Welcome back, episode two thirty-nine of Chaotically Intolerant. We have the top Maryland-born athletes draft. we have maybe a little bit of Tariq Scuble and his coffee maker. and very scammed. Yeah, and Caleb talks more shit about Blaise Alexander. I'm just kidding.
make sure to check us out at chaoticallyintolerant.com. Go check out John at Springhill Sportscards.com and let's go. No, not dot com. TikTok. TikTok. And let's go.
Alright, we're gonna talk a little bit of baseball. We got a lot going on, Caleb. we have a major wild card race going on, but I don't even want to talk about that. if you were to leave a team in the middle of the season and you had purchased an espresso maker and that was like the rally cry for that team, would you br would you take the espresso maker back?
Do they have espresso makers in LA? I think that's the bigger question. Do do they exist in LA? I'm sure they thrive in LA, but I mean if I'm about to sign a contract for forty million plus a year, I'm probably not worried about the the coffee maker.
I might work.
He's roughly fi twenty to thirty five million is what the Times of India says.
I don't know. If I'm if I'm going to a team that's worth two, three times what my old team's worth, I'm I'm I might leave them the coffee maker just as a as a thank you. Now it's a very nice coffee maker. An incredibly nice coffee maker, apparently. like top of the line espresso machine. You're still you're still taking it back?
Not if my new teammates are Shohei Otani, Freddie Freeman, and Mookie Betts. I don't know. That's just me. I might I might leave it for the Tigers who probably aren't bringing in a whole lot of revenue. Now I'm trying to think about the process of of the coffee maker. I think if you I think the best possible solution, if he really wants a coffee maker, you leave it till the end of the season. I think that's perfectly fair. And then say, all right.
Can I have my coffee maker? The season's over. We're good. It's like two months. Two months left. If you take it in the middle of the year, then that becomes a story. If you take it at the end of the year, nobody says a word. Yeah, like you just like he sneaks in there like at like five o'clock when everyone like all the lockers are packed away, like it's all empty in there. He just sneaks in there, takes a flight over to Detroit real quick, grabs it, and is like, All right, I'm on to the divisional round now. Like I'm, you know.
I he's he's got nothing else to worry about besides baseball at that point. He can go get his coffee maker after the season. I don't know. But kind of insane. I think I what I think happened is the Dodgers sent people over to just get all his shit. And hit either his wife or he provided just a list of like, yeah, these are all the things that I own. And they just grabbed it without thinking.
And he never thought to say, you know what, just let him keep the coffee maker. I think that's the most reasonable explanation. But I like to think that as he's walking out of the Tiger locker room the day he's traded, he's like, shit, forgot my coffee maker. Gotta go back. Unplugs it real loud. I I g I imagine he's like rustling back there. He's like, shit, god damn it, like I damn it.
And then finally trying to get out of here, but this this thing's just not moving. This copymaker just like does not want to move at all. Like what I I just don't know what's happening. Can hey hey what Cody Clements? Does he play there still? I don't even I don't pay attention to the fucking tigers right now. Who gives a fuck about that? Torkelson who said something. Hey Spencer Torkelson, can you give me a hand with this coffee maker? I just need you to like move this shelf a little bit for me. I don't know.
You have to believe it it maybe it's him or maybe his wife, I don't know what his living situation is, but you gotta think he's bringing that back to his own personal abode. Cause I'm sure he knows the the team he's going to, and I'm sure he knows they probably already have a coffee maker because they can afford it. The worst possible thing he could have done is bring it to LA. If I find out if there's like a if there's like footage inside and you see like
To Rick Scoobel's coffee maker, like a label on the coffee maker, and you're like, that's that's the one in Detroit? There that's bad juju. That's gotta be bad juju. Yeah, there's no way that like Yamamoto or Atani don't already have like a thick, like state-of-the-art Japanese coffee maker or something in there. I think this is what he's. I don't know. But the on.
The Tigers need it more than you do. He's gonna go make like three hundred million dollars with with the the signing of a pen. He'll be fine.
And I was talking coffee. the Angels are free. Congratulations to Angels fans. the day has finally come, that day that they have all been dreaming of for 15 years, 20 years? We want to say 20. About 20, because they were in they were in the World Series in 02, so probably about 20 years.
Stan Kronke has purchased your team. You are now a part of the the Los Angeles Angels or sorry, Los Angeles Rams family. get ready to be relocated. I guarantee you they're relocated. Who the fuck wants to play in Anaheim?
I've never heard of anything going on in Anaheim except for the Angels. I don't know. It it seems like an interesting topic just because you got you got a couple LA teams in football, you got a couple LA teams in basketball. I I I like to think they wanna keep two LA teams in baseball, even though they're not technically LA. I know, I'm not a big California geography guy, but I'm I'm more of kind of just focused on
on Cronky buying the team as a whole, not exactly relocation. More just it's a it's a fresh start for the Angels. I think with that kind of market, you might want to stay there 'cause you can you can profit plenty off of being a good team in LA, whether you're actually in LA or not. you saw
I don't know. Art Artie was able to spend money. He went and got Josh Hamilton, Anthony Rendone, CJ Wilson, a bunch of big name free agents. They didn't work out. But I think if you get a guy like Cronkey who knows the business of sports management, he can clear house, which is what I think he's gonna do. I think he's gonna just clear house, get rid of almost everybody in the in the front office, and just go.
God, fuck. I just fucking blank for a second. You need to copy that. I'll I'll let you get it back. Oldest stadiums in baseball. This is very related to the Angels. Fenway Park. Wrigley Field. What's third? Is it the Angels? No. Nah. Dodger? Yes. Dodger Stadium. What's fourth?
That be the Angels? No, they Yes, it's the Angels. Is it the Angels? The Angels have the fourth oldest stadium in baseball. And I'm looking at the list that they have here. Fenway Park, Wrigley, and Dodger Stadium are all incredibly iconic venues that are just gorgeous. They're gorgeous. Like Fenway Park has its quirks because it's like old as shit. But I mean it you can't tell me that's not like one of the perfect venues for baseball. It is one of the most baseball type venues.
My opinion. It's gritty, it's old, it's dusty, it's tiny in there, but that just feels baseball. Wrigley Field, old as shit again. Dodger Stadium, gorgeous. You got the like they have the seats colored so it's like the sunset. Or is it the sunset or the ocean? I always forget. I think the seats are blue. No, I thought like they did like the layer like they layered the bowl. The seats. I have no idea.
Stadium seats seat colors.
Yeah, represents the natural landscape of Southern California. So it goes like a beige sand color, orange, blue. So I think if you're standing if you're standing on I don't know how that would make sense. Whatever. It's a gorgeous looking stadium. It looks very California. clearly we're talking stadiums is a is another good segment we're gonna have repetitively.
But the Angels, it's time to get them a new stadium. Like, is there anything besides the big A outside of the Angels Stadium? Is there anything interesting? I don't know. I I like the little landscape and rocks and center. The rocks that is nice out there. But their right field wall is a little weird. Like they got the odd little like wall behind a wall thing, short wall on right field. I don't know. I I I wouldn't mind them getting a new stadium. Maybe
Somewhere closer to downtown LA so they can kind of be more of a big city team rather than like outside of the actual city. Yeah. Or or just go back to the Anaheim Angels. If they do that, I have a completely different view of the team. I don't like the Los Angeles Angels, but we play in Anaheim. I like if you do Anaheim Angels, I think I'm or Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
I think it's gotta be Anaheim Angels. I mean, if you speak Spanish, the Los Angeles Angels is pretty redundant. The Angels Angels. Yeah, it does. It makes no sense. But it's kinda like how Art Moreno ran the team.
Fuck, I'm blanking again.
twice that I've had something to say and I just compl my mind just fucking completely went out. next stadium. Talkin' stadiums. The next stadium on the list of of all the stadiums, who do you think?
Any right? No. Not the pirates.
Tell me. Kaufman Stadium.
Kansas City Royals.
Poor John. I think they're knocking that down. Are they building a new one? I don't know. They just mess with the walls for it. So it might it might be up there for a little bit. Yeah, well, their offense is really bad. They needed the help. I like Kaufman. I like Kaufman. It's a nice stadium, but they needed the help. They had to shrink the, you know, make it small. Bobby Whit was hitting too many triples in that 430-foot right center field gap.
All right. You had on your list of topics MVPCA? Yes, I did. Has PCA ran away with the MVP? It's locked up. I think it especially with Otani's pitching schedule, his bulletin schedule getting pushed back farther and farther. It feels like it's every day we get an update where it's like, he won't throw his bulletin today, it'll be this. He won't start today, it'll be another couple of weeks.
But I mean, war isn't the end all be all of stats, but PCA has a 8.3 war, according to baseball reference, with twenty twenty something games to go, twenty-three games to go. he's already reached thirty thirty. He's going to be knocking on the door of 4040 by the time the season ends. He's leading the league in slugging OPS, OPS plus, total bases. He's going to win.
Probably the platinum glove because if you look at his defensive metrics, they are far and away better than everyone else except for maybe Andy Paes, who's been great defensively, but not even close to what PCA is. and PCA's gonna end up close to forty doubles, probably ten triples, forty homers, hundred RBIs. It's kinda hard to not make that your MVP unless Shohei has another fifty-fifty season, which
obviously he's not on pace for. And Shohei's been great on the mound, but hasn't been pitching for the last what, month and a half, two months almost. So I I think it is locked up that PCA has done insane things for the Cubs. Like they've been hot and cold, but PCA's been consistent for them, constantly just mashing. I mean, the other what, a couple of days ago, he had five home runs in in forty eight hours. Like he's ridiculous and
should run away with the MVP. Yeah, Cubs struggling lately. they they've lost series to the Cardinals and they took two of three from the White Sox, lost series to the Mariners, Diamondbacks, Reds, and they are playing the rubber match tonight when we're recording against the Brewers. so yeah, very hot but again I I think I think baseball is like one of those sports. You just can't judge.
