0:00

All right, we're gonna try this a third time.

0:03

Welcome back episode 163 of Chaotically Intolerant.

0:07

Today we are gonna be covering the NFL schedule release.

0:10

It's gonna be a quick episode, probably about 30 minutes, a real compact episode.

0:14

It's a busy week.

0:15

This is gonna be the final episode before the 2024 season of the Chaotically

0:20

Intolerant Table Tennis League.

0:22

We're going to be taking a break, about a six week break.

0:26

We're gonna be back on June 26th.

0:28

So how things are gonna go now, it's gonna be Wednesday episode releases.

0:33

Just because I found that the two times a week, it's just a little too much content.

0:38

So just going to once a week is pretty good.

0:41

And I wanna be able to divert or to put all of my time onto the Table Tennis

0:46

League until that ends on the 26th or on the 23rd, I'm sorry, June 23rd.

0:52

So again, make sure to like, comment, subscribe.

0:55

This will be the final week or episode for the next six weeks and let's go.

Analyzing the NFL Schedule Release

1:22

All right.

1:23

So, the NFL has done their thing that they usually do all every year.

1:28

They make a whole spectacle out of something that could just be a press

1:32

release.

1:34

but the schedule is out.

1:35

The NFL has released the entire 2024 slate and I'm already seeing too much prime time

1:43

jets in my opinion.

1:45

I'm seeing way too much prime time jets.

1:47

We have two Sunday night football games, with the jets, which

1:51

I mean, I don't ever really want to see the Jets in any Sunday night and any prime

1:56

time game until they actually prove that they're going to win some important

2:00

football games.

2:01

What are you thinking, Mike?

2:03

Well, I'm not a fan of Wednesday football, even if it's Christmas.

2:06

I'm not a fan of seeing the Jets.

2:09

I'm glad they put the Bears in a week two prime time game.

2:12

I thought that was a nice touch against Houston.

2:14

So Caleb Williams versus CJ Stroud should be fun.

2:19

You're right.

2:20

Total spectacle.

2:21

You know, just a few years ago, there would not have been any leaks of any kind.

2:25

When the teased any games, it's just, you're right, press release schedules out

2:30

and that's that.

2:32

Why the NFL has to be in the news every day, don't they?

2:36

they do.

2:37

They absolutely love it.

2:38

I mean, the draft, you know, the draft used to be two days and now it's four.

2:43

And it's like, what was it?

2:45

200 ,000 people were at the draft this year or something insane like that.

2:49

I mean, they gotta make sure they make their, they hit their news quota, I guess.

2:55

I think the Jets have three prime time games, maybe four.

2:57

Let me look up the Thursday night football schedule.

3:00

Yeah, they play the Patriots on a Thursday night in like week three, I think.

3:05

So yeah, I mean, we're getting there.

3:09

Phil of Aaron Rodgers and the, well, we don't even know if it'll be Aaron Rodgers.

3:12

Will he make it to week three?

3:16

They have a week three matchup against the Patriots.

3:19

They have a week four matchup against the Dallas Cowboys.

3:23

They have a week nine matchup against the Houston Texans, all on Thursday Night

3:27

Football, which hilariously enough, Thursday Night Football is the one, it's

3:33

like the worst of the three big primetime slates.

3:37

So the fact that they get to do that is hilarious.

3:39

They don't play the Cowboys.

3:42

I think that was the Giants week four, play the Cowboys.

3:46

Maybe CBS got that wrong because I'm seeing Jets Cowboys week for September.

3:53

Yeah, no, that's wrong.

3:55

I know that NFL .com had the Dallas Cleveland game on CBS and they just had a

4:01

release last night that that it's Brady's first Fox game.

4:07

Yeah, that is a big deal, of course.

4:09

I mean, I did watch the entire roast as well of Tom Brady.

4:14

I'm going to be honest, it was horrible.

4:17

Like, there were funny parts, obviously.

4:20

Like, there were a lot of funny parts.

4:22

But a three -hour runtime for a roast is way too long.

