Alright, welcome back episode 242 or it might be 243. I can never remember. I always get it wrong of chaotically intolerant. We have a big episode today. We are covering week two of the NFL. very weird week. we have Red Sox Yankees best moments, snake draft. we also will have the Red Sox Yankees wild card preview because that's definitely happening. I mean,
Mathematically, right boys. I think it's pretty likely the Red Sox might suck right now and they might lose out but it's gonna be really hard for them to still drop to that final spot We also have excuse our opinion. We have We have John on the show very exciting. He's been bleeding out in the pre-show But before we get in yeah, he could have died that would have been kind of funny. I didn't have it on record
speaker-1 (00:54)
Do you want me to fake die for the for for the clickbait?
speaker-0 (00:58)
No, real die. Real die. Okay, I'll try. All right, but before we get into any of that, make sure to like, comment, subscribe, go check out Spring Hill Sports Cards on YouTube and TikTok. Go check out ChaoticallyIntolerant.com, check out the store. We have some pretty great merch that the guys will be repping soon. Go check out Draft America and let's go.
So boys, open topic of the day. John, what's up? What you got for us?
speaker-1 (01:48)
I just want to real quick touch on where does PCA's 2026 fall in terms of like the great modern seasons? Because he's at 9.8 war right now. He's a lot for the MVP. If you look at the all-time war leaders, the only current guys that are ahead of him in terms of like their best season is Trout, Mookie, and Judge. And with a few games left, he will almost certainly go over 10 war for the year.
If you look at the all-time list, a lot of them are like Nap LaJoy, Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, some of the old timey guys. So if you look at like my lifetime, which is of course a little longer than you guys' lifetime, it's like so hu
speaker-0 (02:29)
You're
unk dude, you're so unk.
speaker-1 (02:31)
I'm
so unk I'm thirty four. Like Ripkin Bond
speaker-0 (02:35)
my god.
speaker-1 (02:37)
Trout, Mookie, Bryce Harper. So where does PCA when we look back in like twenty years on the greatest seasons we remember? Where will PCA fall on this forty forty season?
Gail. I mean, if you're accounting defense, it's one of the best, probably in the at least the twenty first century. I mean, you see the comparisons with Acunya's twenty twenty three season, it's forty-seven a year. I I mean the offensive numbers are better for Acunya, but if you take into account PCA's defense, I mean he's had probably the best defensive season in terms of metrics.
I I don't have it in front of me right now, but I know his his OAA and his his DRS are both like the highest we've seen from a center fielder since like Kevin Kiermeyer, maybe in w in one or two years. But this I think is up there w in terms of twenty first century, like by far. Forty forty season with that kind of defense is it more we might not see it for another
Maybe twenty, thirty years. Who knows? Yeah. If ever. I would like to look at like Trout's defensive metrics from some of his seasons where he went over ten war and see where he felt 'cause Trout was always a solid defender, never among the best in the league by any means.
If someone wants to talk for a minute, I can pull them out. Alex, pause here.
Alex, pause the recording here. So when you're editing you know to pause the recording. I'll hold it
speaker-0 (04:17)
While he's doing that, I have the Thursday Night Football pregame on and they just showed one of the craziest animations. Like just stupid. It was like a transformer for each team. Kind of a transformer, kinda not. And it was like a Falcon thing for the Falcons and it was a Green Bay Packers robot. Just fucking weird. I don't know. was like, you're doing too much.
You're doing way too much. No, they just kind of stood there the Falcon like landed in a superhero pose and just stood there like straight like a soldier And that's what that's why my face like my mouth just kind of opened I was like what the fuck is going on here really?
speaker-1 (05:00)
They were trying.
speaker-0 (05:01)
No, but but sunday night football did use ai when they did the andrew luck graphic that they that they have to do on every sunday night football broadcast We have to do an andrew luck. How many quarterbacks have we got there since andrew luck retired? Fuck you. Fuck you sunday night football. Fuck all the nfl for doing that. Stop doing that to me. Don't do that to me Wait, i've seen Fuck up john shut up shut up I don't need to see it again
I don't need to see it again. And they used AI to generate all the fucking graphics. It's literally the AI style of animation on the Andrew Luck thing. I don't want to see Andrew Luck in AI. I never want to see that man in AI.
speaker-1 (05:44)
Caleb, didn't you text me earlier and say your open topic tonight was how many quarterbacks the Colts have been through since Andrew Luck? Yeah, I think I just really wanted to talk about Anthony Richardson.
speaker-0 (05:56)
I hate the Colts. I genuinely, hate them watching the game on Sunday night. I hated them. Caleb, you can jump in with whatever you're looking up whenever you want, but I hate them as a team. I just, want them to get on the plane and fly to Africa and get off and just never come back into the United States. Just redo the entire team, redo the roster. I'm sick of watching this. I hate them. They ruined my Sunday every week. Every week they ruined my Sunday.
The Laquan Treadwell thing, I was like, I think I might jump off a bridge. I might just walk down East Baltimore at 3 a.m. So I don't have to deal with watching the Colts anymore, because I'll just die and I'll never have to watch them again.
speaker-1 (06:40)
What you would die.
speaker-0 (06:41)
Caleb, do you have something?
speaker-1 (06:42)
You
could become a f you could become a Patriots fan.
speaker-0 (06:45)
No, I'd rather kill myself as well.
speaker-1 (06:48)
Yeah, we've only been through four quarterbacks in the last twenty five years. Yeah. Five if you count Bailey's happy. But I was looking at Trout's defense.
speaker-0 (06:58)
We
do.
speaker-1 (06:59)
I was looking at Trout's defensive metrics. His rookie year, he did have twenty-one defensive runs saved, which to put in comparison, PCA had sixteen this year. But outside of that season, Trout has not had anything close to PCA's defensive run saved this year, especially not in his MVP years. Trout was actually Trout was putting up ten more seasons in his MVP years with a negative defense defensive run saved.
So this is a monster offensively. Yeah, that that's the kind of where his focus went. But early in his career's first couple of years, it was all defense and speed. And you know, you had the luxury of his bat too. But in terms of putting a complete season together of war, D R S, the offensive statistics, stolen bases, nothing Trout has done
i is coming close to what I'm seeing for PCA this year. Yeah. I don't 'cause Trout's never had a forty forty as far as I know, unless I'm completely missing something, but No. Yeah, a forty forty season with sixteen defensive runs saves is absolutely ridiculous. I'd curious to know if how what the next closest forty forty season is in terms of defensive metrics, but I don't think anyone's coming close to PCA or anyway.
Maybe early Bonds. Bonds had some good defensive years. Yeah. But he wasn't popping maybe he was popping. Well, I mean PCA's at forty five or forty. He had a forty four he had a forty four bonds had a forty four year. I think he was the second one after Kinseco. Okay.
I don't know how how strong the defensive metrics are in that era, but be interesting to know. Interesting to see. Caleb, what's your open topic?
I did not come in with one.
speaker-0 (08:53)
We want
to watch the the graphic from Sunday Night Football. know John didn't see it.
speaker-1 (08:58)
I wanna see it.
speaker-0 (09:00)
Here.
speaker-1 (09:03)
I mean I'll I'll I'll f I'll throw something in real quick if we want. yeah, we'll go this way.
speaker-0 (09:08)
We'll do yours after this.
speaker-1 (09:09)
Just
speaker-0 (09:10)
What the fuck is this?
speaker-1 (09:13)
Why
is he holding why is he holding four leaf clovers?
speaker-0 (09:16)
All of their, like the animation doesn't even make sense too. There's like certain like AI-isms in it.
speaker-1 (09:22)
What was the point of the of the lucky clovers?
speaker-0 (09:25)
Out of luck.
speaker-1 (09:26)
'cause he's lucky. Dude, they put that in AI and AI is like fucking Saint Patrick's Day for
speaker-0 (09:31)
Sure. Andrew Luck, yeah, they put that in AI. The NFL and NBC who makes like a billion dollars every year. The NFL, which if you buy the Sunday ticket at full price, it's like $679. That's insane for a regular person to buy. I've found a way around it, but.
speaker-1 (09:50)
And you shouldn't you shouldn't ever find someone who is a college student and use their student ID to buy your NFL season ticket at eighty percent off. You shouldn't do that.
speaker-0 (10:01)
$119.99 a year.
speaker-1 (10:04)
do
it. Yeah, definitely don't that.
speaker-0 (10:07)
Don't do that. That's that's disrespectful to Roger Goodell, the good people at the NFL and Roger Goodell. Caleb. Caleb's topic is going to be how I pirate the NFL.
speaker-1 (10:20)
Caleb, what's your favorite way to pirate? My open topic is Alex is a piece of shit. no. my my thing's just quick. Like that foul ball that Alex Bregman took in the face. Yeah. my god. Like that that's that's I it's a check swing foul ball and he just wore it. Like th the picture that he posted on his Instagram story was disgusting. I'm
speaker-0 (10:47)
How long?
speaker-1 (10:47)
What
are the odds I was just gonna ask the same question. Go ahead.
speaker-0 (10:52)
long before the earth Major League Baseball not the NFL Major League Baseball puts in a like cage on the field for the on deck circle because of this
speaker-1 (11:03)
We've seen the netting the netting down the lines. And that I wouldn't be surprised if they found something to do, just throwing something in front of the on deck circle, because that was that was honestly terrifying to watch. I'm not a big Bragman guy anymore, but that that was tough to watch. And the pictures afterwards that
speaker-0 (11:23)
It was horrible.