You can't judge the MVP based on the team's performance in baseball. No, I mean it's but if you look at the Cubs this year, I I don't know if they're in a playoff slot without PCA. I mean, their pitching staff combined war is the worst in the league. They have the by far the worst bullpen in the league, especially the last couple weeks. If you watch any Cubs game, you've seen their bullpen is just blowing games left and right. It's horrible.
but I don't I don't think they're in this spot without PCA. He's I you've seen time and time again that he has won games by himself for the Cubs, whether it be with his defense or hitting two or three home runs in a game. Like he's he's a freak. He's the best play he's the best overall player in baseball right now. And I don't know if that's a hot take or not, but I'm I'll say it. He's gonna end up probably close to ten more this year.
And the American League who's winning the MVP.
A tough one. I haven't dug too deep into the stats, but I it's hard for me to say that if Jordan Alvarez wins the triple crown, that you can't give him the MVP. I I don't I don't know if there's a pitcher where you can really go that route with. I mean, Schlitler's been insane, but I I don't think he's MVP worthy. Bobby Witt is probably the the best infield defender in the league, but
Don't say anything nice about the Royals. We can't give John any ammo. I mean Bobby Witt's the only good player on the Royals. We can't give Johnmy we can't hit give him any ammo. Can't say anything good about Bobby Witt. I don't I don't know if there's I mean that that's all he has going for him. I it it's probably gonna have to be your Don. I mean the the MVP race in the AL is kind of just weak. Just the AL in general is just so weak.
I wish there was someone on the Red Sox that could contend with it, but it's either Jordon or Wit, and I I don't I don't see a world where it's not Jordon at this point unless somebody just goes God mode for the last month. Even if he doesn't play the field. Yeah, I mean, I don't see why not. He's been by far the best hitter in baseball, and probably the only reason the Astros will make the playoffs this year. All right.
even at 70 and 69 at this point in the season. The AL outside of the East is just horrible. Really bad. that's a good spot to go to the wild card. Let's talk a little wild card. Let's talk a little American League wild card while while not wild, while the American League stinks horribly, so bad. we have one, two, three, four.
Four, five, four teams outside that are within three and a half games or closer of that final wild card spot. Cleveland, very hot at eight and two, currently claiming that final wild card spot. And then the Red Sox, that lead is shrinking very fast, it feels like. they're now four games ahead of Cleveland and four and a half back of the Yankees. Obviously the Red Sox, as we know, tough weekend.
For the Red Sox this weekend, especially Cam Schittler dunking on a Section 10 girl. I think him doing that as a professional pitcher is actually a shot at his ego. I think that that's not even me as a Red Sox fan saying that. That's me as as someone who has seen athletes react to things on the internet, and when they do that.
feel like his ego might have gotten hit just a little bit. It doesn't help that he's, you know, he's got like a sub one ERA against the Red Sox in his career, but still. Yeah, I mean, if the girl that called him ugly had just graduated high school this past summer, he probably would have loved her. And Yeah, if you've seen his Instagram following, he he loves to follow old Miss girls that just now graduated high school. But that's for another time. I've I think this
I I'll be the biased Red Sox fan here. I think this shows how much of a loser Cam Schlitzler is. How many professional athletes, professional baseball players have had women or just any podcast people in general, news reporters, radio guys say horrible things about them? How many of I mean like guys like I'm gonna kill your family? Like how many of those guys respond to that? You might get
A few like it's pretty rare that you get something like that where someone's like entertaining the internet. You are you aren't caring that much about what the outside world has to say about you. We've been hearing since fucking June how Cam Schlitter has been listening to the Jared Carabas podcast and and listening before I that's just coming across my desk now. He listens to section 10. he talked about section 10 or Jared talked about
Hearing about Schlittler listening to section 10 clips and baseball as dead clips before his starts to motivate him. Are you kidding me? That you care that much about what the outside world about what people who are significantly worse than you at what you do, talking about what you do. Why would you care? Like you are soft, you are a little bitch.
Which is worse, which is worse. Sh Schlitler watching the section ten clips. Boone showing the Yankees two thousand and four clips, like from the ALCS in two thousand and four, or Sean McDermott showing my gods showing nine eleven or talking about nine eleven in team meetings. Power rank right now. my god.
From worst to best. Worst to best. What is worse? Because there's a clear one one here. I mean, it's Boone showing four to to the Yankees. That's the worst thing you can ever do. Hey guys, let's get motivated by watching the team I was on the year before get absolutely boat raced in four straight games after winning three straight. And then I'll I'll put nine eleven at three at two. I mean
Just because that's you know, time and place, that's a little weird. They're they play in New York, so that's a little off. and then Buffalo. Buffalo, New York. Schwitler isn't the worst, but that just that's more of personal you're soft rather than than completely affecting the entire team.
But I don't know. If you if you let a twenty something year old girl who talks on a podcast affect you and make you tweet about her and then delete the tweet 'cause you're scared.
I don't know, that I not not my not my era of baseball. Not even Sam Darnold. Sam Darnold didn't entertain Sam Darnold did not entertain the haters when he was in New York. No, it's like you know what he got into you might say he got some of the worst of it in recent memories. yeah. He was probably getting death threats at some point. Yeah. Yeah.
Kim Schlitzler likes to likes likes to make up that he got death threats. And then and then laugh at Will Fleming for getting death threats for Will Fleming saying something. Yeah. Let's let's talk about Will Fleming. I'm gonna be so biased here. I don't care. I when I heard it, I I was listening to the game. Because sometimes I like to listen on the radio sometimes. I was kind of like I it felt a little long-winded because they had done a lot of
I will say on that Sunday game, they did a lot of complaining about New York. Earlier in that broadcast they were talking about him going to get bagels and he was like, Everyone's just mean here. Everyone's so mean. And he just kind of kept going on about it. And I was like, All right, like, it's enough. And then he's complaining about the steal. And I'm honestly one of those guys who's like, You don't like it, fucking stop it. Like, I'm gonna run the score up because we were like, you're not quitting. You're not try you're not just quitting and not trying to come back.
So I'm not gonna quit either.
Yeah, I f I found it to be a little soft. I thought I thought the death threats was crazy. I think that's a little much. death threats over him just saying like don't steal when you're up eight runs. You should not get death threats for that. That's insane. But Will Fleming felt a little bit he felt a little bit like a kid kicking and screaming 'cause he lost. yeah. And he said that in his tweet, his apology tweet was
I don't know, the whole topic of apology tweets is a little bit interesting. But I mean, he did say he got caught up in the moment. He is a diehard Red Sox fan. He got emotional and he apologized for it and said he means no disrespect to Jazz or the Yankees or anything. But like the backlash that he got on that was the most insane. You would think he had said he wanted to bomb a children's hospital in New York, the way that the reaction was to what he said. Yeah. All he said was, I mean, he got emotional.
He said well it should wear a fastball for that. He wouldn't say he didn't say put it in his dome and give him a concussion. He said put it put it in his shoulder, which the biggest I don't condone, but that was normal. Like I yeah, again, I don't I don't condone that. I don't think it's like the smartest thing to do, especially in a rivalry game where you want to win. But I mean it's it's it's it's just a fastball to the back. Like
If you want to be pissed about it, be pissed about it. But Will Fleming's getting death threats and people in his comments calling him like the worst broadcaster. He should be fired, blah, blah, blah. Coming for his job. Come on. Well, how Yankees fans used to celebrate World Series championships and now they celebrate dunking on radio broadcasters and celebrating their ace pitcher crime on Twitter. 20 years ago, they don't even think about this. No, they don't.
And and I would say the same I would say it if it was flipped relationships. Yeah, I would say it if it was flipped. Twenty years ago, if a Yankees announcer did that, red nobody thinks about it. No, who cares? Who cares what a radio and I love Will Fleming Will Fleming, but who the fuck cares what a radio radio? Yeah, I found it funny that it was like the radio guy. I was like, And that's like I've been seeing it on my reels today.
Like the series ended on Saturday or Sunday. It is Wednesday, and I'm still seeing posts about it. Who cares? Dude. Genuinely stop crying. So much. And I would say again, I would say the same thing if the Yankee announcers said it and Red Sox fans were going after. Michael Kay did say it. Michael K said last year that a Red Sox should wear a fastball. I don't I I saw the clip, I don't remember who he's talking about, but Michael Kay has
He claimed he didn't advocate it, but he brought it up drilling a Red Sox player. Or drilling an a it might have been an Astros player. I don't remember. But there was a clip of Michael Kay saying this guy should get drilled with a fastball. And the Yankees bowed down to him. So I don't know. A little hypocritical. Sorry about it. go cry to Cl Cam Schlitzer about it. And that was American League Wildcard Talk. to the National League.
People are gonna see the the the timestamp. They're gonna be like what there is nothing about the wild card in here. to the National League. Right now it is the Philadelphia Phillies sitting a game or a half a game above the Chicago Cubs. Cubs are sitting five games ahead of the Arizona Diamondbacks, and then we have the Padres at half a game, Miami at three games back, St. Louis at four games back, and Pittsburgh at five games back.
Caleb, who who is falling out of this race? Because I feel like somebody who is in right now will be falling out. And I don't think I think I know who you're talking about. Who am I talking about? The Chicago Cubs have the worst bullpen, probably the worst pitching staff in baseball. And they cannot stop losing in late innings because of it. I'm not saying I don't think the Cubs are gonna miss the playoffs.
But I'd be a little nervous if I was a Cubs fan right now. Because the Padres, they have not been great lately. They just recently falled out fell out of that third spot. But I kind of like the talent they've got on that team. They've got a much better bullpen than the Cubs have. They've kind of got similar offensive. Fernando Tatis has kind of heated up lately. I think he had two homers last night. the Diamondbacks look good lately. And I'm I'm
Still not sleeping on the Marlins. I don't know. I mean, three games back, there's a lot of baseball that is going to be played in the next month. And if the Cubs keep on this track that they've been on of blowing games late because of their bullpen, because they're pitching, I I think they just need to hit the crap out of the ball to stay in this. And it feels like for some it just feels like teams like that, it's not sustainable.
in October. No. To really make noise. It feels like you can get yeah, you can get to the playoffs doing that. Hitting the ball and and not being able to pitch. But once October comes around, it just it feels like it flames out very quickly. They talk about bullpins in the playoffs. I mean you they a lot of these short three game series, wildcard series, you see a lot of talk about who's got the best bullpen. That's I mean that that's e even back to
Team at it. Was the O eight raise or I don't remember. Somebody in the late 2000s had just crazy bullpen, and that's just all that was talked about during the playoffs that year. It's like the best bullpen in these short game series wins it. I'm looking at inside the pen right now at bullpen rankings. There are three notable teams that are below the Chicago Cubs.
in ERA. The Miami Marlins, who sit three did I say three games back? They're three games back. The Philadelphia Phillies and the Arizona Diamondbacks. I don't know, because i I'm going off the vibes. I've been watching a couple Cubs games the last week. Last night against the Brewers, Matt Boyd went, I think six innings, two runs, and then the bullpen went out and allowed seven innings or seven runs in the next three innings.
