't get 3,000 hits, didn't get five hundred home runs.

Won three gold gloves, so he's by no means like an elite defender. nine all-star appearances, was only top ten MVP voting one time. his seven-year peak, which a lot of people look at, 44.4 war. Kenny Lofton's seven-year career peak, 43.4 war. 622 stolen bases, six all-star games, four gold gloves, sixty-eight point four career war, three hundred career batting average, twenty four hundred hits. So

If we're just gonna take away the cheating stuff, Carlos Beltron is still a fringy Hall of Famer, like not a first ballot guy. Yet he gets in on one of his later ballots despite the cheating thing. And I've long said that the MLB holds the like player character to the highest regard when it comes to Hall of Fame stuff. Pete Rose can't be the Hall of Fame because he's a piece of shit person.

We kept Kurt Schilling out of the Hall of Fame for being a piece of shit person. We keep the steroid guys out of the out of the Hall of Fame for doing quite literally nothing wrong. Like if you're a steroid guy that got caught after 2005. By the way, Barry Bonds was forty years old when they put the rules in place. Where they said, Okay, these are the official punishments, this is what happens. Before then, it was come on down to the MOB office, pee in a cup for us, and anonymously let us know if you're taking steroids.

So we can get ahead of this thing. But I would argue that what Beltron did is as bad as Pete Rose betting on baseball. Now, granted, Carlos Beltron's not a pedophile, he didn't get arrested for evading taxes. But if we're talking about purely cheating the game of baseball, how can you say that allowing an entire team to cheat at your like on your behalf is not as bad as betting on baseball? Would you disagree?

Gambling is like the cardinal, the cardinal thing. Obviously, like what the Astros did. Like general generalized cheating. If you're an Astros fan and you're just like every like everyone's cheating, like it excuses it, it it just doesn't. I'm sorry, it doesn't excuse it. Just like what the Red Sox did in 2018. They were cheating the entire regular season. The one thing that I think the Red Sox get away with is that they were caught and they stopped.

And they still ran through the 2018 playoffs and had absolutely no problems with with anyone in that playoffs. but the Red Sox still cheated in a regular season and they still should have been punished for that. Just like the Astros should have been cheated. Just like then the Yankees. I thought the Yankees had something too. They accused Around that time. And they accused the 2015 one of the Astros guys said that the 2015 Royals were cheating. I'm sorry you dropped like a a really solid 3 2 game lead.

in the seventh inning and you're upset that the Royals went on to win the World Series. And I think I I do want to clarify this. I think I don't think it's cheating to steal signs from second. If you are not if you are not using technology. If you are if you are on second, if you have a a runner on second and he can see the sign and he's like, hey, you know, they're they're gonna throw fastball. I think that's gamesmanship. I think that's part of the game. It's when you go and you look at the TV

In the clubhouse, and you're like, all right, let's see. I think we can see it. That's where you're because you're not on the field. Like, you're not gonna be able to steal the signs if you don't have a man on second. That's just an advantage. So hide your signs better. Hide your signs from the human eye better. So You can't hide signs from high definition camera, directly linked to the clubhouse. And it it's just a travesty that Carlos Beltran got in the Hall of Fame. If we don't start letting steroid guys in the Hall of Fame now.

because we've decided that character doesn't fucking matter anymore. put Man Ramirez in, put Bonds in, put Sosa, put McGuire, everybody but Pete Rose at this point. Put all the black ball guys in the Hall of Fame except Pete Rose. And that's my that's my take. Pardon it. Okay. I like it. Let us know in the comments what you think. Put Kenny Loft in the Hall of Fame. Huh? Put Kenny Loft in the Hall of Fame right now. Today. All right. Let us know. Let us know.

We'll move on to the next. Okay, last up on the show today is our snake draft. We're bringing these back. We did these a lot in the past, but again, staying with that Baltimore theme. We are going to be drafting all time Orioles. So you get a starting pitcher, a reliever, a catcher, a you know, just regular a fielder, I guess. I don't Cal Caleb, how do I describe that?

'Cause it's not just drafting a fielder, you're also drafting them for their bat. It's just like just say a position player. Just a position player. I don't know why that was exactly what I was looking for. I don't know why I couldn't come up with that. and a designated hitter. Caleb, I'm gonna let you choose your draft position and then Mike, and then I will take the last available spot. I mean I've got a one one. I've got a one one in mine, so I'll take the one.