speaker-1 (11:24)
His eye
was completely closed. He's not out for the wild card series yet, which is crazy.
speaker-0 (11:32)
That.
speaker-1 (11:33)
I saw him coming into the into the clubhouse today with his eye is open enough so that he can see out of it. It's super bruised up and swollen, but he can see out of his eye. That could blind you.
speaker-0 (11:46)
Yeah.
speaker-1 (11:46)
Yeah it ruined Tony Canigaliera's career. Was that Pete Rose sliding into him at home piece of shit in the all-star game?
speaker-0 (11:54)
No. Tony
speaker-1 (11:55)
Ray Fossey.
speaker-0 (11:57)
Conigliere wore one in the face.
speaker-1 (12:00)
He took a fastball
to the face, was not the same again, but he was as a rookie, I think he was like a thirty homer, three thirty average kind of guy.
speaker-0 (12:08)
He was supposed to be like the next big guy. Yeah. In what the 60s? Was that the 60s?
speaker-1 (12:14)
Thinks around that era. Yeah, he was in Fever Pitch. They talked about that in Fever Pitch. Calor Alex loves that movie.
speaker-0 (12:20)
I do.
speaker-1 (12:23)
You love fever pitch.
speaker-0 (12:24)
I love fever pitch. I love fever pitch. like that. I like rom-coms. Well, I brought up the Colts thing, the Andrew Watt thing. I wanted to say that the, you know, Major League Baseball is gonna like find something to, you know, they're gonna remedy the situation. It's not a situation. How many times does this happen in Major League Baseball?
like how many times have we seen that happen? ever happened? this happened so it's just a freak accident we don't need like a solution this is not a problem there's it happened it sucks obviously that's horrible that that happened to Alex Bregman it's not a problem that is meeting
speaker-1 (13:11)
Was he wearing his helmet when the ball hit him? He was, but it caught him flush right here. Yeah.
speaker-2 (13:14)
Yeah, yeah.
speaker-1 (13:16)
I noticed the
speaker-0 (13:17)
Again.
speaker-2 (13:17)
Yeah.
speaker-1 (13:18)
on deck circle was like further back towards than I used to.
speaker-0 (13:24)
They definitely move the on deck circle sometimes.
speaker-1 (13:27)
He was in front of where it's supposed to be. He was in the grass. Usually you see the ondex circle like in the warning track by the dugout. But you I think in the clip he was in the grass. Not that it was probably would have made a difference. Stand in the designated space. It's for your own safety.
speaker-0 (13:43)
I'm just saying we don't need they don't need to put up a net or like a swinging area or anything This is just like a freak thing that happened and we move on and we say that really sucks proud Is
speaker-1 (13:54)
Guys are going soft these days.
speaker-0 (13:56)
get get get better Alex Brigham
speaker-1 (13:59)
When
we put nets in front of the pitchers now too.
speaker-0 (14:01)
yeah, they're gonna do that. They do that in men's league softball.
speaker-1 (14:05)
Some hands
like softballs that have like the little skates in front of Well it's a rule if you hit one right back of the pitcher you're out. So guys try to pull it as far to the to one side as they can.
speaker-0 (14:17)
Men's league softball might be some of the worst.
speaker-1 (14:20)
So I got invited to one, I was like no.
speaker-0 (14:22)
The
clips of men's league softball, like the guys that wear the crazy uniforms and all that stuff. They're some of the worst people I've ever met or I've ever seen. And I want to, I actually kind of want to meet them. want to pick their brain.
speaker-1 (14:34)
I don't Can you give me some tips on my swing?
speaker-0 (14:37)
What no I want to pick their brain on like how do you get here to this to this era where you're taking men's league softball as seriously as a major league baseball player like they're showing up with pine tar for like the metal bats and they're taking BP on their off days.
speaker-1 (14:55)
can
you teach me how to be a tryhard in a sport that people drink beer while playing? Yeah. We would I got into a a co ed league with a bunch of people I met at one of the bars I worked at, and there were teams that would show up like two and a half hours early, they'd warm up, they'd be in the cage. I'm like, Dog, if you win this league, nothing happens. There's that there's no World Series multi million dollar bonuses. You're missing a lot of time with your family to be here on like on purpose.
You freaking losers.
speaker-0 (15:25)
the kids just wouldn't understand though. Yeah. They just wouldn't.
speaker-1 (15:29)
My life. This is my life.
speaker-0 (15:31)
Yeah. When they're older, they would understand. They'll look back at pictures of their dad in the, in his neon and his hot pink and neon green Jersey.
speaker-1 (15:42)
With his knee high socks.
Stir ups. You need
speaker-0 (15:45)
He's got the spuros.
All right, well, let's move on to the next segment. NFL week two is in the books. It was a completely different week it felt like than week one. A lot of points were scored week one. It felt like we had a lot of just stinkers of games this week. Fantasy points were at an all time low. If you play fantasy, maybe not an all time low, but they were pretty low. My team got just absolutely killed. If you have Kyle Pitts, just.
Kill yourself now, I have Kyle Pitts. I felt forced into taking him because I needed a tight end and he was sitting there and I was like, fuck. Maybe I should just take Kyle Pitts. Maybe this year he'll be good because every year he's gotten more touchdowns than the year prior. So I was like, this will be all right. I also remembered that game they had in Tampa last year where he scored like three touchdowns and I was like, you can just do that every week, right? Clearly not. He's gotten me two and a half points in two weeks. So it's been pretty bad. But let's start.
Actually, yeah, let's start with Atlanta. Let's start with the Thursday Night Football, one of the teams on Thursday Night Football this week. Carolina, Atlanta, not much here. Atlanta's just... Atlanta's stinky. That is the best way to describe them. They're just stinky. They stink to watch. They suck. I was happy to get a Jack Strand sighting in this game, though. Get Cooper Rush out of there, just really not good. But... Just bad. And Carolina, this is the first time...
in a very long time that they have opened and closed as favorites and won the game and covered. It's been like five years since they've done that pretty crazy that that they've gone that long since doing that. That's not an official stat. That is, that is more of a chaotically intolerant stat, not an official stat. but Bryce young looked great. He was amazing Carolina, like all around win for them today. Devin Lloyd nine tackles a sack.
three passes defended, two tackles for loss and two picks including a pick six. Just felt like a career day from everybody on the Banthers and the Falcons all time low vibes. They stink. I don't even know if they'll win a game. Even with Michael Penick's coming back. I don't even know if they'll be able to win a game. And I know Bajon Robinson is there. I know Kyle Pitts is there. I know Drake London is there, but it still just feels like they can't win a football game.
speaker-2 (18:09)
Playing it on Super Bowl fifty one, I guess. It's been ten years now. well, we both picked one of our surprise teams in the NFC to be out of the South, and Carolina was mine, and it looked really bad in week one. But Bryce Young has played really well in weeks one and two. So he continues that. And the defense, okay, granted, you know, they gave up fifty-nine to a team that scored three this week in the Bears, but they go from giving up fifty-nine to giving up three. So
They did flick something defensively. and yeah, I mean they got a beat look. More than anything, I think fans wanted to see Bryce Young take strides, you know, here what is this year four for him now. So, you know, h him continuing to play well. They get the Browns this week. I know the Browns just won, but that's a a game where if the Panthers are gonna, you know, start to consider themselves contenders, you have to win that one. So yeah, Bryce Young played really well, balanced day, receivers.
McMillan and Coker combined thirteen for one sixty seven. You know, Leggett had a fifty five yard reception. So there's some encouraging signs there for Carolina. And yeah, Atlanta's just I don't wanna talk about them. They suck.
speaker-0 (19:20)
stinky definition of stinky Yeah, I mean I think like the Chicago game I felt like it was actually a sign of good things to come offense does really well defense, what are you gonna do and then You know winning games that you should that's what good teams do. They win games that they should they should have won this game They should have won it by a lot and that's exactly what they did Minnesota and Chicago
Kayla Williams all time or a loss with the hamstring. Listen, I'm not going to act like pulling your hamstrings by any means. does suck. But when you get carted off the field and it looks like you have tears in your eyes and you're throwing your fist up like this.
You better have something a little worse. But again, tearing your hamstring, not fun. Any time for the Bears without Caleb Williams is bad time. Like that's just, that's not good for them. They need Caleb Williams. Caleb Williams is the future in Chicago. So I completely understand it, but Caleb Williams definitely, he made a moment out of it. He definitely made a moment. Now when you come back, make sure that they understand why you made such a moment out
Because if you come back and they look like world beaters again, everyone forgets about it and they're like, whatever. Like he made a moment out of it because he knew he was important to the Bears. It is that deep for some, for the Bears. He could be the best quarterback in franchise history. Not that there's a lot of competition. But I really just want to talk about Brian Flores' defense in Carson Wentz. Holy shit, Brian Flores. This guy's a wizard, first off. Just a complete and utter wizard.