It's and it's not just an outlier for them. It feels like it's been happening multiple times over the last couple of weeks or so. It's the their series against I think it was the Reds this weekend. I believe they lost, and big part of that was their bullpen blowing it. Daniel Palencia has not been the same since he came back from the IL. Jake I think it's Jacob Webb is their closer. He hasn't been very good. Even his saves, he's allowing earned runs.
they're big not their big, but their their bullpen pickup at the deadline was Ryan Zephyrjohn, Red Sox legend. He's been absolutely horrible for them. So th it kind of feels like the Cubs are stuck in a really awkward position where they're past the deadline, so they can't make any moves to improve. They're kinda playing with the cards they're dealt and it isn't really working for them. And to be honest, I'm not
super knowledgeable on their their farm system, but I don't think they have any big relievers in their in their minor league system that they could just call up that's going to make any kind of a difference. So I'm a little nervous on the Cubs. They do have the third best run deferential in the NL, but that pitching is going to be rough going into the playoffs. All right. Well give me give me the wild card.
Teams in the NL as you see it right now. as much crap as I just talked about the Cubs, I think that we'll make it. I think the Phillies will be the first wild card. Shout out Serafino. Love that guy. I think it's going to be Phillies, Cubs, and then it's gonna be a battle at the end of the season between the Diamondbacks and Padres. I said don't sleep on the Marlins, but I don't think they're making it. If you're making me pick, I'd
I think it's gonna be the Padres. And a Padres Brave series would be really interesting in the wild card, especially along with Philly's Cubs. That's gonna be an electric weekend. Yeah, Philly's Cubs will be crazy. That would be awesome.
All right. Well that's a good place to move on We got the NFL in two Sundays, or really, I mean a week from Wednesday. this past Wednesday. This we're recording this on Monday. This episode's gonna release on Friday, so less than a week until we have NFL games. But at this point, the biggest news is Aaron Donald coming back to the Rams.
after a few years in retirement, the Rams are gonna give him twenty million dollars with a chance to get up to thirty million dollars. That's a lot of money for a guy coming out of retirement. This isn't Tom Brady coming out of retirement in the same offseason. He's been out of the game now. He hasn't been to game speed. I think it's a sign the Rams know what the hell they're doing. I think it's a sign that he really hasn't lost a step.
And we might not see him as much on the field as as you know he was prior, but I think where they use him is going to be incredibly valuable and it's gonna feel like he's on the field twenty-four-seven. just waiting.
To get Jokic or something, right? Because now LA Dodgers get Scuble, the Rams bring Miles Garrett in, and now.
Be playing the Super Bowl in that stadium. The Rams could be in it and it'll be seventy-five percent whoever the AFC team is, even if that AFC team is I don't know, it's the most r irrelevant the Dolphins or something. yeah, I I'm sure he's gonna be really good. I don't know if he'll be peak Aaron Donald, but he doesn't have to be. They've got a really deep defensive line in in addition, obviously to Garrett being the the headliner and
You know, gr I I've always believed great football teams, championship football teams are built on the line. Right? Both lines. Offensive line, defensive line is where is where you do it. I mean, look at the Eagles. I feel like they're a great example, that twenty four Eagles team with the with the massive size of all those guys on the O line with the all the game records. I they I guess they set the record for sacks that year or close to it. I don't remember. I think they had the record for weight on an offensive line or something too. On an offensive line. I think their defensive line had
I don't know if was a record where they just led the league in sacks, but they just just massacred the Chiefs offensive line and Mahomes in in Super Bowl was it Super Bowl fifty nine. so I think I mean look, they're in a they're in what going into the season looks like the toughest division because what we figure the Seahawks will be really good again. Figure the forty niners will be really good, maybe not Arizona.
But yeah, if you're gonna if you're paying a guy that much money, again, I don't know. I feels like the salary cap almost doesn't exist. It's like so inflated in the NFL now. There's so many workarounds that it it feels like, yeah, they're not doing exactly what the Dodgers are doing. But doesn't it feel like it could have given him 60 million and it would have been some like they would have deferred it out where it wouldn't hit the cap until later? It did so I don't know if I read into it quite as much as like, they gave him twenty million. I mean, he's Aaron Donald. I mean, he's gonna sell.
Right, he's gonna sell tickets as much as he's gonna get sacks at this point. You know, it's gonna be a it's gonna be a story, right? And and I don't know. I don't know if it works the same as baseball where he he's gonna bring in marketing money like Otani does. I don't think he brings in marketing money like Otani. Probably not, no. So No way. No no shot he does. He's near the
I'm just saying, does he add to the value? If they pay him 20 million, he could bring in five million. It's still and it's like a $15 million contract. I don't know. Yeah, probably talking out of my you know what here. But the Rams, look, the odds makers have them as pretty heavy favorites. I mean, I can't remember the last year where we went into the season where one team was almost twice the betting favorite.
as anyone else for the Super Bowl. I've seen the Rams in the ballpark of plus 500, plus 550, and the next teams, the Buffalo, Ravens, Seahawks in there, being about 10 to 1. So on paper, or at least according to the powers that be in Vegas, there's a lot of belief that the Rams are head and shoulders above everyone else. I don't think it's head and shoulders. I really don't. I think you you still have an older quarterback who needs to stay healthy. You still have, we don't know, you know, if if
what Donald's gonna be. We don't even know, you know, Miles Garrett, I mean, he's gonna be really, really good, but could he take a step back? He's not it's not like he's in his third year, right? He's in what now year ten, eleven. He's he's no spring chicken. So I don't know if I'd buy by it being that big of a gap, but I'll I'll agree that the Rams have as good a chance as anybody right now to win the Super Bowl and and they would do it again in their home stadium if that were the case.
Now, obviously we are, you know, preseason. Like it's very easy to look at roster because that's all we've been doing since February is looking at rosters and thinking about where, you know, how is this team gonna fill this? Like just evaluating rosters. We haven't seen anything on the field. I mean, I just don't see another team that even stands with.
Who do you see? I mean, maybe Seattle, but we know the Super Bowl hangover is gonna be there. You can't deny the Super Bowl hangover. It's there every almost every year for almost every team. Not nothing. I mean, even Seattle went, they right, one I should say. They went back and were a yard away, so I don't know. who's close? I don't see anyone in the NFC South. Nobody in the NFC East. I mean, you lose AJ Brown and you replace him with Hollywood Brown and
Who else? I I don't even remember who they who they signed to supplement that. Yeah, I don't think I feel like Dallas will be better, but they're they're Dallas. They did wave Joe Milton today. The guy threw he could throw an orange 110 yards on the fly. How do you wave them? So I'm gonna pick up. The yeah, the commanders right now have like a paper thin offensive line. I think I feel like maybe one of those North teams were underestimating a little bit.
I feel like any one of those North teams could have like a one of those magical years like when the Vikings won fourteen games two years ago and the Bears did what they did last year. I know there's still a lot of Caleb haters and I don't think it's gonna be the Packers. I'm gonna say it. I really don't. I mean, they're one of those teams that's always at least right around ten, eleven wins. They're gonna be in it, but LaFleur, I think LaFleur's got the he's got the hot seat right now. Well I worry more about Jordan Love and
Josh Jacobs had some off field issues and can Michael Parsons stay healthy. I mean, he was a game changer. Him getting hurt at late in the year definitely changed their fortunes. And Detroit, I mean, I'm not a I'm not super sold on Jared Goff in big games, but they still have a very talented roster. And, you know, who knows what with the defense it can be a lot better with a healthy Aiden Hutchinson. And so, and yeah, Seattle, I still believe Seattle's gonna be good.
I don't know if the they're not I don't know if they're gonna go back to the Super Bowl. The 49ers, like I ever every year it's like, well, you know, injuries and god, even the coach can't say you know, we hope he's okay, obviously, but even their coaches. I watched the the them play the Raiders. He looked to me, he looked normal. He had a mustache, but he looked normal. Like whatever surgery he got, they did a very, very good job on his face. This is not me trying to create a conspiracy theory.
Genuinely, not trying to create a conspiracy theory that he faked the injury or something or his accident. Okay, obviously. Genuinely looked like very normal. I was shocked. I was like, that's I am not expecting it to be this look this good. So good for him. He had a good good surgeon. I mean, he is in California, so a lot of good surgeons over there. Yeah, true. so yeah, I think I think the forty nineers maybe got Mike Evans, right?
Is he hurt did he get hurt? I thought he got hurt. the substation.
Maybe. I I guess I might have missed that. Let me look it let me look this up. he did have a that's the AI. I don't trust the AI. crucial Mike Evans update. They got some good he is expected to play week one. Okay. he had a groin injury that kept him sidelined during their practice on Tuesday. That was August twenty seventh. so last week. But it's considered minor. All right, he's gonna play. That just
I don't know. It it feels like the Randy Moss going to play for the forty niners in twenty eleven, him going there. Way pat you know, he's obviously he's Mike Evans and he was very good for a a number of years. Like did he have a thousand yards last year or did he break his streak? I can't remember. I think he I think he got it. Yeah. He did get it. Yeah, I'm pretty sure. It feels like he's I don't know why. He yeah, no, he was he was bad he was hurt last year, so
He was hurt, so he didn't he didn't get the streak. I just feel like this is one of those he's he's gonna fall off a cliff, and I I really hate to say that, and I really don't want that for him, because he seemed like a perfectly nice guy. It just feels like with the age and the already extensive injury history that he's had, I just don't really see much success for him there.
I I don't know how much of an impact he'll make. I see it like the Keenan Allen to the Colts thing. Which of course he gets a DUI. Of course. Right. Figures, but yeah. I I'm sorry. Scratching her ear. my favorite thing that we do every year is we pick one upset earlier in the early in the year.