4:27

It is way too...

4:28

I mean, it needs to be a quick 90 minutes.

4:30

Maybe, maybe like 110.

4:33

But that's it.

4:34

You can't have...

4:35

These guys are...

4:36

and they're all kind of joking around.

4:38

There's a lot of dead air too.

4:39

So it was honestly quite a hard watch, but I'm interested to see how Brady's going to

4:44

do in the booth.

4:46

Yeah.

4:47

I mean, look, Troy Aikman has been on the air for over 20 years, despite me thinking

4:52

he's kind of a doofus.

4:53

So I'm sure if he can do it with all his concussions, I'm sure Brady will be just

4:58

fine.

5:00

Yeah, the one I've heard some people point out, they point out the Joe Montana

5:07

experiment when Joe Montana tried his hand in the booth and apparently it did not go

5:12

that well.

5:13

People really did not like Joe Montana, he was really not good.

5:18

So, curious about that.

5:19

Also, I'm looking at the preseason schedule on ESPN at least, maybe they're

5:24

just fucking this up.

5:26

I'm only seeing, the Colts have one preseason game this year.

5:31

and they're missing a lot of games for the preseason schedule so that's are they

5:35

taking away preseason games now no i'd just think yes pianists in overload right

5:45

It could be.

5:47

It absolutely could be.

5:50

But I guess let's let's start out.

5:52

So week one.

5:54

Let's go to week one if I can get over a week one.

5:57

Here we go.

5:58

So Baltimore is kicking off with Kansas City.

6:01

So.

6:04

You can take it out.

6:05

It's fine.

6:06

Baltimore kicking off with Kansas City.

6:09

I think this is a game that's a lot more important to Baltimore than Kansas City,

6:12

and I think you would agree.

6:14

I mean, I'm surprised that they went right off the bat championship game rematch.

6:21

I remember Ron Rivera complaining it was too soon when Carolina had to play Denver

6:26

on the opening Thursday night game after the Super Bowl.

6:29

Maybe that's how the Ravens feel.

6:31

Their last game last year was a loss to the Chiefs and then their first game this

6:35

year could be a loss to the Chiefs.

6:37

And you just feel like if they lose that game, they got 16 more games just to think

6:42

about how they still haven't beaten the Chiefs.

6:44

Like that's a lot of pressure right off the bat.

6:46

I really, for the life of me, thought they were going to save that game for later in

6:49

the year and go with Houston.

6:51

Cause you know, you still have a playoff team from a year ago, CJ Stroud against

6:54

Mahomes, who'd been a great potential shootout.

6:57

So I was a little surprised.

6:59

and disappointed as a Ravens fan that that's how the season has to start three

7:03

days earlier than everyone else with a lot of added pressure.

7:07

Yeah.

7:08

And then so I'm looking through I'm just looking through week one here.

7:12

Green Bay, Philly in Brazil game the Friday Brazil game least favorite game I

7:19

think of all time already.

7:20

I hate this game.

7:22

I hate it too.

7:23

I hate a lot of things the NFL has done in the last.

7:27

18, 19 years since Skedell took over.

7:30

I mean, with the new TV deal, it was a lot simpler.

7:33

It's back when Tagliabue was running the show.

7:38

But, you know, Green Bay is not, I don't know if Green Bay, they were like the last

7:44

team that had played a London game up until a few years ago.

7:48

It was like, for some reason, they were the last franchise and now they're the

7:51

first team, one of the first teams to play a Brazil game.

7:54

So, yeah.

7:57

let's, I guess let's go over the international games first, so, Your

8:02

favorite.

8:02

The...

8:04

Huh?

8:05

Your favorite, the international games.

8:08

yeah.

8:08

They, they released them early today, of course, because that's what Adam Schefter

8:14

loves to do.

8:16

Panthers and Giants, November 10th in Munich.

8:21

what did Germany do to deserve this?

8:24

Besides the last 120 years of history of Germany being the bad guys, are we still

8:32

punishing them for all that stuff back in the mid to early 1900s?