And Carson Wentz, I think he's redeemed. It's two weeks in, but Carson Wentz is redeemed.
speaker-2 (21:12)
I think so. I mean, but the Vikings, they do this all the time. Enough to cause problems for other teams, but ultimately cause problems for their fans by not winning a championship. So yeah, full look, it's so weird. The Panthers go from giving up fifty-nine and giving up three. The Bears go from scoring fifty-nine to scoring three. Things can change very fast in the NFL. but you're right. Seeing the Bears suddenly without Williams and seeing Tyson Bajant trying to
Cracked the goal line there at the end. I mean it was an ugly game, but again, credit to Minnesota's defense. They're two and with two division wins to start the year. So that's about as good as you can script it up for a team that lost its starting quarterback in week one. Although I know a lot of people aren't sold on said starting quarterback. Just keep rolling, just go with the hot hand right now. Go with Carson Wentz. Why not?
speaker-0 (22:06)
Yeah, I have a question for more for Bears fans if Tyson Bajan You know drives the Bears down the field and they win the game because he was you know That was a game-winning drive. They were on their way down If he drives down the field and they win the game Does the Caleb Williams leg injury? Feel a little different Does because they do have a lot of confidence in Tyson Bajan Excuse me. They do have a lot of confidence in Tyson Bajan
They signed him to an extension a year ago. He's clearly going to be the backup there You know, I mean but again when you lose Caleb Williams, it's always a big deal You're losing your starter is always a big deal. But if he drives down there and wins and you're 2-0 now I'm I think it might feel a little bit different. You might feel like okay, we can tread water here. We definitely can tread water
And the weather has a factor too, because the weather was shitty in Chicago. It was raining and cold. That's why it was 6 to 3, most likely. I definitely feel like it's a little bit more over-com-able, the injury. You know, if you lose him for four weeks. You know, let's assume Caleb is out for four weeks. What do you think?
speaker-2 (23:22)
Well, to guess the injury or whether the
speaker-0 (23:24)
No, no, does the injury feel different if they win?
speaker-2 (23:28)
Yeah. Yes, but I think people would still be like, Well, we can't go ten points every week. It'd still be hard to overlook. I mean, if somehow they exploded offensively with Tyson Bajent, it would. But no, not not too much. I mean, but now obviously the Bears it's like now they do have to tread water, right? You just scored three points. You better figure out a way to get your offense going next week.
speaker-0 (23:53)
That 56 point drop from week one to week two is the second largest drop in NFL history. Do you know who the first is?
speaker-2 (24:02)
I don't know. Off the top of my head I started thinking about the Jags when they won sixty two seven and then lost the AFC championship game thirty three to fourteen, but that would only be forty eight points. So Patriots? Fifty nine nothing? I don't know.
speaker-0 (24:14)
No, 1973 Falcons
speaker-2 (24:18)
Wow.
speaker-0 (24:18)
won 62 to 7 week one and then they were shut out in week two.
speaker-2 (24:23)
Okay. Same
speaker-0 (24:25)
Talk about a-
speaker-2 (24:26)
score as that. Yeah, same score as the it was the last game Dan Marino ever played. Sixty two to seven. Jags over the Dolphins. Ninety nine AFC divisional round.
speaker-0 (24:36)
Sorry, Dan. To New England, Pittsburgh and New England, I just have to say Aaron Rodgers is so old. He's so old. The Steelers are stinky too. They stink. They're just not good. Like, DK Metcalf is bad. Aaron Rodgers is old and sorry, Flock Rodgers. Didn't mean to call him by his real name. And the Pats weren't even good. Like, they didn't even look very good.
A lot of mistakes, had a pick, there was an opening drive fumble, but the Steelers just stink to high heaven. I mean, three points. Like we knew it when they, they eked out a win against Atlanta. Now, who do they even play this week? I don't even care who they play this week. They're, the Steelers are going to lose. They're going to lose and it's going to be ugly. And Aaron Rodgers got benched. Rodgers got benched at the end of the game. Like it's week two. What are we doing?
speaker-2 (25:33)
I know. No, they they're I love it. I love it because they're not they are bad, but their record won't say that they're bad. They're in they're approaching Miami Dolphins territory as far as this rut of mediocrity and it and it makes me happier than if they just suddenly became the Browns. yeah. I it's that they're just they're so I d I don't know how they they Mike Tomlin must be the greatest coach of all time.
To continually get eight or nine wins out of this garbage team. So, yeah. But I was looking at the other side and just thinking that New England really needed this too. Like they really needed to bounce back. It wasn't pretty for them either. Like, you know, may didn't throw a touchdown, but they they were balanced as far as running the ball. They actually got a lot of yards from Romeo Dobbs. like they did what they needed to do.
speaker-0 (26:29)
Yeah.
speaker-2 (26:29)
And
speaker-0 (26:30)
And there was, yeah, there was a lot of chunk plays too. A lot of chunk plays, which I think, you know, considering week one and even the Superbowl, just getting, getting some sort of confidence in the offense probably feels good, you know, and going into week three. Again, it is week two. Right. is week two.
speaker-2 (26:51)
And consider this. If you go back to the last three games New England has had played going in, thirteen points I'm sorry, ten points in the championship game last year, thirteen in the Super Bowl, thirteen opening n or a ten opening night. So like Drake May hasn't cracked twenty points since the divisional round against Houston, and even that was you know, led by a lot of interceptions on defense. So yeah, there's still a lot of question marks about the Patriots offense, but they needed this just to
kind of settle the nerves of like, well, we people are doubting us and if we start owing two, but you know, one and one feels a lot different.
speaker-0 (27:27)
Yes, very different. Green Bay and the Jets. To be honest, I don't even really want to talk about this game. These teams stink, too. They really do. It was a close game, but it was an ugly game.
speaker-2 (27:43)
And and proud of the Jets for kind of at least almost making us believe they were going to be 2-0. They covered the spread. Yeah, I mean, it wasn't like the Jets, well, they gave up the lead and they couldn't obviously come through when they really needed to, but it wasn't at least through two games, the Jets don't feel like bad, bad. They almost feel like what the Steelers are. Like at least like
And and think of the narratives. Like people in Pittsburgh hate what they're seeing from the Steelers, even though they're like kind of mid. If the Jets played like this all year and won seven games, Jet fans would have a parade. Be like the Knicks. Come on. Right this way. They would, they would. Yeah. This is all about right now, just how how the Packers are lucky to get out of there one.
speaker-0 (28:32)
I have some, if you want to feel good, you're a Jets fan and it really felt bad, you know, to lose that game, blowing a 10 point fourth quarter league lead, I have some Green Bay Packer insult stats for you. The Packers were one of nine on first down. 14 penalties. They picked up at least one first down on only four of 12 drives in this game. A complete
ugly shitfest from the Packers. The Jets just couldn't do it for for 4-core.
speaker-2 (29:09)
yeah. Ugly, ugly game. This had
speaker-0 (29:12)
Even the stadium. Because, you know, you're not at Lambeau, you're at MetLife. what a complete... You know, like a completely, just a crazy comparison of Lambeau Field, just like the Mecca of football. And... Met...
speaker-2 (29:29)
Yeah.
speaker-0 (29:39)
I did
not. I did not have that.
speaker-3 (29:41)
Wow.
speaker-2 (29:41)
If you
look it 'cause like let's say last year, the Packers or last few years or f forever, the if you saw a game like this you'd say, Boy, the Packers they probably outplayed him and just made a few mistakes and they were you know, Jets were lucky to hang in this game. No no no, this was more the opposite. Like the Packers played really badly. Like the Jets actually for the most part looked like the better team. But they Jets did. I don't know. They Jets did.
speaker-0 (30:06)
floor's
hot seat has to be warming up.
speaker-2 (30:10)
Yeah, even more and more every day. Look and but they they get Atlanta now. They could still be two and one after three weeks and then it's like that at least that band aid at least just gets a little tighter on the yeah. On that open wound, yeah.
L loves it. It's what he if if if it were up to him every game would be that way.
speaker-0 (30:30)
Listen, Deshaun Watson did not look bad. 24-30, 238 and two touchdowns. As much as we hate to say it, really didn't look bad. He keeps his job for another week. I think we were thinking, every Browns fan was thinking this was going to be the game to, you know, get him, make sure he loses his job. But he steps up to the challenge. He really did. I mean, he...
He wasn't Deshaun Watson as advertised when he was signed. That is not Deshaun Watson as advertised, but it was still a lot better. It was more than serviceable. It got the job done. And I'm looking at the stats right now, but he, I mean, he outplayed Baker. He a hundred percent outplayed Baker.
speaker-2 (31:16)
Yeah, that's what surprised me because I thought we talked about Baker revenge game. Baker under two hundred yards, sacked three times. the hot seat is Todd Bowles, or it should be. But I love that Todd Munkin snapped back at Mike Tomlin for his comments. good for Todd Munkin, Ravens O C. You know.
speaker-0 (31:36)
I'm
going to be honest, when they when they go like four and 13, we're going to look back and be like, come on, dude, you're still the Browns. You want to you won a football game that
speaker-2 (31:49)
Yeah yeah.
speaker-0 (31:49)
excited to be that excited over one win. Like, please have a winning record. Then you can then you can say that.
speaker-2 (31:56)
We'll see. We'll see what happens at the end of the year. Well, the the the bad news for the Browns, and the concerning thing is that Watson was also the leading rusher, seven for twenty two. So you're not going to win a lot of games, even if he plays really well, when your starting running back goes twelve for twenty one. So they that that's that's really on the Bucs. And they got production from Denzel Boston with a touchdown, ninety five yards. I just I'm just looking at the Bucs and being like, is this Bucs team actually pretty bad? And they might be.
speaker-0 (32:25)
Yeah, the Bucks, just to show how bad they were, coming out of the delay, it was second and four at the Cleveland 28.