Think everyone has the one one in mind. No, Mike, what do you want? Obvious. Second or third? I'll go second. All right, I'll take third I'll take the wraparound.

Caleb, you are up first. So with this pick, I'll be taking Robert and Dino. No, I'm just kidding. I'm going Kyle Ripkin. Verbal's binding. Verbal's binding. No, I didn't put my I didn't take my hand off it. no, it's Kyle Ripkin. It's Kyle Ripkin Jr., the second greatest shortstop of all time. Hall of Famer. God knows how many all-star games. Actually, I'll look it up. 19 All-Star games, two MVPs, Hall of Famer. I mean.

There's an argument he's the greatest shortstop of all time. It's there'd be crazy. There's there's no explaining your pick. You don't have to explain that stuff. I gotta add some context, you know. There's like a c no, I'm just saying like there there is no necessary explanation behind him. He is the Iron Man. He When you think Orioles, you think Cal Ripkin Jr. That's all I got. They literally got a game postponed so he could go beat up Kevin Costner. Yep. My favorite story.

One of my favorites. Yeah, it's it's cow. Absolutely.

Anything on Cal, Mike? Yeah, I mean, I was at twenty one thirty, twenty one thirty-one. I mean, probably my greatest baseball memories growing up, September fifth and sixth, nineteen ninety-five. And no, I mean, they just that's they talk about all records will never be broken. Yeah, Cy Young, five hundred eleven wins. You know, Pete Rose, was it forty two fifty six, Nolan Ryan, fifty seven hundred and fourteen strikeouts. Theoretically, those could be broken. They

Very unlikely, but Cal Ripkin for get it. I I don't do you think we'll ever see a player have a thousand games? Matt Olson's at 900. Matt Olson just at 900. Matt Olson. Is it 900 consecutive or 900 games played? Consecutive. Really? He's the long he is the longest active streak. They just talked about it on baseball is dead with him. That's very cool. He's not he's not going though to Cal. He might touch it a thousand. That's all I got for him.

It's it's one of those it's one of those records like Jackie Bradley Jr.'s twenty nine game hit streak. You're never gonna see it again. Who could forget? Who could forget Jackie Bradley Jr.'s twenty no, you're it's never gonna be broken. It's it's DiMaggio. it's Barry Bonds. Matt Olson is did I say he's thirty two. Nah, he's not he's not coming close to even fifteen hundred, I don't think. No, no.

I mean, just to put context, if he had to play, you know, what, seventeen hundred and thirty two more games, right? You know, that would be another ten and a half seasons. Yeah, he'd have to play till he's forty two consecutively every day. I don't I don't see that one happening. Respect to Matt Olson, but Right. Fuck no. Fuck no. All right, Mike. You're up. Well, I gotta I feel like I gotta go pitching.

So I gotta go with Jim Palmer. You know, 500 sorry, six hundred fewer hits allowed than innings pitched in his career. And he was just a workhorse. He led the league in innings pitch four times, won the ERA title twice. Wins used to be more of a thing because pitchers had guts and just went, you know, complete games. Jim Palmer had two hundred and eleven complete games.

Do you know how long it will take MLB, the entire MLB, how many seasons to get 211 complete games? How many have there been this year? Like seven or eight, maybe? I th I feel like I looked. Maybe fit. Let's say it was 20. Let's say it was 20. That Jim Palmer alone in his entire career would have had 10 times more than that. So the workhorse just love Jim Palmer. Love him as an announcer.

Crazy good memory, remembers everything about his career. And yeah. I gotta go I gotta go with Palmer. You know, nineteen year career. Just just great. Never like till his like very last year. Never had a bad year, even a mediocre year. Yeah. I actually had a few stats on Palmer. second in V Poting in seventy three with a two hundred forty ERA.

two time ERA title, four time goal. I mean, it's just like these are like the the boilerplate stats, but it's still just crazy, especially for like that time. Yeah. And he was doing broadcasting for the Orioles too, right? Yeah. Still doing it. I mean, that that doesn't exactly add to this discussion, but I mean he's that probably makes him a little more beloved in Baltimore than he already was. Yeah, he's 80 team. Yeah. I mean, that's like Pedro.