8:38

Yeah, apparently.

8:40

They got the Colts and the Patriots last year, the 10 to 6 game.

8:44

Yeah.

8:45

They really do not like Germany.

8:47

The NFL is doing their best to hope that Germany will hate the NFL and say, never

8:54

come back.

8:54

because they are sending them some of the worst games possible.

8:57

This is crazy.

8:59

New England and Jacksonville, a rematch of that famous 2017 AFC title game in London,

9:06

England.

9:07

Again, a real stinker, just a real stinker that they put up.

9:20

I lost you there for a second.

9:24

A real stinker, Patriots and Jags.

9:28

Yeah, right, right.

9:30

Yeah, that's too bad.

9:32

Yeah.

9:32

Jaguars, Bears, a little better.

9:34

You have Caleb Williams, kind of mid -season, you know, October, early mid

9:40

-season.

9:40

And again, the Jags are in London two weeks in a row, which is like normal.

9:47

Again, I'm curious about how the Bears are going to match up.

9:50

I'm curious about Caleb Williams.

9:51

I'm always going to be curious about Caleb Williams this year.

9:54

So yeah, I guess they just don't try.

9:59

They really don't put in.

10:00

I think that's part of why I hate the London games.

10:03

It's because they don't put in somewhat of an effort.

10:05

Like don't don't put your great games there.

10:08

Of course, like that's that would be stupid to put your great NFL games there,

10:11

but at least put like a middle of the road game, you know, something.

10:17

Maybe put a divisional game there, like between two teams that are probably

10:20

hovering around the same.

10:22

I mean, why are we putting Jacksonville in Chicago, New England in Jacksonville, and

10:28

New York in Carolina?

10:30

I mean, those teams just don't even mix.

10:32

There's no mixing.

10:34

Those teams seem weird when they play each other.

10:38

Right, yeah, I mean, they, I don't, do they do it on a rotational basis or do

10:42

they just say who was crappy the year before?

10:45

Let's just put them out there.

10:46

I think there's some sort of rotational basis based on who has been there

10:51

recently.

10:52

So if I don't think they would be putting a team like the Colts over there, but they

10:58

are putting the Pats.

10:59

So I'm really not sure how they do it, but whatever they're doing is probably not

11:05

right.

11:06

The same thing, Jets and the Vikings, another one of those weird matchups that

11:10

you feel like you never see.

11:11

The colors just don't really mix all that much.

11:15

The names don't really mix, nothing.

11:17

And then finally Green Bay and Philly, which is in Brazil.

11:20

We just talked about that, but those teams at least mix.

11:23

There is something there, little, little juice there.

11:26

So I don't mind that.

11:30

Let's see, just give me your, I guess give me your favorite game so far that you've

11:35

been thinking about.

11:36

That's non -Ravens.

11:38

In week one or in general?

11:43

Just in general.

11:46

I am intrigued in week one to see the Rams and the Lions instant rematch Stafford

11:53

back in Detroit again week one.

11:55

It's kind of like the Lions, you know, was last season a fluke.

12:01

Are they for real?

12:02

They just gave golf a big extension, right?

12:04

Yeah, they did.

12:05

They did, yeah.

12:06

And I think that'll be like a good test.

12:10

And then the Lions play the Niners.

12:12

I want to say it's like the second to last week of the year.

12:14

Maybe it might be the last Monday night game.

12:17

That was a spot where the Niners got hammered last year by the Ravens.

12:22

It was the final.

12:23

I think it was the final or second to last Monday night game of the year.

12:26

And they are the second to last Monday night game.

12:30

Yeah, that's a big deal.

12:32

I think there was one more.

12:33

I think there was one more Monday night game after last year's Ravens hammering

12:38

because they played on Christmas day.

12:39

Christmas night.

12:41

So I think there was one more after that.

12:43

Yeah, I think you're right.

12:45

And then Detroit played Dallas.

12:46

And I don't know if that was like the de facto Monday night game because it was a

12:49

Saturday, but New Year's or something.