One like completely out of nowhere upset that you would not expect. What is your upset that you're seeing? Cause I'm I'm looking at a team like the Dolphins, a team that is just so depressingly not expecting anything from them. Maybe not depressingly bad, but we're not expecting anything from them. Maybe the forty niners. I could see them beating the Niners in week three. you're talking about just like a a team we're not expecting to be good to get off to a hot start?
Not even a hot start. Just get like one big win against a good team. Like remember when when I predicted the the Raiders beating the Ravens? Was it the Ravens? A couple years ago? Yeah, I think you did.
Also, how do we feel on the Raiders? What are we feeling about the Raiders? I don't see the hype. At all. Yeah, they stink. I don't know. I I can't see. I like Kirk Cousins. I love Kirk Cousins as like a person seems like a really nice guy. Mendoza seems like a goober, seems like a Kirk Cousins esque guy. I love it. It's awesome. I don't see any reason.
to believe that they're gonna go to the playoffs. Like I don't I don't even see a wild card spot in their future. yeah, I don't
Look great. There's just nothing really exciting for me, I guess. and we're we're just jumping around here. We're just covering some some NFL topics before we can really prep. for next week. Titans uniform change. What do you think? Don't like it. Trying to take the Oilers from Houston. Yeah. to to go back to your question, I think Carolina.
Carolina. Chicago, Atlanta, well, Cleveland, and then Detroit, Philly, and Tampa, their first six. I don't know why I I I'm kinda high on them. I think just cause they won the division last year, they took the Rams to the wire in the playoffs. Why can't they make a a stride this year?
and then the Giants are gonna be keeping OBJ on the roster. Harbaugh loves seems to like OBJ. Is there a weird connection there that I'm not understanding? Because he, you know, he signed with the Ravens briefly. and he just really wasn't much, and now he's back home in New York. And again, I don't see it with the Giants either. I know Harbaugh's there. I get it. I didn't think Jackson Dart was
incredible last year to be able to carry a a a team like this. I don't see the hype around the Giants. The Giants and the Raiders are kinda in the same boat to me. There's just it's manufactured. It feels very manufactured hype. Right.
Available for the taking. I I don't know, Malik Neighbors is coming back, new coaching bump.
Maybe. Is it a bump? I don't know. Could be. Because I I feel like the Harbaugh we get all excited about Harbaugh every year, both Harbaugh brothers. And they're kinda lackluster. It's it it always kinda ends in disappointment. Both Harbaugh. I'm not even talking about Jim or John. Just talking about the whole the whole family tree there. Doesn't really feel as exciting once we're in it.
I think the idea of the Harbaughs is a lot more exciting than what we actually get.
Probably. Probably. It took Tom Coughlin a a year when he came in to put his system in place. Of course he had Eli Manning, probably a little better than Jackson Dart, at least right now. Yeah, I d I don't I don't think Eli I don't think Jackson Dart is Eli. I think that's that's pretty fair to say. what else are Tyler Shuck. MVP? Maybe?
Are we gonna see some jumps out of him?
I think the Saints will be improved. I do. But not getting overhyped.
And then Ravens. How we feelin'? Should be good. Defense gotta stay healthy. Gotta gotta create a winning culture by not blowing games. The only way you can do it is just just win Just figure out a way to win I wanna see one or two big comebacks by the Ravens this year. I wanna see a game where they're down like ten or fourteen in the fourth quarter and win, rather than lose a game that they're I just
Just even in like the years that they've dominated or had really good regular seasons, it's because they're they get a lead and then they just smother teams. But that's not how you win championships. I think if early in the year they can prove that they can win some close games, they can win from behind. I think I'll feel a lot better about the chances of of actually making a run in January and February. Bill's New Stadium. How you feeling on the Bills New Stadium? I think it's horrible. Terrible.
At least it's outdoors. Yeah, they did one thing right and the rest looks cheap. Yeah. They look it looks like they made the whole thing out of foam. Yeah. and then the Chiefs. Where are we at in the AFC West?
AFC West is good, better than in years past. I still think Denver. We're not talking a lot about Denver. They won a lot of close games last year, so I can see why people think like maybe they'll, you know, it was more luck and the Chargers are still the Chargers, but they'll win games. I think the Chiefs are gonna bounce back. I don't think they're gonna be incredible, you know, but double digit wins doesn't seem too far fetched. Obviously gotta see if Mahomes is healthy, see if they take the reins off of him, see if their offensive line protects him.
What does Kelsey have left in the tank? is Kenneth Walker gonna have a big effect? He yeah, he absolutely could. I mean, clearly Pacheco had fallen off and he's in Detroit now. That could be, yeah, if if Kenneth Walker's not just another, you know, running back bust who got a big contract. Is he gonna be that or is he gonna be like closer to Derrick Henry? You know? I think he'll be good. I think he'll if if he stays on the field, he'll be good.
And that will make a difference for the Chiefs. They need a run game. They haven't had that in a few years. They need pass protection. Seems like they haven't had that in a few years. And kind of curious about their defense. Brought back Legarius Sneed. You know how that goes. The guys they leave the Chiefs or the Patriots and they're not good. And you're like, now they're done. And then they come back, plug back into the system, they're fine. Just need They get their superpowers again. Yep. Yeah. Well
I think that's a good place to wrap this segment up. Next week we're gonna do a full NFL preview. We'll go through every team. we'll also have some themed snake a themed snake draft to match that. but let's move on to the next segment. Alright, we're in the Maryland spotlight. We have Mike on to talk some Orioles, talking Samuel Basal, and just a little bit of sandlop baseball. just a local Baltimore thing that I wanted to shout out, give a couple minutes to it.
But one of our one of our fans or whatever you want to call him saw the clip that that we had posted with you talking about Samuel Pasayo and how he's gonna replace Adley Rutschman and he made a good point that Pasayo doesn't catch more than four games a week. and if you want a you know a leading catcher, a star catcher, he's gotta be able to do more than that. And considering his age and he's not doing, you know, more than four games a week at twenty two.
is that gonna be a sign for concern for the Orioles down the stretch? And just in his career?
Not yet. Not yet. I mean, you have to see how durable he is in terms of his his injury situation, right? He's always already seen time in the I. L. It's that, you know, like again, that there's a lot of people who have jumped on Jackson Holiday at this point in his career. There's there's a lot of learning, you know, maturity-wise, how to take care of your body. I mean, you listen to like Tom Brady talk about his early years, we're not comparing Visa to Tom Brady, but he
He ate cheeseburgers and he was his body had a lot of inflammation those earlier. I'm not that Bissayo's gonna go on that same They were both catchers, to be fair. Catchers, exactly. So Brady, I'm sure, learned some some things about his body taking a beating. you know, Basaio had an outburst a little bit in the dugout the other night against against the A's. I mean, things like that. Guys do grow up, you would hope. so I don't think there's
cause for concern. I think it the only cause for concern is if there's a neglect. You know, if Pasayo kind of looks at it like, no, I don't need to do anything right. But sometimes young guys they can get put in their place by veterans. That's why it's important to have those guys on the team to pull them aside and say, hey, you're young, but here's what you need to learn. And we saw, was it Cooper Pratt got benched in the middle of a game for not hustling a fly ball that fell in for a hit in in the game that the Brewers ended up losing. And he's also
Twenty two and so there's there's a learning curve with young players. I I think it's okay. I think you give them a little leeway, especially guys who are I mean it's not like Basaio's getting into trouble off the field that we know of or anything like that. I mean, this is more of like a just growing pains, young guys who get thrust into the spotlight, and in his case, you know, he's suddenly been elevated, right? He comes up and there's there's expectations, but then he also can kind of
be a little bit out of the limelight because Adley Rutschman's there, because the Orioles have some other good young players, but now he's kind of like, okay, he's front and center. And so maybe he needs that talking to maybe he just has to learn to adapt to being a little bit more a little closer to being one of the faces of the franchise moving forward. Mm-hmm. and again, like is that durability just gonna come with getting a little older, getting into his prime? Probably.
Probably, you know. Basal is a big guy. He's six four, two fifty. At least that's what he's listed. He's not, you know, a thin, wiry catcher. I don't know if that, if his weight in particular or his size, contributes to that at all. But then again, you know, we look at a look at a guy like Salvador Perez, who has played a very long time in the majors. He's six two, two fifty five. And so I don't know. I don't remember back as far as twenty eleven when Sal came into the league if there were concerns, you know, he caught
39 games his first year, 76 games his second. And then by year three, he plays 138 and then 150. So there's you know, Besaio would be thrilled if his career turned out out half as good as Salvador Perez. But yeah, I'm not sure exactly what to attribute it to. it could just be, yeah, it could be as simple as just needing a little conditioning and and maybe he's hitting a rookie wall.
I mean, we don't think about that too. The minor leaguers they come up, they talk about it in football with quarterbacks or well, or really any players. So there's I think it's something to to keep an eye on next year, but I don't think it's anything for concern yet. Is next year the year that Besaio needs to make the jump? The you know, kind of establish himself a little bit more, or do you think he has a couple years to do that? He probably has a couple years. I think they need to see improvement. And I think there's been
Again, I I feel like Jackson Holiday is a good comparison in the sense that, you know, he c he came in with even more expectations being the top pick. And it was always easy to j to forget just how young Holiday is. And you saw little signs of improvement the last few years. And it was a little bit like, okay, now maybe this is the year for Holiday because it's really his his third year in the majors. I mean, he only you know, he played sixty games his his rookie year. He's still twenty-two.
Right. But now you're starting to see a little bit from him. But yeah, I I I I think people I think people are gonna wanna see improvement next year of some kind. The the feeling that it's going in the right direction. But it it's hard. I mean baseball more than any other sport I think, any of the other major pro sports, we see guys come into their own in their thirties.