when they were coming out of there. The Bucs were down, I mean they needed a touchdown to win the game. You're telling me you couldn't score a touchdown from the Cleveland 28 on second and four against this Cleveland team? I mean that's piss poor, I'm sorry. I don't know how you let Todd Bowles walk into the locker room after this game. I mean this is, it's especially after the Bucs signed Baker Mayfield to the big extension.
after it had been a whole thing all off season about is Baker going to sign or the Bucks going to sign Baker. And now you're 0-2 and you lose to Cleveland. This is embarrassing. This is completely and utterly embarrassing. Again, especially for a Bucks team that does have a lot of hope. The only reason they have hope now is because they play in the NFC South. That's the only reason because you know that you can be eight and nine and win this division. did it last, the Panthers did it last year.
speaker-2 (33:31)
And the Bucks did it in twenty twenty two, yeah. And so I think this is this is a big problem. They actually had first they had second and four at the thirteen later in that drive. Holding penalty, scramble for three yards, incomplete pass, game over. So yeah, just just you know, I don't know. Can't say it was rust. You know, I mean like I I I just think it's bad football and the Bucks are in trouble. I mean, if they get to O and three, that becomes a
Bigger hole, they got Minnesota, right? That's not who's hot right now, diff hot defensively, so
speaker-1 (34:05)
Yeah.
speaker-0 (34:06)
This was especially like a must win because you get the bangles going, you know, going into the season. You look at the Browns game as this should be right. Not a given because nothing in the NFL is a given, but this should be a given here. If you're a playoff team and you're a serious team. But clearly they're not because this was this was all.
speaker-2 (34:28)
No, Tampa and Green Bay. I'm sorry, Minnesota and Green Bay coming in next. So
speaker-0 (34:32)
And then Dallas after
speaker-2 (34:34)
Dallas, yeah.
speaker-0 (34:35)
Philly, Tennessee, another, just don't, don't talk to me about the Eagles. They, they, this was bad.
speaker-1 (34:43)
Right.
speaker-0 (34:43)
It's Tennessee. Like I, I personally had some, some hope for Tennessee. They didn't look good week one. They hung in there. Again, this is not a team that should have hung around with Philly. That's all I'm saying. And the offensive line is bad. The offensive line is really bad.
speaker-2 (34:58)
And Barkley for the Eagles and four carries, nine yards, like what what is he anymore?
speaker-0 (35:03)
I
he missed most of the first half, I believe, with a stinger. He did come back for the second half.
speaker-2 (35:09)
But I mean, didn't run it. They've squeaked out two wins against bad teams. Now they are two and two and is two and but yeah, there's nothing to me that looks all that impressive about the Eagles. But now in a division where you only you have one of the two healthy quarterbacks. Yeah. Dallas is still Dallas and Philly still can feel good. They get the Bears on Monday night and Tyson Bajan. So they might just, you know, fatten up on those cupcakes right now while they can.
'Cause then they get the Rams in a couple of weeks.
speaker-0 (35:39)
to Denver, Denver, it looked bad. It looked bad for a little while. And then all of a sudden it wasn't bad.
speaker-2 (35:49)
John Payton. Yeah.
speaker-0 (35:50)
Yeah, I mean, I again, this is like, I think this is more feels better for me because I don't believe in the Jaguars. And this was a perfect don't believe in the Jaguars. Denver did not look good last week. So I'm just happy. I'm happy. This just makes me feel better because the Jaguar stick they just
speaker-2 (36:10)
I
think good and good coaches get their teams to dig deep. I mean, this was one that didn't look good for Denver early. They were down ten three at the half, offense doing nothing. But then, you know, Jalen Waddell has a big game. Somebody's got to step up and be that guy for Bo Knicks. They didn't really they didn't run it all that well, you know, under four yards of carry. So yeah, hard to know what to make. I know you're not a believer in the Jags. I'm not saying that I am. But Denver, again, that the yeah, this was like kind of like New England, same thing, right? I think it was the same score.
Or no, that was twenty to three. But same idea where you just and this was a harder game for Denver than I think for New England. and they were embarrassed and they were on a short week. And this is a team in Jacksonville that came into Denver last year and beat them pretty good in a year where Denver was that I think that was their only home loss, or it was one of three losses they had all year. So this was this was this is a big sigh of relief for the Bronx.
speaker-0 (37:01)
Yeah, they got the monkey off their back here. this is big. Jalen Waddle, by the way, eight receptions, 138. Welcome back to the NFL Jalen Waddle. I just feel like I haven't heard his name in a while, like for big stuff.
speaker-2 (37:16)
Denver gets the lands coming in next week, so
speaker-0 (37:19)
Big tests, they needed that, they really needed that, that was a big one for them. Sincy and Houston, the Bengals might have a defense, they might. CJ
speaker-2 (37:30)
I'm sorry.
speaker-0 (37:32)
Stroud, it was CJ Stroud, they stink, but they might have a defense.
speaker-2 (37:36)
How you feel about Jacksonville is basically exactly how I feel about Houston.
speaker-0 (37:40)
I actually feel that way also about you.
speaker-2 (37:43)
Houston.
Yeah, and I feel that way also about Jacksonville for the most part. I just I think they're not gonna win with CJ Stroud, plain and simple. Hey, hats off Dalton Schultz Schultz twelve for one forty. But like Bengals winning ugly, that's a good thing. It's
speaker-0 (37:56)
Yes.
speaker-2 (37:57)
a good thing. I mean Burroughs' numbers were still pretty good. He was sacked five times. You know, the net passing yards were one eighty two. But it's good for the Bengals. They were out first down, twenty two to twelve. Like, yeah, you don't wanna say, let's play bad offensively and see if we can win, but there are gonna be weeks where it doesn't
Go well. This is I I think this is a good way to win for Cincinnati than to just go in a big shootout.
speaker-0 (38:19)
They won, they won in a tight one last week where it was again, it wasn't pretty at times. Right. And then you win, you win a ugly game, but you win it resoundingly. That's the more confidence builder, I think.
speaker-2 (38:35)
Right, a division winner from last year and then the Bucks almost a division winner. So it's not like, well, they were the easiest games, but yeah, two and is two and You got Pittsburgh next. Very well, it could be three and
speaker-0 (38:47)
Yeah. and then, Jamar chase, the way, one of the close to catch of the year, it's going to be at, by the end of the year, it's going to be in the conversation for catch of the year and the front right corner of the end zone. just Joe burrow delivering it on a dime, like right on top of the pile on, and he just sticks the hands up, gets the feet down. No problem. Raiders chargers, Justin Herbert is the if man. we call him the if man because it's always if
He had something different. He would be an elite quarterback. They stink. They stink. The Raiders aren't good. I can guarantee you right now. The Raiders will not win the Super Bowl. They are 2-0. They will not win the Super Bowl. They will not go. They will not go to the Super Bowl. I'm guaranteeing it right now. That's not happening. But the Chargers are that bad.
speaker-2 (39:37)
Chargers are my god, yeah. Well that's just it I don't know, I don't I'm not gonna add anything other than it's just a culture. And being in LA actually makes it worse. I I actually think the culture or whatever around the Chargers just it gets worse having being in a joke of a sports city, being a s play and playing second fiddle to another team. You know what I mean? At least in San Diego, I feel like there's some accountability, there was some connection with the community that the teams used to have.
speaker-0 (40:03)
they loved him in San Diego. Yeah.
speaker-2 (40:05)
Yeah, of course. And and it's
Now they're now they're not even the the primary residents of the Apple store. That's all. But good on the Raiders for being you know, 'cause I don't think I I think if you were like the Raiders might win two games this year, they're already two and So very quietly. The quietest
speaker-0 (40:22)
Probably the chargers probably have to ask permission from the ramps for things like if they want to use if they want to use the fridge or they want to they want to clean out the fridge or like hey just call the Rams make sure the Rams just do it they're like we're cleaning out the fridge if you got shit in there get it out of here
speaker-2 (40:38)
Vegas Saints, interesting game this week. Like
speaker-0 (40:41)
Yeah, we'll pick that one in a few minutes. We're running through these here.
speaker-2 (40:45)
Yeah, yeah. Okay.
speaker-0 (40:48)
Commander's Cowboys, Jane Daniels.
speaker-2 (40:53)
Yeah, rough. It's getting rough for him. I hate to see it. they're going nowhere and Dallas thinks they're good by beating the commanders. Yeah, I don't have much to add. I I think Mariota's a good backup, but he's a backup.
speaker-0 (41:06)
I'm excited for Mariota. I love watching Mariota.
speaker-2 (41:09)
Think
yeah, that there's a lot worse backups out there. I think but again, yeah, tough one.
speaker-0 (41:16)
Seahawks, Cardinals, nothing here. Seahawks, take care of business.
They started the game well. They started the game really well.
speaker-2 (41:26)
Forty carries, Drew Locke was efficient. Man, Seattle may not have missed a beat, I don't know.
speaker-0 (41:31)
Yeah. Dolphins Niners. All I have to say is the Niners are not jet lagged. Yep.
speaker-2 (41:40)
They know how to they know how to set their travel schedule.
speaker-0 (41:43)
Yeah. Colts Chiefs, this was the one. Just Shane Steichen. Get him out. I'm sick of the Shane Steichen thing. I've been saying it for three years. I thought Shane Steichen should have been fired after he trotted Tyler Goodson out with the AFC South on the line a few years ago versus Jonathan Taylor. I mean, how do you send Tyler Goodson out over Jonathan Taylor with your division on the line? It's crazy. But now we're here.