Going like just going on Nesson daily and calling games. Not quite Pedro, but you know, he's brilliant. Hey, he went to he pitched his last game a few months before a couple months before I was born. Beloved wise. Beloved wise. Went to my alma mater, didn't even realize because he was at Arizona State, but also pitched at Towson. Tow he pitched at Towson. Wow. wow. Yep. Went to high school in Scottsdale.

And then s guess he started at ASU and then finished at Towson. Or didn't finish, but went to Towson. I wonder what gets him to Towson. You go from Arizona to Towson. Arizona State to Towson. In what looks like about fifty players all the time that have passed through Towson and gone to the majors. So interesting. man, the mid s mid seventies, Palmer is going for twenty complete games a year. That's

Just unheard of. Yeah. In our in our generation, at least. Current guys, if you're wondering, that are in the majors. I don't know about Bruce Zimmerman. I thought he surfaced somewhere, but Taylor Clark, pitcher for Arizona, and Richie Palacios, from the rays. Richie's got the got the the goggles, you know, the sports goggles column. His brother fell off.

His brother what Josh Palacios his brother Josh Pelosi was played too. Yeah. I think he fell off pretty quick. Yeah.

And we a note here. Derek Hasselhoff. Okay, sorry. from ninety-five to two thousand three. Okay. Alrighty. I'm gonna go I feel like this is like the last of like the lay ups here. Brooks Robinson. Yep. I knew you were going there. Yeah. I mean it's it's a layup. Like you had those are like the three guys in in Baltimore sports history you talk about. I mean

Yeah, I don't even think you can talk about Unitus anymore because he's he's a cult, so like it's a little blasphemy to talk about the Colts up here. but yeah, Brooks Robinson.

Can't go wrong. Well, I'm writing this down. Mike, give me a little bit on Brooks Robinson. probably the greatest defensive player, at least defensive midfield in the history of baseball. Just so graceful. you know, I mean, I think people remember him, obviously. Not that he wasn't a good a good hitter in his career, but he you know, and he was a World Series MVP and all-star game MVP, but he won 16 gold gloves.

And went to eighteen all star games. I mean just beloved, just a beloved guy. I mean, I think we obviously talk about Cal and people do love Palmer, but it's it's one of those things where it's just y you say the name in Baltimore and your heart warms. You just think about Brooks Robinson. Good old number five. Yeah.

Alright, wraparound pick. I'm going designated hitter here. I'm going Harold Baines. Thank you. I think I know who you wanna talk I think I know who you wanna take. but I mean he's a native Marylander, he's from the eastern shore. he I'm looking at the sta at his s sheet here. three hundred eight times in his career. Holy shit.

Rio one across seven seasons in Baltimore. I mean he's got a beer, Steady Eddie. It's a beer here. I don't see any other beers w named after Orioles players here. So Steady Eddie beer, that's enough for me.

Confirm you said Harold Baines. Why am I thinking I'm thinking Eddie Murray? So who is it? Are you going with Baines or Murray? I'm going Baines. I'm going Baines. I'm going Baines. Just for some reason Eddie Murray was on the mind. And I was like, this guy is a beer. And I'm like, that doesn't make any fucking sense. Hold on.

All right, Mike, go. I'm I'm embarrassing myself. 'Cause you say, I mean Eddie Murray, of course. Why would you That was my pitch. That was my pitch. The thing I love about Eddie is that he came back. He came back in ninety six and was a part of that ALCS team that was literally robbed by a twelve year old kid. I was part of Caleb. I fuck Caleb so bad. Yeah. and

I'm just and just Eddie's Orioles numbers alone. He hit five hundred and I I think he hit number five hundred with the Orioles. In fact, yes, he did. He just five hundred. So he had that great like full circle moment coming back. Almost a three hundred hitter, three hundred forty three Orioles home runs over two thousand hits. He was just, yeah, again, just another likable guy. Just a just a likable guy. Like, you know, 'cause if we were sitting here talking about Albert Bell, no disrespect to Albert. I mean

Know that Albert's like a terrible guy or anything, but we're not like, yeah, but he's a he's just a legend in the heart of horse. No, but Eddie Murray, man, he walks on water in Baltimore, I think. He was yeah, loved him, loved him growing up. He was just steady Eddie. Yeah. Started his career as a rookie of the year in seventy seven. You know, he never won an MVP, but he was a runner up twice. Interesting in eighty two and eighty three.