You know, it's not quite like football where you kind of have a a a smaller window of your prime to break out. And it may take quarterbacks a couple years. And you maybe a guy like Sam Darnold is a is an argument against that in a sense. But also with football, you factor in, you know, it it's more about guys fitting in in certain schemes. And baseball, you're not really sure. All right. We see great stories. We see guys, you know, come back from a long time out of the game or guys
Who have been journeymen who suddenly have breakout years. So it's really hard to say. It's just the more a guy is in the limelight, the more pressure he feels. And then it's just a matter of how well he can handle it mentally as much as physically. Mm-hmm. and just staying on the Orioles topic, you guys have won five of six. Obviously, the the opponents, actually, I'm sorry. you guys have won eight of s or
Can't do this math. Why can I not do this math right now? Seven of nine. I'm sorry. Seven of nine. Took a series against the Rays at home. took the series in St. Louis and swept the athletics. the Rays, good team, but you know, St. Louis and and the athletics, not amazing, but you did what you had to do, right? And now we're sitting here, you're fourteen and a half back of the division. The division is is out of reach.
for you guys. That is a Red Sox Yankees rays race, like it normally is. but the Yankees raise race, so I hate to break it to you, but for the division. For the division. I think the Red Sox are still in there. Good we we got some time. but you're a game back at Cleveland and you have the Red Sox this weekend. I I think the Red Sox would that be a good barometer and Cleveland is very well known
to make an an August September run, which they've ki they've been doing. They're eight and two in their last ten right now. It's exactly what they needed. so where do the Orioles stand? Like what are you feeling right now? Just give me a little rundown on on the O's. Yeah, I it's it's easier to say, hey, they're playing better baseball, right, winning seven and nine. I mean they get swept at home by the Yankees, which is a real gut punch. They're two and eight against the Yankees this year, but they are eight and five.
They won the series eight to five against the Rays. So go figure, you know. I think some teams just match up better. Division rivalries can be weird. but as you know, September baseball, and again, I say more than any other sport, the bad teams are more dangerous in that final month than in than in any other sport, it seems like, right? There's a young teams with a lot to prove. There's a war of attrition when you get into those final 25-30 games for
the teams that are feeling the pressure of making a playoff push. And so if you look at the schedule and say, okay, well, they're going to St. Louis, Sacramento, and Colorado, they should win, you know, whatever, six of nine, seven, it it's still really hard to do. And so to start the road trip five and one is great. You know, course field, that's never an easy place to play. It's never an easy place to close out games, which coincides with the fact that the Orioles bullpen is still
Somewhat shaky. you know, there's a the that would be my biggest concern. Well, I think the pitching in general would be my biggest concern and how it can hold up down the stretch. but as you pointed out, like Cleveland, Toronto, the teams that are right there with them in the American League wildcard race, they will have a chance to play a number of games. They'll have six against the Blue Jays in the last month.
they'll have four with Boston, which they're not at that point, they're not actually competing really for a wildcard spot with them. But they'll have three with Cleveland. So that they kind of I I wouldn't say they control their own destiny, but they have a chance to kind of do their own dirty work, if you will. but yeah, I'm just the the concern for me is really the pitching.
again, the the injuries that they've had. I think just you look at their their bullpen ERA is not terrible. It's actually 13th in the league. But again, they don't really have a true closer right now. You know, who are they gonna entrust the most in the ninth inning or the late innings of these games? What are they gonna get out of starters like Brandon Young that have not
pitched in these type of games before. Can Trevor Rogers be the good Trevor Rogers that we saw for a a good portion of like this second half so far? Or is he going to be the guy that got off to a a really bad start? the Orioles are 19th in rotation ERA. So you know, and and more so than that, more so in terms of statistics that are a little
concerning or that you wanna see is can the Orioles get innings out of their starters, which they actually are seventh in baseball and getting innings out of their starters. So that's gonna be key to continue that and take some of that pressure off the bullpen, not make Craig Albanaz feel like he has to exhaust all his options. Is there guys that have not you know, a guy like Rico Garcia, right, got off to an amazing start. The league's figured him out a little bit. He hasn't pitched, you know, this many innings in a season. So those are the things but I
Pete Alonzo, man, that's that wasn't totally sure at first. you know, I figured, yeah, he's gonna kind of put up his his statistical norms, but he has really been on fire and he's really carried the offense for the most part of late. You know, they've had guys that have stepped up
All year and gotten clutch hits. A guy like Leody Tavares is a great example. You've seen like flashes from Jackson Holiday and Kobe Mayo starting to figure out how to hit right handers. And you see flashes of Bisayo, right? When he's he's healthy and doing his thing. But but yeah, I think I think Alonzo's gonna have to stay really hot because I think as he goes, the offense goes. And Gunnar Henderson is kind of the biggest wild card. He had a a huge game yesterday against the A's. You know, it was like waited a whole season to see a game.
like that they need Gunnar to be. I mean he's not gonna go four for five every game, but they need him to be Gunnar Henderson. Like they need their stars. That's kind of been another story of the year of of the guys that they thought other than Alonzo that were gonna help the team whether it's offensively, you know, like like I was talking about Henderson or a guy like Trevor Rogers or Bradish who struggled of late like that
The key, I think, what's going to determine whether the Orioles do actually make that number six seed is going to be those star guys, those guys that they need to depend on playing at the at the level they're capable of. And there is a lot of discussion surrounding the sixth seed, and a lot of people are a little fed up because you have a team that's 500. actually one game over 500 right now. Currently
you know, going to make the playoffs and and some people just feel it's kind of illegitimate to make the playoffs if you are not over five hundred. Now we see that in the NFL. I think the NFL is a very different sport because you're playing 17 games versus 162. If you make the playoffs in a 162 game season, you should be able to get over five hundred. Getting over five hundred if you are a playoff worthy team should be pretty easy.
To win more than 82 games, to win more than half of your games. The NFL, it I think it it's a little harder just because you get 17 chances to win a game. S sometimes you are like the Chiefs and just games just don't break your way. Like the way that you know maybe they should in the past or whatever. I personally I see it as chaos. Like baseball is chaos. We've seen bad teams go on runs.
all the time. It it just happens. And I mean, look at the the Royals team in fourteen. Like they weren't exactly world beaters. but they went into those playoffs and, you know, they they came back against the Astros and then they took the Dynasty Giants to seven games. I mean they took them really to the final out in that game seven. so I think it's good for baseball. Some people are are really pissed off about it, but I think baseball wise it's important. I think the NFL, you should have to have a winning record.
I think it's the other way around to make the playoffs. Mm. And for the record, that fourteen Royals team, I know what you're talking about, but the wild card game that year, sometimes one game in a postseason can propel you. That that crazy was it twelve inning game against the A's, then swept the Angels, swept the Orioles to get to the Giants. And then right, fifteen, but that's also a good example. Was fifteen the Astros where the Astros moved. The Astros they're for the Astros. In the eighth inning of an elimination game, came back and won. And so sometimes it could take one game or one moment.
in a postseason. Of course, of course we it's a whole other subject for another show, but you know, the the owners are sorry, the players association is hoping that there's a team that can do that that isn't the Dodgers this year, win the World Series and say, Hey, see, we don't need a salary cap, although I think the system's broken, they need one regardless. But that's a discussion for another day.
Yeah, I don't I don't know. Like I think in any sport you shouldn't be able to make the playoffs if you can't win more than half your games. I I hate it. I mean if you end up in a situation where only where every team or only five teams have winning records in the AL, and so be it, and you have to default to a team with a losing record, then I don't know what you can do in that case when you're gonna shrink the playoffs. Put a National League team in. Just say the National League team with a winning record that doesn't make the playoffs. Just put them in there. Yeah, I mean, right now.
The Astros lead the ALS, the game over for.
A game over 500. The Astros have a minus 43 run differential. I mean, if you believe or or care about that, because the Tigers are plus, you look at all the teams under that line for the playoffs, they're all, you know, double digits, and a lot of them are minus 50, 70, 191 in the ace case. And then there's the Tigers, plus 65. And they're five and a half games out of the wild, right? So
Don't look at that so much, but I I I mean the the American League and the National League, like it doesn't even matter anyways anymore. Like they there's no specialty between the league anymore. Right. And everybody plays everybody throughout the season. So every World Series from Here to Eternity is going to be a rematch of a regular season series. Right. That used to be a thing, like two teams that often didn't face each other or there was a one and three chance based on the division that you played.
And now every team will face each have hate have faced each other that year and will rematch the next year. And it's like kind of takes a little bit of the suspense out of the World Series. But yeah, I mean, the National League race is great, and that the team that's half a game out of the playoffs in the National League is seven games over 500 San Diego. there are exactly three teams in the American League that are more than what are the Red Sox? Eleven over, right?
well the White Sox are eight over. So four teams in total. it's it's terrible. It's it's really mediocre. It's really bad. The White Sox are gonna get a buy and nothing against them. They've had a really nice season, and maybe they'll prove us all wrong in October. Maybe they'll go on a run because again, nobody's that good. But
To just think about where they were two years ago losing a a record hundred and twenty-one games. and now two years later, not only are they gonna be in the postseason, but they're probably gonna have a first round bye if they win the division. Yeah. Man, that's that's that that to me is maybe the best example of where the where the American League really stands. So this is it's just insane because we had just talked about the Orioles and the
I think maybe you had mentioned it, Michael Eyes saying that you need to have at least three hundred lost seasons to be like to have to have winning baseball. Like you have to start with three hundred lost seasons and then you can have winning baseball. Well, the White Sox are doing it. They're doing exactly that. They had three hundred lost seasons, and now they are sitting pretty three and a half games up in the central. Now, the Guardians being three and a half games back.
Heading into September scares me. If I or if I was a White Sox man, it would scare me a ton because we know what the Guardians do. But it's just it's one of those cool baseball stories that they lost a hundred years. I mean, it was the most depressing team ever. Like, remember when that Dodgers it was a Dodgers pitcher, I can't remember his name, got traded over to Chicago and it was like genuinely from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows you could ever have. Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, a 35 homer guy, probably. it yeah, and they're and they're looking I think there's something to be said, how beautiful that can be in in well in any sport, you know, the Lions, what were they? you know, a couple of they took three years after they went 0-16, they made the playoffs in 2011, for example.