He decides he was running great with Jonathan Taylor on the final drive of regulation and then just decides to throw, I think he threw it two plays in a row and then does the opposite in overtime after the deep Laquan Treadwell catch and non-fumble that was down by contact. Just decides we're actually gonna run it with Jonathan Taylor and then throw a desperation pass. I mean, it's insane to me. Shane Steichen has no situational football.
Awareness the only thing that I was happy with is that they were actually competitive I felt like after the Daniel Jones interception on the second Drive of the game. I was like, okay, it's gonna be like 31 7 Chiefs But no, they really kept in it. I was really happy to see how they fought but again the play calling both at the end of regulation and The first Colts offensive drive of overtime the only Colts offensive drive of overtime
was infuriating, completely infuriating, very difficult to watch, but that's just Colts and Shane Stike in football. And very undisciplined, very undisciplined. And the Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes is back. He looks like he hasn't missed a step. He's better. He looks like he's throwing the ball better than he did last year.
speaker-2 (43:22)
I'm worried.
speaker-0 (43:23)
Very worried. It's going, think the AFC, the AFC championship is going through Kansas city. I think it is. It is, it is, you know, it is, you know, that's
speaker-2 (43:33)
And whether they're home or on the road, I think they'll
speaker-0 (43:35)
In
this game, the Colts didn't even feel like they were getting like quote help from or they didn't feel like in this game that the Chiefs were getting help from the refs. It like they were very much on the Colts side and the Colts still couldn't win this game. It was just infuriating as a Colts fan to watch. Insane. And then Monday Night Football Giants Rams Jackson Dart is done for the year. Yeah, have nothing else. The Rams again took care of business.
speaker-2 (44:04)
Yep, Rams are back. Aaron Donald's back. Yuck, LA, Mookie Betts and Miles Garrett hanging out up in the in the suite at the Apple store. Yeah, I just feel bad for Jackson Dart and for the Giants. That's just tough. Harbaugh comes in, it looks like things are going well. And now you gotta roll with Jameis Winston or maybe they pick up Garoppolo, who knows? But yeah, that was tough.
speaker-0 (44:26)
Yeah, so real quick, Colts first and 10, Jonathan Taylor runs it for six yards at the Indy 43 to the Indy 49. The Colts on second and four pass incomplete. The Colts on third and four pass incomplete. then Rigoberto Sanchez punts before that it went 14 yard pass, six yard run, zero yard run, five yard pass, six yard run. After the incompletion, say you run it there, but
Instead they punt with 34 seconds left then they go to overtime and then the Colts fuck it up down In the red zone in the red zone in the red zone. So really just difficult difficult to watch as a Colts fan, but Do you have time for picks? I can do picks with them We can
speaker-2 (45:11)
Give you the name real quick, yeah. Let's just roll.
speaker-0 (45:13)
rapid fire. Alrighty now we're gonna pick week three Thursday night football It's already happened by the time this is released. But what is your pick for Thursday night? Green Bay minus five and a half
speaker-2 (45:22)
Packers. Well, my line went up from what I saw, so Packers.
speaker-0 (45:27)
Packers minus five and a half, give me that. Chargers bills in Buffalo, Buffalo minus seven.
speaker-2 (45:33)
That feels low. I thought it was gonna be like ten and then I was gonna take the chargers. I'm gonna take the bills.
speaker-0 (45:38)
Bills, bills, bills all day. Bills minus seven, easy. Chargers stink. Panthers Browns, Carolina, only minus two and a half.
speaker-2 (45:49)
man. I don't know, man. I I I'll go with Carolina, but I'm nervous about that one.
speaker-0 (45:54)
Carolina minus two and a half. It's the Browns. I don't trust. I'm not trusting them after one win over a sad Bucks team.
speaker-2 (46:04)
Coke
is questionable. But yeah.
speaker-0 (46:06)
Yeah, Jets, Lions, Detroit minus six and a half at home.
speaker-2 (46:11)
I'll take Detroit.
speaker-0 (46:13)
Yeah, Detroit pretty easy. I think I'm gonna take jets plus six and a half here though. I like them to cover Texans colts houston minus one and a half in india
speaker-3 (46:22)
B.
speaker-2 (46:24)
I'm taking the Colts. Houston's s suck so bad.
speaker-0 (46:28)
This is what the, I'm afraid the Colts peaked on Sunday Night Football because I think that, I think that taking the Chiefs to the last second in overtime bought Chris Ballard and Shane Steichen another five years of job security. No matter what happened, they were just like, look, we did this. So I'm going to take the Texans here and Houston to cover, obviously. Chiefs, Dolphins in Miami, Kansas City, 10 and a half point favorites.
speaker-2 (46:54)
That sounds about right. Yeah, I'll go Kansas City.
speaker-0 (46:57)
Kansas City to cover. Titans, Giants, Giants minus two and a half.
speaker-2 (47:03)
I'm gonna go Tennessee.
speaker-0 (47:05)
Yeah, I like Tennessee to pick up the first win, but Jamus...
speaker-1 (47:08)
Brian Davis.
speaker-0 (47:10)
You never know about Jamus though.
speaker-2 (47:12)
You never know, but short week coming back, dealing with all that. Brian Dable coming back to Giant Stadium from MetLife.
speaker-0 (47:18)
very exciting for him. But I'm gonna go Titans. Bangle Stealer, Sincy, minus three and a half.
speaker-2 (47:26)
Cincy.
speaker-0 (47:27)
The only thing that will keep the Steelers in this game is the defense.
speaker-2 (47:31)
Course.
speaker-0 (47:31)
If the Steelers do find a way to win this game, it will be a 15-13 type of game.
speaker-2 (47:37)
Wouldn't shock me, but I'm gonna go Cincy.
speaker-0 (47:40)
Me too, I'm picking Cincy here. Don't get that twisted, Cincy to cover. Seahawks commander, Seattle minus seven and a half in Washington.
speaker-2 (47:50)
yeah, I'm gonna s I'm gonna take commanders to cover, Seahawks to win.
speaker-0 (47:55)
Yeah, Marcus Mariota.
speaker-1 (47:56)
Yeah.
speaker-0 (47:57)
I feel like first full game, he's gonna have a little something. He's gonna have a little something to play for. So I'm gonna say, yeah, I'll ride with you Seahawks commanders to cover. Patriots Jaguars, Jags are minus three in this one in Jacksonville.
speaker-2 (48:13)
Take New England.
speaker-0 (48:15)
It's gonna be hot, but I'll take New England too. Jags stink. Cardinals 49ers, San Francisco, eight and a half point favorites. That feels big. That feels really big for.
speaker-1 (48:26)
Kobe presentation.
speaker-2 (48:28)
Could see a backdoor cover by Arizona, but I'm still gonna take Niners winning cover.
speaker-0 (48:33)
I'm gonna take Arizona to cover 49ers to win. Vikings, Bucks, Minnesota, only one and a half point favorites here.
speaker-2 (48:41)
Give me Minnesota. Give me Minnesota.
speaker-0 (48:44)
Kind of like, I like a Tampa bounce back. Ugly, gross game, but I like a Tampa bounce back, especially against Carson Wentz. Carson Wentz can't play perfect. He only had one Carson Wentz throw last week. He's gonna, he's got more in the tank. Just stupid Carson Wentz throws. Ravens Cowboys in Rio, the Ravens are three and a half point favorites.
speaker-2 (49:08)
Take the Ravens. Cause I said thirty four twenty seven, so I'll take the Ravens.
speaker-0 (49:13)
We do pick this in the Maryland spotlight, but I'm taking the Cowboys here to win. Raiders Saints, exciting one. Battle of, no, not Battle of Two and O Teams. I thought it was Battle of Two and O Teams. New Orleans, three point home favorites.
speaker-2 (49:27)
This is this is the Saints showing they're for real and the Raiders showing that they're certainly not
speaker-0 (49:33)
I love it. I love it. Saints give me the Saints all day. Saints to cover. Rams Broncos Rams are two and a half point favorites on Sunday night football.
speaker-2 (49:46)
Rams fixed their problems. I'm going with the Rams.
speaker-0 (49:49)
I don't know why, I always feel like this was a Super Bowl matchup.
speaker-2 (49:53)
Should have been.
speaker-0 (49:54)
a past Super Bowl matchup.
speaker-2 (49:56)
No.
speaker-0 (49:57)
It's just, I don't know why something about it is like tells me Super Bowl. I'll take the Rams to Rams to cover in Denver. And then Eagles Bears, Philly four and a half point favorites in Chicago.
speaker-2 (50:11)
Taking the bears.
speaker-0 (50:13)
Kinda like Philly here. Sad Bears fans make it extra sad. Really tough. don't forget to vote on Fat Bear Week as well. It's Fat Bear Week. This is when the bears get all fat. The real bears, not the Chicago Bears. They get all fat for hibernation. And you can vote on who your favorite fat bear is. So go check that out. It's a whole tournament. It's pretty sick.
speaker-2 (50:38)
It'll be Ben Johnson when he gets depressed.
speaker-0 (50:41)
Yeah, you won't want to take that shirt off after four weeks of no Caleb Williams. All righty. Let's move on to the next segment. We have three days left in the MLB regular season and there is still a lot to figure out. We'll start in the American league. The American league East is pretty well settled right now, but we have the AL central. The guardians sit half a game ahead of the Chicago White Sox. So the Chicago White Sox have clinched a playoff spot they are in.