And one year, listen to this. In nineteen eighty-four, my birth year, he had f a four ten on base percentage, a hundred and seven walks, and most importantly, just like Cal Ripkin, he played in every single game. Also had twenty five intentional walks that year.

I made a really bad choice. That was that was a really bad choice. I don't know why you took Harold Baines. He wasn't. I buckled under the pressure and I I was prepping and I I did not prep for DHs. No DH. Notoriously one of the worst Hall of Fame selections of all time. And I was like, God damn, I was like, well, I'm gonna choose between Eddie Murray or Harold Baines, and for some reason I shouldn't I thought you were going Eddie Murray. Well, he's a first baseman.

Mike, was that gonna be your pick regardless? What Eddie Murray? Yeah. Yeah. Okay. So I don't I don't feel as mad about it. So can I can I roll off my pick now? Or are we still going on Eddie? Yeah, go, go, go. Okay, because I've been torn between a DH and a starting pitcher, and I think I'm gonna go with the starting pitcher.

Yeah. Forty seven point seven war with the Orioles, constant just workhorse, two hundred innings a year, multiple gold gloves. I'm going, Mike Busina. Hall of Famer. Hall of Famer, right? Yeah, okay. So Hall of Famer, seven time gold glove. Never won a Cy Young, but he was top five, looks like six times, seven times. did he have five perfect games that were broken up very late?

well he he had at least one with the Yankees in early September two thousand one. September second, two thousand one, Carl Everett, two outs, two strikes. I think Sandy Alamar broke up Mike Messina no hit her in the ninth in ninety seven, ninety eight, somewhere around there.

All right. I'm going Messina. The what? no, that would have been my pick a hundred percent, Messina. Yeah. He was just my favorite. Yeah. I was torn between him and and Palmer's Palmer's two to his one, but I think Messina's the better pick there.

Alright, you get the wraparound, Caleb. I do. I was torn between two players. I didn't even think about that. so yeah, I'll take my DH. I

No, I'm gonna take him for the longevity. Give me Boog Powell. I I was torn between him and another, but another the other DH I had in mind had plenty of time with the national league team. but it I obviously I wasn't alive for this, but it it it seems like Boog Powell was kind of the heart and soul of that the late sixties, early seventies Orioles lineup, big power guy, thirty homers a year for most of the late sixties.

And nineteen sixty-four, thousand OPS, thirty-nine Homers, even hitting two ninety, like MVP in nineteen seventy. He was he was the pure definition of just a a big redneck looking dude that just hit nukes. And that's the kind of vibe I'd like to bring my to my team here.

All right. Mike.

So we're I have to fill out certain positions now, right? Yeah. So you have you have a starting pitcher and a position player. right. I have a first baseman. Yeah. I guess. Well you don't have to fill out every position. You just have a position player. So now you can go DH, you can go with a catcher, you can go with a a reliever. Well, I want see this one's hard because he wasn't he was a six year Oriole, but God I

I can't leave Frank Robinson off the list. That was my other one. Yeah. I mean, the guy was just such an incredible player his whole career, but of course, you know, he he played twenty one years and only six of those with the Orioles. So it's hard to think like, he was you know, you think of him as a Cincinnati Red or anything's where he put up his biggest numbers. But in six years for the Orioles, eight hundred and twenty seven games, he still hit a hundred and seventy nine homers batted and even three hundred was an on base machine, four one on base percentage.

Again, just another just a just a beloved guy, just a guy that, you know, was just an exemplary guy off the field as much as on the field. And of course, he did win an MVP as an Oriol in that incredible 1966 season. You know, he was what he was the fur I guess he was the first guy would have been to win an MVP in both leagues. Because he won with Cincinnati in 61 and just like ridiculous numbers. Like not video game numbers, but

316, 49 homers, 122 RBIs, led the league with a 410 on base percentage, 637 slugging that year, 1047 OPS, and seven sacrifice flies just for good measure. So yeah. Yeah, he he was just awesome. He was awesome. So even though, you know, and he got to be part of a couple of World Series teams, which just made it that much better. He was also World Series MVP.

you know, batting title, gold glove. I ca he just did it all. He's just one of he's really one of the gre I feel like he's one of the greatest Hall of Famers all time that people don't talk about.