I think that's why there's so much resentment towards the Dodgers and the Yankees, especially, who are there every single year. I mean, even the Red Sox, right? They they ebb and flow a little. No, no, no, no, no, no. Don't don't speak ill. I'm kidding. I'm kidding. No, go ahead. Go My point is, is like even teams that win a lot but kind of will will rebuild or or not be afraid to kind of take those down years. I mean, heck, even the Patriots, who would have thought we'd be saying that? it it's a real it's really
It is there's really something to be said about that. And of course Michaelyas and the Astros had a hundred loss seasons. I a bunch of them before they got good in fifteen and took a couple of years and they win the World Series. But I I hope the White Sox go on a run. I really do. I mean, it's would be would be great. You know, Chicago baseball right now, there's a lot of excitement. Yeah. but it show you know, it shows that.
You can build winning teams. I mean, obviously you still have to spend money. I do believe that. But I if I could just it and if you look at the L10 column, last 10 in baseball, the hottest teams who are 8-2. There's four teams who are eight and two in their last 10. The Phillies in the National League, the Braves, Braves won seven straight.
the Royals, who just got ridiculously hot, and and then the Guardians. And if there's one word I can use to describe the Guardians, it's cute. They're cute. They're not pretty. They're not beautiful. They're not gonna win. To me, they feel like
Well, since the twins probably won't be in there, they they supplant them as the biggest waste of a playoff spot. I'm just saying it now. I'll go on the record and eat my words if the Guardians end up in the World Series. It's not gonna happen. No way, no how. Alrighty. and then I just want to give a quick shout out to the Baltimore Sandlot League. I played played in a pickup game on Friday and then played in played for the Baltimore Hellbirds.
on Saturday and that was a lot of fun. went two for two also with a hit by pitch and a walk. made a nice little diving catch in center field too, just to put the cherry on top. But it was a lot of fun. you know, men's league, like adult league baseball. I think that is really where baseball that feels like baseball to me 'cause everyone's just doing it for the love of the game. You're not getting paid anything to go out and play baseball, but you spend your Saturday afternoon
you know, on the diamond. So yeah, just wanna give him a quick shout out. Really cool Lee. Go check out. If you're a beginner or just looking to get back in there, go go check out. my dog just walked in, she's sniffing a bag. but we're gonna move on to the next topic.
Welcome back to Excuse Our Opinion, the podcast that was definitely not inspired by PTI as a result of Hirambe's death in two thousand sixteen. We had the idea prior to Harambe's death. John, what is your opinion?
Caleb. I got I got You're good? I am of the opinion that if you have enough money, you should not be getting scammed by hookers in trailer parks. okay, never mind, never mind, we're good. That was a different scam than I had. Now my question. You're a billionaire, right? And you're trying to get some action.
Are you going after your divorce? After your divorce. After divorce and meeting someone in a trailer park for $140. Is that a normal human move? I no it's not. And I think the worst part is that he was a billionaire and he had to pay for a prostitute. You're telling me you can't find a woman as a billionaire to sleep with you? Are you that insufferable?
Are you that awful? Are you that disgusting as a person that you need a prostitute in general? You can hire an escort and you can get them to sign an NDA. You can get him to sign a contract and say, I did not pay for sex. He did not pay for sex. So he's a billionaire who went back to live with his parents. I think he's a pretty incompetent. Did he really? Yeah, no, that's why he was in town. He was living with his parents.
Maybe his parents' house, whatever. It was some his parents were involved and they were there like they were like Yeah. my god. Let me look it up while you guys discussed. No, they don't live at the trailer park. They live in a nice house. But didn't probably about fifteen minutes from the trailer park. Mommy, will you take me to see my friend? I'll give you a billion dollars. What a Okay. Will we do the snake? Did he go there alone?
Bo if he went there alone, that's hilarious. He's got no one else there with him. And it was a setup. Like the cops are probably there's no fucking way this guy shows up. Lo and behold. Biggest losers of all time snake draft going to the one one. I'm taking that guy.
He's still very heavily involved in the in the 49ers, apparently. I bet he is. Because it's the NFL. Maybe you saw what Robert Kraft was up to and thought, hey. No, maybe some of Maybe that'll bring us a championship. Don't ruin mine! Don't ruin mine. His best player. His best player got in trouble and he's like, fucking watch this. that's so funny. He was in also.
This is hilarious, relating to Robert Kraft. He was in East Palestine, Ohio. Robert Kraft wouldn't be caught dead in East Palestine, Ohio. Would not be caught dead anywhere near Palestine. Ohio. Palestine, Ohio. Yeah, just the Ohio one.
What's up with NFL owners and cheap hookers? Trailer parks. At least Robert Kraft went to like a massage therapy. He went to a classy establishment. We're not saying classy. We never said it was classy. But he went to an establishment. Apparently he contacted the ad three times before he went. Please, please let me come to your trailer park.
You didn't get to contact him three times because he was such a fucking loser that she's like, I don't even want to set this guy up, dude. He's too pathetic. Lives with his Can you imagine how much you won the divorce? Like she she won the divorce immediately. Like it w there was no debate of who won and who lost the breakup. It was just I win immediately. No de it was it was the it was Seahawks Patriots Super Bowl. That's what it was. It was Seahawks Patriots.
Do they have a body cam of him getting busted? I'm sure they do. Well, apparently they deleted the Robert Kraft one, so they might delete this too. Do you think when he got there and the cops came out and they're like, You're under arrest for soliciting prostitution? Do you think he was like, man, I can't believe this is happening to me? Or do you think he like, Yeah, I should have seen this coming? Like now in hindsight, it's completely obvious that I was talking to a police officer the entire time.
He probably I feel like he's probably never interacted with like stuff like that. Like that's just something he never has had to touch in his life. So you don't know what you don't know. And he didn't know. So he's probably like, that's what a cop sounds like? man, what a dork. What a dork.
Loser. Absolutely like I I don't like to say that too much because everyone's got their stuff, but I've never, never contacted a prostitute. Never done that. Never in my life. So yeah, what a loser. Caleb as a bartender, I mean I knew who they were.
Alright we gonna look at this fucking chud. Look at this chud. Look at his stupid face.
okay, Caleb. Alright, I'll roll with it. I'll I'll roll with my my old head take here because I was watching some pitcher home run compilations the other day. I I'm not gonna say I hate the DH. I'm not gonna say abolish the DH. I'm saying I miss pitchers hitting. I you don't I do too. You I do no you do you don't
I do. Yes, I do. What the fuck are you talking about? You're gonna say you're gonna say, you want pitchers punting, you want the I I don't care about that part of it. A I miss the pitcher home runs from the big dude. I I miss I love seeing the guys like Zembrano, Mad Bomb, Arietta, Grinky, the dudes that could rape. But I'm talking a lot about the strategy involved at the end of the game. You're seeing this the same hitters roll through one through nine and the bench hitters.
The bench doesn't really matter that much anymore besides of besides defensive ability, platoons. I I miss seeing pitchers hit. I miss seeing the strategy involved in the back half of the game. Legitimate question. Do you actually miss pitchers hitting? Or do you enjoy the nostalgia of back when pitchers hit? And because every once in a while you can go in and see the pitcher home run highlights.
Does anybody go back and watch highlights of Randy Johnson looking at three straight balls right down the pipe? And I go back and watch Rick Porcello hitting hitting a a double against the three Nationals on July fourth. Off of Scherzer. Off of Scherzer. You miss the nostalgia of pitchers hitting. it's just the randomness, the surprise, the pleasant surprise of the double in the gap.
Do you remember how tuned in the entire world was to Bartolo Cologne, every single at bat that he took? I didn't I didn't agree with it. Can you imagine that with Tugboat Wilkerson right now? Can you imagine seeing Tugboat Wilkerson for the Giants get up there and swing the bat? I've never seen him swing a bat. I don't I didn't believe it, but the Mets announcer said this is the greatest moment in baseball history. I did not agree with it. I was like, that is crazy. But in the moment, he felt that. And I guarantee you, a certain amount of people did feel that.
I am not saying eliminate the DH. Obviously, o the offensive production is much better in the National League without pitchers hitting. But I had so much fun tuning into a National League game and going because I'm a Red Sox fan. I I saw David Ortiz DHing for years. So I that's all I knew was the DH. But tuning into a National League game and seeing Zach Grinky at the plate with the potential to rip a double on the gap, because I think he hit what, two twenty, two thirty for his career.
Guys like that, like Sintergaard hitting two home runs off of the Dodgers ten years ago, whatever that was. The the moments like that made it exciting and made it a lot more fun. I I don't think that the D that that it makes the game better, but I am saying I miss it and I wish there was so it's not possible, but some way where there's like a a a we a week or a month long stretch where pitchers have to hit. And especially you can't force that, but
Especially now with how you know, everyone plays everyone now. Like no matchup is special anymore. Like I I remember when like when you played a national league team, I was like, I w I actually want like I'm that's appointment for me. Like I'm if the Red Sox go to play the Dodgers in like two thousand ten, like I was like, I'm gonna watch that because I wanna see the Red Sox at Dodgers Stadium or when they played the Cardinals. I wanna see them play the Cardinals in the regular season, like watch a three game set.
When we ha now we have this where like the leagues don't matter. The American League and National League doesn't matter. There's nothing that matters. They used to be two separate leagues and there were actual distinctions between the leagues, and then they would play each other in the World Series. It mattered back then, and now it just doesn't. Like just put them all into the into MLB. Just make it MLB. Don't even give me fucking conferences, leagues, whatever. It's not it's not the National League in the American League anymore.
It's just not. Yeah, you too. So I agree with you, Caleb. hard. You saw the strategy changes in the World Series. Like when you're playing at the National League Park. When you gotta have David Ortiz play first base. Yeah. And David Ortiz threw out Jeff Supon at third base from first base in the O four World Series. And that was so sick. I wasn't old enough to really experience it, but the clip was sick. Stuff like that was a lot of fun. Like
In 2011, David Ortiz would have to play first base. You see Adrian Gonzalez in right field. I'm not saying that's great for baseball, but it was a lot of fun. And it is but it was cool to see. And I wish baseball like that. It makes baseball baseball. Like I I'm sick of like every rule has to logically make sense. Like it's like this has to make sense for everyone. Like sometimes things don't have to make sense a hundred percent of the time. Like sometimes we can just have a rule to have the rule.