Murakami was going fucking nuts. Did you guys see his clip today?
speaker-1 (51:14)
Not yet.
speaker-0 (51:17)
Great clip. Great clip. Just look it up. I'm not going to spoil it. Not going to spoil it.
speaker-1 (51:21)
That's kind of workish, though.
speaker-0 (51:23)
And then in the West, the Rangers sit half a game ahead of the Houston Astros. The sorry, I'm pulling up the wild card. The Astros can still get into the wild card.
speaker-1 (51:36)
So they have to win they have to win the division. Now the Astros have four against the Athletics.
speaker-0 (51:42)
The Astros can win the division? Yes. can't get in the division?
speaker-1 (51:46)
Not
getting into the wild card. They have to win the division. Now the Rangers play Minnesota. Houston plays the A's. Cleveland plays the Royals. White Sox play the Rockies. So the White Sox could still win the AL Central. That would just bump the Guardians down to the last wild card. But the the only division that's really up in the air for a playoff spot is
the West. And that's gonna come down to can the athletics beat Houston and keep him out of the playoffs? Please.
speaker-0 (52:22)
For all the...not hype, but people had some positive things to say for the athletics at the beginning of year and they started okay and then just kind of fell off cliff. If they keep the Astros out of the playoffs, I think it's a success of a season for them. Like they walk out of this year, they're like, yes, let's go. It's like when the Lions beat the Packers a few years ago and like they weren't going to the playoffs or anything, but they kept Aaron Rodgers out. It's a win.
big one.
speaker-1 (52:53)
That's big win.
speaker-0 (52:54)
Yeah.
speaker-1 (52:55)
The National gets dicey.
Sorry, go out, Caleb. No, I was gonna say the thing that kind of throws me is that we there's a good chance we have a five hundred team in the playoffs, or maybe a sub five hundred team in the playoffs. The Rangers are one game under five hundred, Astros are two games under. Well the and then have we had a sub five hundred team in the playoffs before? I'm sure it's happened, but it's been a while. Didn't the Pirates make the one game playoff in like ten years ago and they weren't very good?
They lost, I think, to the Yankees in the one game. But that's just the the Pirates. In the no, but remember when the wild card playoff round was a one game play in? Was that when they played the Cubs?
speaker-0 (53:39)
How would the pirates have played the Yankees?
speaker-1 (53:41)
Why
did I say the why did I say the Yankees? No, it was the Yankees were on the other side of it. The Yankees were on the other side of it. I'm sure twenty Was
speaker-0 (53:48)
What?
speaker-1 (53:48)
that sixteen?
it's more MPJ's Brewhouse, yes. So sixteen? Let me see. I know Schwarber hit a home run off of Cole in the sixteen wildcard game or fifteen wildcard game, one of those two.
Why not say the Yankees? Fifteen. Fifteen.
speaker-0 (54:04)
According to Fox Sports, no team has made the postseason with a sub-500 record unless you count a trio of participants from years the playoffs were temporarily expanded. In 2020, the season shortened by COVID, Milwaukee and Houston made it both at 29 and 31. In 1981, the Kansas City Royals went 50 and 53, but they were the AL West's top team.
in the post-strike second half in 94.
speaker-1 (54:36)
Rangers. We were elite.
speaker-0 (54:38)
Might as well, you might as well, you know, one in 2015 too. That's how bad they were. and 94, the Rangers led, no, not even close, dude. There was a team three years later that was, that would have ran laps around you guys.
speaker-1 (54:53)
Correct.
speaker-0 (54:54)
this fucking guy he doesn't know about the 2018 Red Sox and 94 the Rangers led a woeful AO West at 52 and 62 when the players strike ended the season. MLB expanded its postseason to 12 teams in 2022. None else. So no, this would be the first.
speaker-1 (55:14)
I do think this kind of creates maybe a conversation of you've seen it I'm I'm sure we've seen it on Twitter, about reshaping divisions, reshaping leagues, maybe. I mean, the AL West might not have a team over five hundred. That is a real possibility. Terrible division. Is that is that something that I don't
speaker-0 (55:36)
gets looked at.
speaker-1 (55:36)
know. Well, they're talking about if they expand the MLB to two more teams, they would go
Better regional, like the Royals, the Pirates, the Guardians, the Brewers, the Reds, something like that. The Brewers would do that division ten years in a row.
speaker-0 (55:55)
The death of the American National League.
speaker-1 (55:58)
Every year. And go back to go back to no no inter league play. One week a year. You play two inter league series a year. That's it. Good take. You stay in your freaking league.
speaker-0 (56:09)
Would we keep the American League in National League?
speaker-1 (56:12)
I think we go back to how it was before, with like I said, two separate leagues and you don't see each other really until the World Series. That's how it should
speaker-0 (56:20)
It should be. That's how, that's absolutely how it should be.
speaker-1 (56:23)
This is baseball, goddammit, not the MV.
speaker-0 (56:25)
Well then we get into the DH and the, you know, the specific rules that kept them separate for a little while.
speaker-1 (56:34)
I do enjoy seeing being able to see the Red Sox play in Miami, but back in the like when we were kids,
speaker-0 (56:41)
Like
speaker-1 (56:42)
seeing like the one week, the Red Sox play the Giants for the first time in in five years. Yeah. Like that that that kind of thing was cool. Being
speaker-0 (56:52)
And then the team you're
speaker-1 (56:53)
in the World Series, you don't know. You you haven't played them. It it feels like a like a travel ball matchup kind of, which is really cool to me. Well my
speaker-0 (57:02)
appointment it was an appointment for you like when the Red Sox would go to Dodger Stadium or they go to Wrigley Field like remember when remember when they did the retro uniforms in like 2011 when the Cubs went to Boston and they did like the it was it was they were like the the 1900 uniforms it was Kevin Euclid's in a full cotton uniform it was amazing it was so it was great but
You know, it just made made baseball baseball. Now we have this where everyone plays everyone. It sucks.
speaker-1 (57:35)
I do think that my baseball knowledge of the National League was like on the floor when the Royals never played national league teams. 'Cause I there's I've no reason to watch it unless the Royals are gonna make the playoffs. I'm like scouting the World Series matchup. Why am I gonna watch like a Cubs Reds game? if the Royals are never gonna play that team. So I do enjoy that getting to see a lot of teams every year, and kind of brush up on like who's playing for who and some of the national league teams, but
That's about it. It's the only real benefit of it.
speaker-0 (58:07)
The Pirates would be winning the American League West, by the way.
speaker-1 (58:10)
No, the Guardians definitely won't be too g if the pirates were in there, okay.
speaker-0 (58:15)
Yeah, they're 81. They actually just clinched a winning non-sub 500 season for the first time in seven years today. Clap it up for the Pirates. They did it.
speaker-1 (58:27)
The Cardinals are in fourth place in the central and upall would be in third fighting for a wild card in the AL. The AL is so fucking bad this year. It's so bad. Now imagine being the Mariners and you look at like the end of the season at what the competition's like in the in your division, and you're like, How the fuck do we not win our division with the starting pitching we have? Like that pitching wasn't as good as they have been. But it should have been.
Everyone except for Logan Gilbert is over a four ERA as of right now, as far as I know. Yeah. I think Gilbert's at like a three five. But you got Kirby, you got Miller, you got Wu, everyone's a four or above. fire everybody on your on the pitching side of your coaching staff. Yep. Because do something about it. So something happened to Cal Raleigh. He turned into a complete tomato. It's just everything went wrong for them. They need He's the worst catcher in baseball this year, isn't he?
In terms of offensive value, I believe so. Yeah. He's not he won the platinum glove a few years ago, and I don't think of him this year as like a strong defensive catcher. He's a great he was always a good game manager behind the plate, but I haven't seen much of his defensive metrics this year, but his war this year tells me that he's probably not playing the same kind of defense he was last year.
speaker-0 (59:50)
to the National League. We have a tighter race in the wild card. We have San Diego sitting in the number one spot, Chicago, half a game back and half a game up on the Phillies for the second spot. Philadelphia sitting in the third at 87-71. And the Arizona Diamondbacks are currently two and a half games back of Philadelphia on the cusp. So are we getting a run from the D-backs?
I saw Nolan Aronado hit a home run today.
speaker-1 (1:00:21)
Well, who do they finish the season against? The motherfucking Padres. The fucking Padres. It's gonna be beautiful. And they've got what one more against Colorado. They they swept Colorado, Caleb. You're talking on Tuesday night. If they swept Colorado, then it becomes a real shot and they just swept Colorado, so And the Padres still gotta beat the Dodgers tonight. And if they don't, the Divin Vaca and
speaker-0 (1:00:46)
You f***ing
blast now.
speaker-1 (1:00:48)
I love Favetta. Actually, I think the Padres have the tiebreaker over the Diamondbacks, so the Diamondbacks do have to sweep the Padres, but the way they've been playing lately, I know it's the Rockies, but they've been swinging it. Well, they could also they could catch the Phillies. If the Phillies lost to Phillies have three against Tampa Bay. So the Phillies went one and two against Tampa Bay and the Diamondbacks swept, they would be in by what half a game?
Caleb, did you die?
Alex, a Caleb guy.
speaker-0 (1:01:17)
Yeah, he's dead.
speaker-1 (1:01:19)
Finally,
this is my fucking show now.
Did he say where he was going?
speaker-0 (1:01:24)
No.