12:51

Anyway, I'm curious to see if the Lions can get their revenge.

12:56

Chiefs Niners, they play again.

12:58

They play each other now.

13:00

Week seven or eight in San Francisco as a Fox game.

13:05

Those are the ones that really stood out.

13:08

Yeah.

13:09

Dallas week 17 is going to be against Philly on Monday.

13:15

I think it's on prime time.

13:16

I don't know if it's on Monday night or what is the prime time schedule here.

13:24

I just need to look up.

13:24

I wonder if they'll just give me a prime time schedule.

13:34

Here we go, okay.

13:35

But it is gonna be week 17.

13:37

That might decide the division right there.

13:39

That might be a, that's definitely gonna be a pivotal game because we know the

13:44

Cowboys are always gonna be involved in the NFC East, I think.

13:47

I think that's a fair assumption.

13:51

Yeah, I think so.

13:53

I think, smart of the league not to put their best division games or would be

13:59

smart in week 18.

14:00

I hate the old division last week.

14:02

I used to get excited when the schedule came out just to see what the random

14:06

matchups were the last week of the season.

14:08

Cause you used to get some interesting ones that make for some good drama.

14:13

It was a little bit of a lot of a roll the dice.

14:15

And I hate the idea of divisional games in week 18 being meaningless because if you

14:20

have.

14:21

If you do schedule a Cowboys -Eagles game, let's say, and then one of those teams is

14:25

clinched, you've wasted as the league, you've wasted a Cowboys -Eagles game.

14:30

So if you're gonna do the whole division thing, at least don't put your best

14:35

matchups, or what you think will be the best matchups, in week 18.

14:40

Yeah.

14:42

I'm sorry, I'm just trying to get this...

14:47

Get a lot of this out.

14:48

I think I think builds a dolphin is gonna be really fun one week too, especially,

14:52

you know, I think you're gonna get more of a like neutral field, but the dolphins are

14:58

that means the dolphins are gonna have to go to Buffalo late in the year, which I

15:03

think I think I can already tell you what's gonna happen then.

15:08

Yeah, hopefully the, you know, the field isn't like a rock and Tiger Valoa hits his

15:14

head or something.

15:15

But yeah, I know.

15:18

And Buffalo, they play the Chiefs again and it's late in the year and it's in

15:23

Buffalo.

15:24

That's another big deal.

15:25

You know, another one of those games where if Buffalo loses, I mean, they'd beaten

15:29

the Chiefs.

15:30

They seem to beat them every year in the regular season in Kansas City, no less.

15:33

And it doesn't end up mattering.

15:37

Yeah, they're they're in Buffalo.

15:39

1117 they're in Buffalo.

15:43

It's a 425 game, which why why don't they ever give them the I feel like they don't

15:49

give them a prime time spot like that.

15:51

That has to be the prime time spot.

15:55

Yeah, I mean.

15:59

But they played the CBS late window too.

16:04

Who else?

16:05

I mean, you lo Jets is the sunday night of what Kansas City or B you have Houston and

16:18

Dallas be a pretty good game.

16:20

U So I feel like you defin I personally think those, t be Sunday night football.

16:27

the biggest game of the w football.

16:32

I think just NBC, the music, all of it.

16:35

It breeds a really big environment.

16:39

It's the bright lights, you know, especially it's a full day of football,

16:42

right?

16:43

You're done watching the full day, but you still have the Sunday night game.

16:46

You want a great game.

16:47

And I mean, listen, I'm a Colts fan, but I don't think anyone wants to see Colts jets

16:53

on prime time.

16:54

They just don't.

16:56

Aaron Rodgers will have torn his other Achilles by then.

16:59

Anthony Richardson will probably have been run into the ground by the coaching staff.

17:02

So it would be Joe Flacco and whoever is the backup in New York.

17:07

I don't even know who the backup in New York is.

17:10

I think they signed Tyrod Taylor.

17:12

Tyrod Taylor and Joe Flacco.

17:15

Elite quarterback matchup there.

17:19

Let's see here.