Because it's fun and it's a fucking game. That's what I like seeing day like having Terry Francona have to think, shit, should I take Poppy out? Like we're in a run one run game in the ninth. Like we want to be able to be sure if we have to go to extras, he's gonna be able to hit, but his defense is horrible. Like having to decide that, that's that's the strategy of the game. That's the beautiful part of the game. And now it's just it's it's not
It's not a game I recommend. I think it gave American League teams an unfair advantage because pitchers who hated hitting would just go sign to an American League team so they didn't have to hit. I didn't like that part of it. National League pitchers being like, fuck, I hate hitting. I'm out. But then you also had guys like Grankey who were like, I don't give a fuck. I can hit. I'll go play in the National League. I'll be sick. That was interesting, but I think it weighed much more heavily in the American League. But then the Amer but then I think we saw it more in interleague play in the World Series where
National League pitchers were just more used to taking at bats. They that's what they did all year versus American League pitchers. I mean how many because he had hit before. And that's how many that's that's the fun part of it. I I I love seeing like guys line up their their hitters. So you know, you you saw like some some teams were hitting their pitcher in the eight hole, so they could line up a nine hole guy to like a second leadoff. I don't know.
It was like a lot of weird, random stuff that was revolved around that. And I'm a again, it's the league wasn't better off for that. But it was a l it was a lot of fun. It was cool. It wasn't I don't think it was bad. Like that's the thing. MLB was like the least buttoned up, like professional looking sports league because of that. Like everything was structured in the other leagues. And MLB maybe if they wouldn't let anybody celebrate back then.
The league was much more boring back then for a lot of different reasons. It was too buttoned up. But I know exactly that kind of stuff with today's league where they're having more fun and there's more analytics and strategy kind of built into whatever's going on. I d I think it would be kind of interesting. I'm I don't think it would make or break the league right now, but I I it would be fun. It would be cool to see hitters sitting right now or pitcher sitting right now.
I love the DH. I think it just makes it I think it makes baseball it differentiates baseball from the rest of the sports. Like baseball is not supposed to be perfectly buttoned up. That's not what the sport is, in my opinion at least. But whatever. I have a take.
If you're gonna send money to an NFL player, you should verify that the player exists as a real player. It's never been easier. It's never been easier. It's literally never been easier. I think that's a hot take. I don't know, because 26 women fell for it. just absolutely insane story. I love that this guy bought a helmet. Huh? What was he offering them?
Was it like I have I have connections with agents, I can get you a modeling contract, I can get you in the movies, it's a down payment official. This is what it was to join it. He had this little so he would meet these women and I think I think they would meet up in person, but he would meet these women and he would bring his little f his eighteen-year-old financial advisor along.
And he would be like, this guy's like he's like, I'm in the NFL. This guy handles all my money. He's made me so much money and investments. I'll take money for you and you know, he'll he'll make you money. So you gotta but you gotta give me like fifty, a hundred thousand dollars or whatever it is. And obviously they would just steal the money. Like, of course, it's the easiest thing ever. I love that he bought the helmet. He had like the thousand dollars, thousand dollar forty nineers helmet.
And just wore it all the time. He brought it everywhere. Him working out in the in the chain, the forty nineers like big chain, like the turnover chain, is maybe my favorite video of all time. Cause when that's why I think it's important in society to be like well versed in just like common society things. You don't have to be a massive fan, but to be like somewhat of a sports fan and you see that and you're like that that doesn't look right. I all you have to do is
Google it and be like, No, there's no NFL player with that name. No, there's no Well so the funny thing is, when people Googled him, the AI would pop up because it would take from his Instagram, and his Instagram had said Forty Niners player, blah blah blah. And they would just read the AI and just think, yeah, he's just he's legit. He's real. So he might actually just be a genius. And the more fucked up thing is, these peop like he would ho he hosted either cause there was there's actually two people who were doing the same somewhat of the same scam.
But this guy, he either did a turkey giveaway, quote, hosted a turkey giveaway, or he went to do like an autograph, like signing autographs at like a mall or something. Which is crazy. He actually he actually went to sign autographs. One of these, because there again, there's two people who are currently running this scam. it's also funny that he he plays for the 49ers, and Jed York also just got arrested for prostitution, so there's like two
Very negative Forty Niner stories out there. I think this is the substation. I think the substation is doing this to them. Just doing it to their image. You guys know about the substation? I don't know about the substation. you don't know about the substation? Caleb, do you know about the substation? I I don't know the exact details, but I know like it it supposedly causes all the injuries they dealt with. Well the the Forty Niners practice practice facility is right next to a substation. So they just say that they get hurt because they play next to a substation.
The freaking stuff. Maybe maybe the substation made Jed York want to go to Ohio and get a prostitute. Well, they make him think that this Instagram guy. For a long time people I'll I'll go for it. Go. For a long time people believe that So what I was thinking was Go ahead, John. I'm keeping my mouth shut. I'm putting my hand over my mouth. For a long time people didn't believe that.
astroturf cause cancer and then they fucking prove that it definitely does, maybe it's the same thing. In twenty five years we'll be like, the Niners would have won every Super Bowl if they were all exposed to the substation. They should put up a banner if that happens. Do like the Florida State or the Colts. The Colts AFC finalist banner. UCF. UCF national champs. Would have been national champs. The Florida State one's my favorite. They were number four in in
College basketball in the COVID season. Put up a banner.
Caleb, as the premier banner guy, because you you have experienced the most banners on this show. what does a banner mean to you? What banners have I won? Well, as a Boston sports fan, as a Patriots fan. I think I meant my personal banners. I'm like, I no, no, not your personal banners. You haven't won shit. Well, you should put up a banner for Blaze Jordan never getting hit on people. Blaze Alexander, not Blaze Jordan. Blaze Alexander.
Yeah, hang the banner. Caleb Williams. Caleb Williams strikes out Blaze Alexander eight times. What is it? Eight? Six. Six. for eight. Sorry. O for eight. I'm gonna have my wife.
No, you don't get that. yeah, your fingernails? Okay. same name. We can do the same name as Caleb Williams, same name as Caleb Williams. And do not elaborate at all. That title is on Caleb Williams' mantle, so that's all I can say. You can you come on here next episode with your nails painted real pretty? I wouldn't be caught dead with it. I do it at rock concerts. Looks sick. Alrighty. Well that's a good place.
That's a good place to wrap up the topic. Let's move in to the next one. Alrighty. we're gonna start the snake draft. I so we we the vote has been stolen. The election has been stolen by Caleb. Way down in Florida, that election has been stolen. but I'm gonna take the last place, so I'm going to pick.
And I feel like this is I I'm I'm gonna take the third pick here. I want the third pick. Smart. 'Cause I don't wanna have to wait. Because the I'll I'm I'll deal with the one one and the one two. I don't wanna have to wait. I'd rather I'd rather have my three and four. It drops off hard after five, six, or maybe seven, so it might be a smart choice. John next choice. You want one there is a clear one one. Yeah. no, that's fine. Yeah.
And Caleb, you get six. I'm gonna take the two. I'm gonna take the two because I don't you're you're taking the two. You're taking the two. I'll take the easy one one. Well, cause the flip, the the flip out on the second round leaves you out without two of the dominant ones. I'll take two dogs. I've I've got a couple dogs that'll fall to fall to six. All right, Caleb. You're on your friend. Start us off. Let's go. I tier it take arguably the greatest Olympian of all time, twenty eight gold medals.
Or 23 gold medals, 28 medals, Michael Phelps. It's not thank you. It's not a bad pick by any means. It's the clear one one. No, I think there's another one one out there. He's the greatest American Olympian of all time, probably. I'm sorry. I'm I'm I'm thinking of someone, and I'm doing a hell of a lot of campaigning for John, because I know who he's gonna take. John's about to Someone who who is one of the most prolific Americans people in history. He is he is
A god there is a literally a movie depicting him as god.
Michael Phelps tough. This is pretty one of the greatest Olympians of all time. Probably the greatest. That's great. I'm not shitting on Michael Phelps. Comfortably with my clear one one. But I think there was a clear one one, and you did not take him. Tell me how many Olympic medals that fat piece of shit from the 1920s is. Can I pick? Yes, you can. Cal Ripkin Jr. My man stayed home. He stayed in Baltimore. He brought them an MVP.
He won him a World Series. If we're talking Baltimore born athletes, how about the guy that brought one home for the city of Baltimore? Cal Ripkin Jr. And no, you go ahead, take take Babe Ruth, Alex. I respect you for taking Ripkin over that fat subject. I think I think Ripkin's good. I think Ripkin again, like I think these top three, it was clear they are the top three. It's just a matter of personal preference of where you put them.
Ripkin embodies the city of Baltimore. Yeah, he is he is Baltimore. It's a fantastic. I mean, he is the Orioles. Remember, I'm the Baltimore guy now. You may live there, Alex, but I just became the Baltimore guy. I'm a hero now. When you I took Cal Ripkin over Babe Ruth. When you think of the Baltimore Orioles, you think of Cal Ripkin. You think of the record, you think of all those different things.
Take your picks. Roman Anthony's just homework. Roman, he's back. Roman Anthony's back. Breaking news. Breaking news, Roman Anthony is back. 370. trying to watch and record. I'm gonna take Babe Ruth. Thank you for fucking spoiling my pick, you fucking asshole. whoever spoiled whoever, I don't know which one of you said Babe Ruth. Like go ahead and take him. Yeah, you fucking asshole. He insinuated, he insinuated Babe Ruth.
He didn't actually say it. John said it. John ruined my pick. He ruined Can I talk some shit on my own father just real quick? Yeah, you can talk shit on your own dad. That Cal Ripkin Jr. is the most overrated baseball player of all time, and that no one would care about him if he didn't have the Iron Man record. I grew up my whole Eight silver sluggers. I grew up my whole life believing that. The man had like three of the greatest shortstop seasons of all time based on war and just all around talent.
I'm just gonna go with like the very like the the top awards that like come up on his baseball reference page. Like the you know, just like the very top you don't even have to look at the actual statistics. Eight silver sluggers, two gold gloves, eighty two rookie of the year, two MVPs, nineteen all stars, and an eighty three World Series champion. I mean, and and the all stars, like that was when it felt like it mattered a lot more being an all star back then.