His girl's probably home. Or he'd almost shit himself.
speaker-1 (1:01:28)
He did say he's been a lot of he did say he's been eating a lot of chili ta chili nachos or something, so
speaker-0 (1:01:34)
He almost shit himself. Did you almost shit yourself?
speaker-1 (1:01:36)
Five
no, I was gone for five seconds. I thought you guys would keep it rolling.
speaker-0 (1:01:40)
I thought John was going keep going.
speaker-1 (1:01:42)
No, I got I looked at my phone and I looked up. I was talking to Caleb. Looked at my phone, looked back, and Caleb was gone. I was like, what the fuck? Where did Caleb go? No, I'd run deal with some shit for five seconds. I wouldn't have left if it was going to take me more than that. So by the way, Phillies are losing to Milwaukee right now. Then they go three against Tampa Bay. So if they lose tonight, that means Arizona picks up a half a game in the current standings, which would put him two games out. And then if
Philadelphia hypothetically got swept by the Rays, Arizona wins or sweeps the Padres, they're in by half a game. Or they're in by a full game. So it is gonna come down to that. That's gonna be insane.
There is a world there is a world where the Phillies make it there is a world where the Phillies get swept by the Rays and the Diamondbacks kind of sneaking past them instead of the Padres. Like that that's possible. I don't know if the Phillies game is concluded tonight. No, they're down two to one right now. So if they lose that, I don't I don't know about their tiebreaker, but the Phillies need to need to at least win one or two against the Rays. Yeah.
'Cause the Cubs clinched so there's no possibility of that collapsing. Not that they're gonna s get swept by the dog shit Red Sox right now, but
How is it that the r it's because the Cubs are have played one more game than the Padres. That's why their collection the Padres aren't. And they hold the the tiebreaker both on the Padres and the Dimebacks. Okay, that makes sense. I think it's gonna be San Diego, Chicago, and I I think the the Dimebacks will lose one against San Diego. Because San Diego's not gonna lay lay down and let Arizona get in the playoffs if they can stop
So we'll have to see about that. That's gonna be exciting. I'm gonna watch probably every game that that series.
speaker-0 (1:03:32)
I'm gonna watch the Verlander game on Saturday. RIP to Justin Verlander's career.
speaker-1 (1:03:38)
Is it his last game?
speaker-0 (1:03:39)
Yeah.
speaker-1 (1:03:40)
He's gonna be dude he could play another year if he felt like it. He really could. He could jam your
speaker-0 (1:03:47)
Scherzer's
also giving his decision, they said, within the coming days.
speaker-1 (1:03:51)
So they were Schurzer also Scherzer also said that he wants to get one more outing in to get a couple strikeouts ahead of Erlander. That kind of tells me he's he's done that for this year too. Yeah. He wants to finish ahead of his boy. He does I mean they they've been competing against each other forever. So I I mean that that's kind of cool to see, to be honest. Yeah.
speaker-0 (1:04:12)
You want to talk about for the love of the game, this is the Billy Chapel moment.
speaker-1 (1:04:16)
Verlander throw is a perfect game.
speaker-0 (1:04:18)
He could.
Who says he can't?
Who they
speaker-1 (1:04:25)
A's
maybe? No. No, the A's are playing the Astro.
speaker-0 (1:04:30)
Where are the tigers? are the tigers? are tigers? Pirates! Pittsburgh Pirates. Completely meaningless.
speaker-1 (1:04:38)
If you're gonna throw a perfect game, the Pirates aren't a bad team to do it against this year. Offense isn't great. Except
speaker-0 (1:04:43)
There you go.
speaker-1 (1:04:45)
they could it could be Ryan O'Hearn.
speaker-0 (1:04:47)
I wonder what the future is on a Justin Verlander perfect game on Saturday.
speaker-1 (1:04:51)
Check and that that that brings us to our sponsor, Calci Polymarket and DraftKings Sportsbook. Brought to you by AI, brought to you by Flock Case.
speaker-0 (1:05:03)
Hold
the Sydney Sweeney
speaker-1 (1:05:06)
It's
just no, it's just me naked in a chaotically intolerant hat. It's just sports. that's John John's got two footballs over his boobs. He's ready.
speaker-0 (1:05:18)
He's got two baseballs, his nipples are small enough.
speaker-1 (1:05:21)
I do. Or it's just a little ping pong ball for downstairs.
What the fuck? Took you so long.
speaker-0 (1:05:30)
Well, I'm trying to find Justin Verlander perfect game. What are the odds for that? I don't even know if I could get the odds for that.
speaker-1 (1:05:37)
Call Calci. They'll let you bet. You can bet on it. You can trade on it.
speaker-0 (1:05:40)
No, it's not betting it's not betting don't you dare fucking
speaker-1 (1:05:44)
Commodities
trading. It's you can trade you can trade the commodity of Justin Verlander and you can sue them if they don't offer it 'cause they say you can trade on literally anything.
speaker-0 (1:05:54)
stupid dude. Yeah. Alright well I think that's it.
speaker-1 (1:05:58)
I don't
think we can have free advertisements for that.
speaker-0 (1:06:01)
No, no free, no free ads, no free ads on this show. all right. I think that's a good spot to move in to the Maryland spotlight. All right, Maryland spotlight. We're going to cover the Ravens today on the Maryland spotlight, the Baltimore Ravens. they looked like John Harbaugh's team. I'll say that they look very John Harbaugh-esque in this one. And they fall to the future MVP, Tyler Shuck and the New Orleans Saints in Baltimore in the home opener. Mike.
Again, my first thought when watching this game, because this was on the big TV at my house, is John Harbaugh still on the sideline.
speaker-2 (1:06:39)
Yeah, it felt it felt like it. It was 'cause you're watching and it's like they were never putting the Saints away, which is kind of what they do. They let teams hang around. And I get it, the Saints are an improved team. So, you know, losing it's not quite like losing to the Browns like the Bucs did. But yeah, the the blown leads, the inability to make the stop on fourth down. I know it was close, but they missed the penalty too. So it's not like well, they screwed up. I mean, the Ravens got
lucky on that play too. actually they probably got luckier because d if that penalty gets called and they don't score, the Saints just kneel down, kick a field goal, and the Ravens don't even have a chance to throw that interception at the end that they inevitably were going to. same story. It's it's close games and not winning them. Right? It's it's one week you can go in indie and put up forty one and
have a you know, breathe easy game and a week later you come home, you get in a dog fight and you're one and one. So yeah.
speaker-0 (1:07:46)
Yeah, is this is this an overlooking New Orleans? It felt they felt I mean the first half looked really good. The you know, it was all Ravens it felt like and then just second half obviously refused to run Derek Henry. Derek Henry five carries for 17 yards in the second half. What was the what was the lead going into the half? Was it 10?
speaker-2 (1:08:10)
Was it eight or was it five?
speaker-1 (1:08:12)
Was
speaker-0 (1:08:14)
Let's see
here. Let's look at this play by play. It was eight. No, I'm sorry. Yes, it was eight. It was eight. It was an eight point lead. New Orleans take the field goal at the half.
speaker-3 (1:08:29)
Mm-hmm.
speaker-2 (1:08:30)
Yep.
speaker-0 (1:08:31)
Yeah, the Ravens I do have a stat the Ravens have an NFL high 15 losses since 2020 went up by 10 or more points at any point in the game.
speaker-2 (1:08:44)
Right.
speaker-0 (1:08:45)
Really, really just brutal. 14 of those obviously were John Harbaugh, you know, he was responsible for those. But again, I mean, you know, it's week two, you get the, you get those first game jitters out of the way. You're, you know, it's not quite as new anymore. And you just back to the same old things. I mean, this is, you know, what, what, what are they, what are they saying in the locker room? You know, at this point where you're like, you know, is this a different coach? I mean, it's
Clearly not.
speaker-2 (1:09:15)
I yeah, well, it's been two games, it's hard to tell. But again, it's now it's life without Zay Flowers too. We don't put that into you know, we talked so much like before about having somebody step up and Bateman had a good game. I mean, he was seven for eighty-eight with a touchdown. You can't say he didn't, you know, put up the numbers he needed to, but when when Lamar doesn't have that true security blanket, because you know, I he went look at six for forty-nine to Andrews, but
It feels like the Ravens are very reliant on having everything in place, right? That you wanna have depth, but it's hard sometimes for some teams to adjust and say, hey, we're gonna plug this guy in and we're gonna be fine or we're gonna adjust our offense the way that like the Patriots could back in the day, right? They could win if you know, without great receivers or they could win with certain guys out because they could make those adjustments. And I don't know if what it is exactly with Lamar Jackson, the last pass was
Not only was it a bad pass, it was it looked like a clear miscommunication on that level.
Yeah. No clue. I mean it was somebody was in the wrong there, but it only takes one person being in the wrong to lose a game. So it doesn't matter who it was. But now it's okay. I mean, look, if the Saints end up having a good year, which you think they're going to, and I think if if nothing else they'll be in the mix, then you could say, Well, okay, it's again, we didn't lose to some awful and eight team coming in, but that's not how you wanna view this. You wanna view this as
You had an opportunity to win. You had an eight point lead. you had a double digit lead at one point. You had an eight-point lead going into the fourth. And it's the same problem, right? And it's also you get behind. I mean, what if Lamar had been able to put together a drive? What if they had been able to score? Do they go for two? That's one question. Or if they get into overtime, can the defense make a stop? Because that's when you learn about a team. What do you what how does your team perform when it absolutely has no margin for error?