Yeah, I feel like you don't hear I mean, even doing my research, I didn't see a single thing about Frank Robinson under like greatest Orioles. Right. He's more of a red Yeah. Right. But I mean you win a World Series, you're an MVP with that you know I figured it would have been mentioned. They would have been like, Yeah, he he was here too. He's pretty damn good here too. Yeah, and I and I'm gonna I'm not picking any of the the old

St. Louis Browns guys either. You know, I mean it's no Sisler. Yeah, no Sisler. Exactly. so that kind of makes it it that takes a couple guys out of the equation that maybe in fairness have the numbers to be on the list, but we don't think of them as Orioles.

looking here because I I think I have to I definitely want to leave like the designated hitter to my last pick because no I already have my DH I'm gonna leave my starter to my last pick. I'm gonna take I'm gonna go with a reliever actually I'll do it

I'm curious who you think I'm thinking of. I'm gonna go with Zach Britton. I mean, one of the the the most dominant closer of his time. sixty consecutive saves between two thousand fifteen and two thousand seventeen, like stretched between those years. in two thousand sixteen, I can't I just like still don't really believe this. point four five four ERA, forty seven of forty seven in saves.

Hundred thirty nine total saves. Career as a full time closer, ninety four percent save conversion percentage, one point three eighty RA with a nine nine whip. I mean, h who who was better in that time? Who has a better science? Rick Forcello, yeah, that's true. Twenty game winner. Twenty game winner, Rick Forcello. But no one will ever not think, at least Orioles fans, about

how he didn't pitch in the wild card game. That was the move, right? Went twelve innings and the best pitcher in or best relief pitcher in baseball that year never never got into the game and he was healthy for all well, as far as we know.

still, I don't care. I mean but incredible, yeah. It it just incredible stretch of baseball. It's the most dominant reliever season we've seen probably in this century. Him right on par, I think, with Eric Gagnier. Yeah.

Yeah. and then my wraparound, I'm going with a catcher. I'm gonna take the nineteen eighty-three World Series MVP Rick Dempsey. most games ever caught for the Baltimore Orioles. I'm only giving playoff statistics. His regular season batting statistics are really not impressive. but in the twenty-five playoff games he played in, three three, three seventy, five fifteen.

With twelve extra base hits and seven RBIs. Oriel's legend, you know, brings him the title in eighty three, so I felt like that was a a home run.

Yeah, and I I need a catcher, right? I have the next pick. Yep. You do need a catcher. I swear to God, if you I Well, I'm a little I mean, because I again I grew up watching this guy and I'm a little biased to Chris Hoyle. So I got it. Yeah. Well he had the ultimate, my favorite He was he was next on my list. So May seventeenth, nineteen ninety six, the they call it the ultimate grand slam. I remember watching that game live. I was almost twelve and

You know, and he was just, again, he was kind of like a a quiet. He was a quiet guy. He but he had a lot of power. He was fun. And it felt like he was just so clutch. It just felt like he had some of those those like kind of like you just said about Dempsey, Alex, that he was just in those big moments on those big teams, he was kind of just that that glue guy. You know, it wasn't always about the numbers so much as it was just being back there, being so consistent.

I mean, you look at his home run numbers from, you know, ninety-two to to ninety-six, it were twenty, twenty-nine, nineteen, nineteen, twenty-five. This was at a time when, you know, I mean, you had Piazza and you had Pudge, but we weren't as used to seeing these like these, you know, big time catchers, big power hitting, you know, forty, fifty homers. So it was kind of a novelty, I think, to have a power hitting catcher at that time.

And Chris Hoyles hit three ten in nineteen ninety three with twenty nine homers. That was his best season. Had a one thousand one OPS. yeah. I I'd l I just love Chris Hoyles. Yeah, I gotta gotta go with him.

Well life to life for Oriel too, by the way. Ten year career. Every single one of his eight hundred and ninety four games was played in Baltimore.