So being a nineteen time all star? Do you remember when so that Cal Ripkin could play shortstop? Huh? It broke my heart. It was in the All Star game when Jeter flipped with him, so that Kyle Ripkin could play shortstop in the All Star game one more time. So they got Arod. Yeah. You're not moving Jeter off shortstop. Alex, can you take so you took Babe Ruth? Yeah, I'm taking Babe Ruth. He's the Sultan of SWAT. He is the I mean, he is baseball.
Like when the general public thinks of baseball, who do they think of? Babe Ruth. Shoheote.
Mickey Gasper. Mickey Gasper, I'll give you Mickey Gasper. but I'm going babe Ruth. and then I don't know if I want to go with an old guy or a young guy. Like old guy I mean he's already dead and he was very old for he's been old for a very long time. I think I know what you're talking about. Wow, that was deep. There's also another guy who is currently active as an athlete.
And I feel like his his shut the fuck up, John. C stop it. You're not fucking Brad Pitt and Moneyball.
I'm gonna go Alkaline. K-line. K-line. Gonna be honest, didn't even have him my list. he was in my top six. He's Mr. Tiger. I'm chilling. Yeah. Yeah, I got one of his rookie cards somewhere. So does that mean it's my phone I'm calling him Alkaline. Does that mean it's my pick? Finally. yes. We don't want to go K line at all? Alkaline. I want to make my pick.
ten time gold glover, fine. John can make his fucking pick and ruin everything.
Nineteen sixty eight World Series champion.
I believe he played for the Royals for a season at the end of his career and stole a base. I I want to mix up the sports a little bit because knowing me, if I if I go with my own picks, I'm gonna pick all baseball. Can I get arguably is he gonna do it? Arguably Don't do it. This is gonna be my pick. Pete Sampras, thirteen time grand slam winner, seven time Wimbledon champion.
The greatest male tennis player of his era. right there with some of the modern greats, with Federer, with Nadal, with Djokovic. I'm taking Peter Sampras. He was ranked number one in the world for five and a half years in the nineties. Yeah. That was going to be my pick that I really wanted to fall to me. And I'm very pissed that you went outside of your your comfort zone there. Yeah.
I went to a t I saw an Adal play one time. It was electric. I won't watch tennis on TV, but in person, it is unbelievable how they can move around the court and track a ball that's moving like a million miles an hour.
All right, it's me. Yeah. All right. My easy pick here is Jimmy Fox. I'll go Jimmy Fox with a six. Three time MVP, 534 home runs, Hall of Famer. I mean, that that's kind of easy. I probably would have taken him over K-line, but you can't go wrong with either of them. My second pick, I'm a little interested with because I think this is kind of where it falls off. I think we are out of Hall of Famers, at least in the I've got one more in the big four sports.
I think this is gonna be a reach, but currently he's one of the best boxers to do it right now. Fuck you, Caleb. I'm going Travis. I'm going tank Davis. Caleb is officially bad guy. Bad guy. Bad guy. Hold on. I had a different boxer in mind actually. Would you let him would you let him take your girlfriend out to dinner?
As a friend. Bad guy. Bad guy. Yes. Okay. But but he's 31 years old. He has not lost. He's 30 and 1. And 28 of those 30 wins are by knockout. He's a four time featherweight champion. Including is including a woman, by the way, at knockout. I'm talking strictly sports. Bad guy. I'm I'm still gonna take Jramonta Davis.
I've got another goat. I've got another goat of a sport on my list and I'm taking it. you're going. I know where you're going. What whether it be stunts, whether it be rally cars, whether it be motocross, Travis Pastrana, is he the greatest extreme sports athlete of all time?
Is he at least the most well known? Tony Hawk. To I yeah, Tony Hawk counts, but Pastrana has done across multiple extreme sports. I mean, the dude could flip a snowmobile if he wanted to. He can rally car, whatever it's called, rally carring. jumped out of an airplane without a parachute. Travis Pastrana in my three. I can't believe he fell. That's I was debating between him and Germanza.
you probably could have gotten Javonta Davis as your fifth pick 'cause I'm not taking a woman beater, so
Hey, there could be one coming up here. Maybe one we don't know of. No, there's there's one we know of.
I just I just wanna pull this guy's stat page up real quick here. Okay. Okay. I'm gonna take Lefty Grove.
Lefty Grove, you know. Yeah. He is from Lona Coning, Maryland. 106.8 war, Hall of Famer, MVP, two time triple triple crown winner, six time All Star, two time World Series champion. He was swinging that thing seventy four miles an MVP. MVP. yes, an MVP. He did win an MVP. Nine time ERA title, Lefty Grove. Nobody believes he was throwing a hundred plus.
Nobody's Javante Davis if I had Do they give us a a speed or a velocity? No shot here. No shot. Hold on, let's look up lefty grove velocity. They say it was throwing one eight, by the way. No. No fucking way. Bob Feller was throwing like ninety one in the in the forties. There's no way. So ninety two to n wait, no, that's that's
That might be accurate, honestly. If he was the hardest thrower in the league at that point, ninety two is probably close to it. nobody really knows. Blah blah blah. Of course nobody knows. It's like Wilt Chamberlain.
Alright, whatever. my next pick
and he is a yeah, John, you won't like him. I think specifically John won't like him. Caleb probably won't like him either. And at this point I've just been so fucked by the by the internet not telling me the thing. I'm going Mark DeShera.
Mark DeShera. three-time All-Star. Still Republican sat in there. World Series champion. Five-time gold glover, three-time silver slogan. He is actually not, he hasn't been elected yet. He won the primary. But I I think he might be running unopposed in Texas. I know he's running in Texas. but yeah, Mark DeShera, I mean, I hate Mark Dechera. Tor he's tortured the Red Sox at times. So I hate Mark Dexera. Yeah. John's up next. Austin has that places.
Wait. No, you're gonna take You're gonna take it. Savon? No Savon Austin. No.
I got the mixtape pulled up. We're back in the day, you and your boys, you're having a sleepover. What are you throwing on YouTube to get hyped? The Tavon Austin mixtape. Give me the goat of YouTube highlights. How did he not make it in the NFL? I don't know. Based on his highlights, he's the greatest of all time. Tavon Austin at my four. I am smoking you guys. You just took a YouTube video with your.
Yeah, the greatest YouTube video of all time. Zero thousand yard receiving seasons and I don't care. I don't care.
Caleb, take your picks. 'Cause I've got one more in the bag.
I'm I'm just gonna have a team of bad people, aren't I? Yeah. Yeah, I I might be seen differently by the viewers after this draft, but I'm gonna go Stefan Diggs. again. Again, not a great guy. Let that be clear. I gotta be It seems to me like you don't care. Ron Tavis and Stefan Diggs, not great dudes. I feel like there's a few people out there that are better than him career wise.
Stefan Diggs, four time pro bowler, eleven thousand yards, seven out of his eleven seasons have been a thousand yards plus. Is he is he a hall of famer? No. I don't think that's what I'm thinking. No. I don't think he's a Hall of Famer. I d I don't have any Hall of Famers really left on my list. I I might have missed some guys in my research, but I don't know. He's not done yet. Hopefully he's done with the off the field stuff, but
Did he get signed? Yeah, commanders.
Yeah, he's in Maryland. He's home. He's back home. Well, no, Maryland. DC's not Maryland, but in County. No, it's in Landover, Maryland. That's where the stadium is. Never been. All right. I have so many directions I can go. I have so many directions. I two picks. I get two picks. Yeah, he gets two picks. He's got he's got another one. He's got another one. He's not taking my pick. He's got another pick. I'm I'm probably gonna lose the draft with this pick, but I I like this over my other options that I've done in my research.
I will go with an offensive rookie of the year, twenty seventeen offensive player of the year, two-time Russian touchdown leader. I'll go Todd Gurley, who famously squirted Alex in the face. Yeah, you got squirted, dude. God damn it. This is tough. You could have made my decision a lot easier. Are you gonna make me take the guy that I don't want to take? Am I gonna be stuck with that guy? Well, the I'm going between a and a gal.
You know what? I might be the only one with a with a woman on my board. I'm gonna take Dominique Dawes, four-time Olympic gold medalist, or four-time medalist, one gold medal in women's gymnastics, the first black woman to win a gymnastics gold. I mean, four gold medal or four medals, nothing to sneeze at. Snow Phelps. But she won't live up to Simone Biles. Getting them. Well, did she lay the groundwork for Simone Biles?
Did Simone Biles a little girl? Simone Biles did it on her own. Yeah, well. Are you fucking serious? What are you trying to say? What do you mean, what am I trying to say? Trying to say. Did she did she like help her do anything? No, she's an inspiration, a black gymnast all over the world. But did she help her do anything? No. Probably. Probably spiritually, yeah. I don't think she's probably there with her.
Go ahead and pick Robert Ory or Muggsy Boges. I I would've gone Muggsy over Robert. That's that was the guy I was gonna look up to make sure that he was actually born here. so I'm just gonna triple check to make sure this guy was actually born here because I'll take Muggsy Boggs. Mugsy and Muggsy and Ori are both from Maryland. They're both safe. See me and Caleb Ori checked over. Baltimore, okay. I'm gonna take Muggsy Bogues. Muggsy Bogues. Is he how tall is he? He's five three. Five three. Is the shortest?
all time. Unless there was some medieval shit going on. What's FUD website?
Five six. So yeah, Muggsy's the short. Yeah, it's a Muggsy Boggs. I'm taking the shortest NBA player of all time. I would say he overcame I'm not gonna say that. I'm not gonna say that. I'll say it offline. but being five three and playing in the NBA, that I mean that's overcoming a lot of barriers. You said that in the chat.
Said Muggsy Boggs had a harder time than Jackie Robinson? Not not Jackie Robinson. You said no, you said it in the chat. No, that's not what I said. That's not what I said. okay.
Okay, all right, Caleb, Michael Phelps, Jimmy Fox, Tank Davis, the abuser, Stephon Diggs, and Todd Gurley. That those those two those two the the Tank Davis Stephon Diggs picks are tough. We've got a controversial squad, but we're rolling with it. John, Cal Ripkin, Pete Sampras, Travis Pastrana, Tavon Austin, and Dominique Dawes.
And me, Babe Ruth, Al K Line, Lefty Grove, Mark Tashera, and Muggsy Bogues. All right, well, that's a great way to end the segment.