17:21

Let me look.

17:26

Philly and the Giants.

17:28

I think that's going to be one to watch as well, that season series.

17:31

Obviously, Saquon.

17:32

going to Philly his return to New York is going to be a big deal.

17:37

I don't think there's really going to be much interesting to watch about that

17:41

season series but hey it's it's Philly in New York they're going to find a way to

17:46

fight I think that the Giants take one from Philly last year.

17:51

Yeah the last game of the season actually they did they kick the shit out of them

17:56

right I can remember.

17:58

Yeah.

18:01

Let's see.

18:08

When does Chicago play Green Bay?

18:10

That's gonna be an interesting one because obviously we, they don't beat them that

18:15

often to say the least.

18:24

Chicago, Houston, week two, week three.

18:29

Chicago rematch with the Colts as well in the Super Bowl.

18:33

so they have two late matchups.

18:35

Packers come to Chicago, also 11 -17.

18:38

Another one you could have put on Sunday Night Football over Colts jets.

18:42

Or they're going to Green Bay on January 5th as well.

18:48

So yeah, again, I mean, we can talk all NFL schedule we can.

18:56

I mean, I don't know if there's much to talk about here.

19:00

I guess if we want, we can dive in a little bit into baseball, talk a little

19:04

baseball, and then we'll jump off probably in about seven or eight minutes here.

19:08

You want to do that?

19:09

Sure.

19:10

All right.

19:11

So.

19:13

The Boston Red Sox can't beat the race.

19:16

First off, this Red Sox team should not be losing to the race.

19:19

I just, I really don't think so.

19:22

Tanner Hauck also got snubbed in Cy Young rankings this week.

19:26

So I think they released like the first Cy Young rankings and he was not top five.

19:31

Cutter Crawford was, he was number five, which was nice.

19:33

But still, Tanner Hauck did get snubbed there, but the Red Sox are just kind of, I

19:39

don't know.

19:39

This is a frustrating team because...

19:41

You see them and you think they need to go out and get someone.

19:44

I think the jazz Chisholm is, is on the, going to be on the block.

19:48

and then Justin Turner is actually someone they could go out and get, get a little

19:51

extra help, especially with cast is gone, but they're, they're not going to do

19:56

anything that we just know they're going to, they're going to hang around at 500

20:00

and the ownership is going to say, Hey, maybe, maybe we'll go on a run in August

20:04

and September and get lucky.

20:06

But who could see that happening?

20:08

I mean, realistically, who could see that happening?

20:12

Yeah, I mean, they were so idle in the off season when it was, you know, it was like

20:17

an opportunity to fix their rotation and they didn't do that.

20:23

And then these guys have overperformed, but it just, yeah, it feels like they're,

20:28

they're just teetering the whole year.

20:29

They're just going to be a middling team and that's not going to cut it in that

20:34

division.

20:34

Yeah.

20:35

Yeah.

20:36

Now this, so I will say for the last like,

20:41

three bad years the Red Sox have had.

20:44

We have said, if the Red Sox were in the central, they would be in third place.

20:49

They would be fighting for a playoff spot right now.

20:51

If they were in the central, if they're in the West.

20:53

Well, now I'm going to be honest, it's a little more equal.

20:58

I think this Rays team and this Jays team is, they are seriously underperforming.

21:03

I think the Rays a little less, but the Jays especially, they're underperforming

21:06

expectations.

21:08

So this is kind of your moment.

21:10

where you have to say, okay, like you have to go out and take advantage of when these

21:16

teams are down and just doesn't really feel like they're doing that.

21:19

And you have Baltimore and New York, they're battling it out.

21:22

They're gonna battle it out down the stretch.

21:25

So you're right there.

21:26

You've got to fight for that like last wild card spot, basically.

21:32

Right.

21:32

I mean, the Orioles and Yankees clearly are kind of above what the Red Sox are.

21:37

I mean, the American League is a little more open than it's been in previous

21:40

years.

21:41

The Astros and the Rangers have had slower starts this year.