Good for him. All right, Caleb. Yeah, I I had Rick Dempsey's page pulled up, ready to roll off the stats when Alex said him. I had Chris Hoyle's page pulled up when Mike said him. And now I'm torn between two catchers and I

I think I'm gonna have to go with the guy the guy. Do the more recent guy. Yeah, that's where I'm leaning. yeah, I'm gonna go Matt Wheaters. I I guess I kinda have to. The the Orioles catching history isn't as illustrious as I pictured it. I was kinda torn between Wheaters and Gus Triandos, who he was more of a defensive guy, had a couple good offensive seasons, but I mean Wheaters is a two time goal glover, switch hitter.

four-time all-star. He had some 20 homer seasons, had some good four or five war years in in his prime in Baltimore. It was a short-lived prime. He didn't exactly meet the expectations that that were bestowed upon him when he came up. I know he was a big, a big prospect, fifth overall pick. But I'll take a solid switch inning goal glove catcher, Adley Rutschman Light, probably, but

Yeah, I'll go Wheaters and I do have the wraparound too, don't I? And I have to go with a reliever. If I'm not mistaken. I I don't have that wrong, right? I I have to go reliever here. you have yeah, you gotta go reliever. Okay, then I believe I will go with the Orioles all time saves leader. not the tight end. I will be going Greg Olson. He's not a part of the seventh floor clu seventh floor clue. He's not. He does not have any rap songs that I am aware of, but

kinda crazy that this guy is the all time saves leader for the Orioles. I mean I guess saves is kind of a

It's a more of a modern stat compared to the the time that Olson pitched in. But he was the closure, late eighties, early nineties. If you look at his page, it's it's a lot of not a lot. In a time where ERA was like if you had like a three, people were like, All right. No Yeah, he won he won rookie of the year that year in eighty nine.

Consistent 30 save guy in the in the early nineties. There's not a whole lot to pick from. I know there's a a fifty save season in there with a with another option I could have, but I I I think I'll go with the quote unquote longevity. All time Oriel saves leader is my reliever, Greg Olson.

So am I up now? Yeah. You have You have a reliever as well. Yeah, I was gonna go with Greg Olsen too, but I I also like Tippi Martinez because he he had three pickoffs in one inning is what he's of course known for. Is exactly what I wrote down. Yeah, yeah. Well that's that's kinda like his his I mean I wouldn't want to say it's his claim to fame, but obviously that's if if anyone's gonna remember

A reliever from the seventies for something. it's gonna be, you know, something like that. That I don't know if that's ever happened since it was the first or yeah, no, he's the only one to ever do it. he he came in a trade with Rick Dempsey and Scott McGregor with the Yankees. so that was a a great Orioles trade. And and he has the most strikeouts ever by an Oriolie with five eighty five. So had a really, really good career.

and not you know, not that it's the worst thing to be remembered for the pick offs, but should point out that, you know, he pitched in four hundred and ninety-nine games and eleven seasons for the Orioles. And so he was yeah, pretty darn good and was part of a a World Series team. So yeah, I'm I'm good to take Tippi.

Alright, I have

I have a decision. I have a starter, a starting pitcher left. And I'm thinking either Dave McNally or Mike Flanagan. There's a correct one. Mike Flanagan. Mike Flanagan, I'm also taking into account his impact after being an Orioles player. Because he ran the front office for many years and I think yeah, he's the longest tenured Oriole player.

ever if you include like front office work. yeah, I'm going Mike Flanagan. Cy Young winner, eighty three World Series champion, and very big in the front office as well. I mean he's literally pro he is he has been in the organization longer than anyone else ever has. So I would say his stamp is on the organization more than any of these other guys.

So Mike, I would have gotten McNally. What about you?

Sorry, over over Flanagan, you mean? Yeah, I would have gone McNally. I was curious what you thought. Yeah, I I I would probably have gone McNally as well. I loved Mike Flanagan. Really sad story, obviously. But he would and he was a really I really liked him as a a broadcaster, you know. but you know, Scott McGregor had a pretty darn good career too.

For the Orioles played his whole thirteen year career. But yeah, I I would have to go McNally. Cra it'd be again crazy when when the wins were so, you know, had a twenty four win season in nineteen seventy. Was it the seventy season the year they had four guys go twenty wins? yeah. Yeah, that's crazy. Yeah, 'cause they were they were they were probably I mean, w were they going eight innings Well they had three, yeah, they had three guys. I mean McNally and Quayar.

I can't remember the other one. Yeah, and and Palmer had twenty. Yeah, I mean heck, Mike Quare played, you know, had

We lost him for a second. I didn't know if that was me or if he cut out. No, I think that's him. All right. We're gonna wrap things up right there. we'll have we'll probably have voting on the teams on our website at chaoticallyintolerant.com.