21:46

You know, the Central has been surprisingly good, but there's no reason

21:49

the Red Sox couldn't add.

21:52

If they added an impact player or two, I do believe that they could legitimately

21:56

compete at least for a wild card spot.

21:58

And you know, look, we saw last year, we've seen the last couple of years, the

22:02

You know the Diamondbacks were the five seed last year I think and the Phillies

22:06

were the sixth seed the year before so this expanded postseason.

22:09

You just have to get in to have a chance.

22:12

It's I think you can really equate it more to the NHL I think than anything the NHL

22:18

that's you see upsets all the time big upsets and if you just get in the dance

22:23

right like that's the that's the goal and the NBA you know you have the NBA playoffs

Conclusion and Announcement of Upcoming Break

22:27

going on right now like it's more often than not.

22:31

the cream is rising to the top.

22:32

Like those one, two and three are going to the finals.

22:36

You're not seeing a low seed go to the finals.

22:41

Paul Skeens makes his debut.

22:42

Yeah.

22:43

Why don't electric debut?

22:45

Yeah.

22:46

It was what a weird game.

22:48

I mean, that was the game that featured what like six straight run scoring walks

22:53

or something or like six in seven batters.

22:56

And there was a rain delay.

22:57

Final score was 10 to nine, but Skeens look good.

23:00

I mean, his arm, yeah, obviously, you know what the arm is, question of whether he

23:05

can harness it, but good test against pretty good Cubs team.

23:09

He also loves chicken Alfredo, by the way, hilarious.

23:13

That's his pre -start routine is to eat a big thing of chicken Alfredo.

23:19

And if you've ever seen Bull Durham, when you're not in the show, they're going to

23:26

call you sloppy, they're going to call you gross, but when you're in the show and

23:29

you're doing it...

23:30

They're going to call you eccentric, eccentric basically.

23:35

So I don't know what they're calling it right now.

23:37

I think it's a little more eccentric.

23:39

Chicken Operator is awesome.

23:41

I love Chicken Operator.

23:44

Well, and the Pirates, they need something to really, I mean, they got off to a

23:47

really nice start a couple of weeks into the season and that kind of back to being

23:51

what they've frankly been.

23:54

And you just, I mean, what, look, they're a small market team.

23:57

So that goes without saying, but what's their plan?

23:59

And they got skeins and that's great, but how are they really going to compete?

24:03

And they either, cause they're not in like a full blown rebuild either.

24:07

And they're kind of in this weird middling state.

24:10

So like you have, but there's guys there, you know, that's the thing.

24:14

Like there's guys on that roster.

24:17

Like you have O 'Neill Cruz who, you know, you can debate whether he can stay healthy

24:21

or not.

24:23

but like there's some, there's like pieces to place there.

24:28

And it's just, are they willing to go out and do more?

24:32

I think is the question, which their history, no, they're not.

24:38

Well, you thought maybe that they would trade Brian Reynolds last year, ended up

24:41

giving him an extension, which was kind of surprising.

24:45

And, you know, they brought back Andrew McCutcheon, which is nice.

24:47

And he did it at home today, but like they, I don't know.

24:52

I kind of just felt like they'd be farther along at this point, given where they've

24:56

been.

24:57

But, no, look, you have it, you have a great ACE to build around.

25:01

They were able to get how many years they get off Garrett Cole legitimately, like

25:06

four or five years before he.

25:08

They sent them off to Houston, I think.

25:11

So, is that what it's gonna be for Skeens?

25:13

Four or five good seasons and then ship them off to a big market team?

25:17

Yeah, and the Astros are trying to climb out of the cellar right now.

25:23

I mean, it seems like maybe the Angels are just really pining hard for the last spot

25:29

in the West.

25:30

The Athletics just hanging around.

25:32

I love just like our weekly Athletics update, hanging around.

25:37

So,

25:38

I think that's where we're going to wrap up.

25:40

There's not really much to talk about.

25:42

Again, if you did not hear me at the beginning, we will not be doing shows for

25:47