And we've constantly seen the ravens fall short in that area.
speaker-0 (1:11:14)
Yeah, yeah. One good thing, Trey Hendrickson gets the first sack out of the way. There's sometimes pressure for these big name guys on a brand new team. So he does get that first sack out of the way. But this was a game, again, marred by mistakes from the Ravens, seven penalties from Baltimore in this game. I I chalk it up to a week to early season just
You these guys have played maybe two game like equivalent of really like one game through the preseason so you know they're shaking the rust off and all that but it's just you know it hasn't been pretty and again like you look at other teams you look at like the Buffalo Bills right now yeah who they are kind of in the same boat of they have fallen short a lot and especially the recent past but obviously Buffalo is known for falling short for
Super Bowls for years, you know, Buffalo looks great right now. Buffalo has, I mean, they've kind of had no trouble, at least on offense, they've had no trouble. I mean, they destroyed a Texans defense that's supposed to be, you know, the number one in the league. Obviously, the Bills defense didn't look that good that week either. And then, you know, they roll over the Lions on Thursday night football. So it's really felt
Very good and and you know overall like high vibes for Buffalo and and just one loss like this it really just destroys your confidence in you know week two of a season now I mean how do you bounce back because you're going into Rio now you have to go to Rio and play the Dallas Cowboys I mean I would assume you want to come out there and punch them in the mouth first drive
know, just be very aggressive. Am I right about that?
speaker-2 (1:13:10)
You know, I don't think we need to get all worked up about, you know, the whole international thing. This is just about the Cowboys. The Ravens have experience playing the Cowboys and trying not to blow a lead. I think they had a massive lead the last time they faced him a couple of years ago. It whittled down to about three points. And so but every every week is a new test for the Ravens defense. It seems like.
Th there's just no there's no like, let's have a game where we get right or something. That's just not a thing. You know, you you don't have time to get right. You just have to go out and put together performance. The hallmark of the Ravens Super Bowl winning teams in the past is defense. That that's just not their identity anymore.
speaker-0 (1:13:55)
Yeah, well, I mean when I think about the Ravens I think of elite defensive play and You know running the ball like old-school football. That's that's really what I think about and It doesn't really look like old-school football now Maybe the Colts performance this past week on Sunday night Makes you guys feel a little bit of a little bit better about yourselves because I mean, you know the Ravens were all over the Colts It was not even competitive
and Indianapolis was, you know, they took the Chiefs to the final second in overtime. So that's probably a little, little bit of a confidence boost there. It makes you feel a little bit better about that win. But yeah, mean, Dallas is going to be that's, think Dallas is one of your bigger tests now just because of the offense. The defense, I mean, again, Dallas is defense stinks, but the offense seeing what the Ravens defense can do. mean, again, being
Aggressive against this Dallas offense and you know making them perform to the highest level possible Is really important, you know, you really want to see them have to reach into their bag to try and beat the Ravens here I feel like well, you know, you guys should be pretty comfortable in this game, but again, I mean I I Picked a four-point win for the Ravens. You thought it, you know, this last one should have been 12 and a half
We got torn apart on social media a little bit for that one. I did post that clip and people were having fun and us being wrong. But you know, that's my own fault for going against my pick of Tyler Shuck being the MVP. We did predict Tyler Shuck to be the MVP and the Saints to win the NFC South in our preview episode. So can't be shocked when they go out and beat the Ravens and make even us look stupid.
But give your prediction for this game in Rio for me.
speaker-2 (1:15:51)
it's gonna be h pretty high scoring. I do think the Ravens will bounce back. It's you know, I I but it'll be
They'll it'll be ugly. Well not ugly, it'll just be like they'll do just enough. Or they'll have a lead and and it'll get close. I'll just say Ravens thirty four twenty seven.
speaker-0 (1:16:10)
I'm gonna go,
feel like I just want to be the contrarian here and I want to pick Dallas. I don't know why maybe because it's international and Dallas just has a lot more international appeal and you know, maybe the NFL Roger Goodell makes a phone call and is like, Hey, we got to have the Cowboys win. I'm going to say Dallas 3228 in this one. The Ravens fall to one and two, which I mean, again, maybe I'm just
being a bit, I'm obviously I'm not a Ravens fan, but I'm being a Ravens doomer, where, you know, a loss like this one against the Saints, they come in. I still think the Saints are very good team. Devon Vailay was amazing. Joann Johnson is a really good veteran guy to have, but I just, this is not a game they should have lost if they were going to be that real Super Bowl contender. And I feel like this is a bit of a punishment. Going to Rio.
especially losing in Rio, think that is more of the wake up call that they're gonna need. I think the Ravens are gonna go into this game feeling a little bit like, okay, we lost, but we're still a really good team. know, may be feeling like they've won this one a little bit. Cause the vibe feels like, all right, we shouldn't have lost that game, but it's fine cause we're good. Like we're still a good team. Maybe to me, it feels like they've kind of still crowned themselves a little bit that they have Lamar Jackson.
If lose this one, that's the real, you know, kicking the ass. Let's go. Let's, you know, we, have to, we have to win some games here. so I'm picking Dallas. I think this is going to be an important game, for.
speaker-2 (1:17:50)
It's always safe to assume if the Ravens lose it's gonna be a close game. And honestly, the defense actually didn't play that badly. held the Saints under three hundred yards. So if anything, this is a more of a wake up call for the offense.
speaker-0 (1:18:03)
Yeah, Tyler Shuck against the Blitz on Sunday. Just another stat, just another boosting Tyler Shuck's MVP candidacy here. Tyler Shuck against the Blitz, 10 for 13 with 113 yards. He was surgical against the Blitz. And Rashad Bateman, just want to give a little bit extra Raven stats here. Rashad Bateman's 88 yards was the highest he's had in a game since Halloween Eve.
last year against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. So good for a shot, that's pretty cool. Alrighty, well, I'm going to root for the Ravens. I was rooting for the Saints this week because of my preseason prediction for the Saints. I'm rooting for the Ravens this week. I bought a Trace McSorley jersey at a flea market this weekend. Got it for 10 bucks. So pretty good find. I was pretty happy with that. And I feel like since I live in Baltimore now, I have to have something like that.
So I will have that ready to go for Sunday, but let's move in to the next segment.
Alright, welcome back to the podcast that is not inspired by PTI and was created prior to 2016, right around Harambe's death, which was actually in the summer of 2016. prior to Harambe's death. Yes. John, what is your opinion that we should
speaker-1 (1:19:43)
They say the bigger the glasses, the bolder the opinion is what they say. I'm of the opinion that Caleb's favorite manager, Kevin Cash, will finish his career second all time in managerial wins.
speaker-3 (1:20:00)
Caleb, anything?
speaker-1 (1:20:01)
No. Caleb's frozen. So right now, Kevin Cash at 48 years old is at 992 wins. therefore, he is averaging approximately 83 wins a year. at the age of 58, that would bring him to 1822, 17th all time. By the way, a lot of those guys retired or guys that retired in their late 60s. if he continues that trend through his like age sixty-five season.
That would put him awfully close to second all time. His five forty win percentage is just below Joe Torrey, just ahead of Sparky Anderson. so starting that young, he will end up being the most the most storied modern manager of all time. Of all modern time. Caleb, would you take Kevin Cash as the manager of the Boston Red Sox?
You would ask me this before around May of this year, I'd say yes. I'm happy with what Tred Chad Tracy has done in the Red Sox, but Kevin Cash is is certainly interesting just because of the lack of pure talent he's had on his teams and the amount of guys that have been shipped out and or left in free agency or did some really bad things with some illegal people.
it was one time.
It was one guy. I mean that the the highest paid guy in their their franchise's history, so you never know. don't sign that contract, Junior.
know what happens. I d I don't think his Kevin Catch's regular season wins matter at all until he wins a ring. Which it's the Rays. They choke in the playoffs every year. They find some kind of way. Their their demon magic runs out. They find a way to lose. I don't give a shit about his regular season wins until he wins as many World Series as guys like
I mean looking at the list, Connie Mack, Tony LaRussa, Joe Torrey, Bobby. Nobody's gonna catch Connie Mack. That's nobody'll ever catch Connie Mac. But that's like what, like eighteen forty one to nineteen sixteen or something? He coaches more like nineteen hundreds to nineteen thirties, but yeah. Whatever. You get the picture. but he's gonna pull a Joe Madden and he will end up going somewhere where he can where he can win a World Series.
He'll end up in Chicago, he'll end up in New York.
speaker-0 (1:22:37)
I love how Chicago is more of a, even in like 2015, 2014, it was more of a realistic place for him to win a World Series than the fucking Rays. Chicago, who hadn't won in over a hundred years, it was still the mo- more realistic than the Rays.
speaker-1 (1:22:54)
I'm calling right now Rays when the World Series is here. Rays when the World Series is here. Somehow the the Padres knock out the Braves.
speaker-0 (1:23:01)
The only-
speaker-1 (1:23:02)
The Phillies knock out the Brewers. And it ends up being Phillies, Rays, and the Phillies avenge the O eight World Series. The O eight World Series. Wouldn't the Rays be the ones avenging the Yes, they avenge they avenge it. You said the Because the Phillies beat them then, so they would avenge the World Series of O eight.
speaker-0 (1:23:22)
said the Phillies would avenge.
speaker-1 (1:23:23)
I mean the Rays would avenge the Phillies for the O eight World Series. You know what I'm saying? I'm taking it. my God. Shut up.
speaker-0 (1:23:28)
Yeah, the Phillies. I'm. You
avenge your.
speaker-1 (1:23:33)
They take their revenge upon the Philadelphia Phillies. I'm a least not a word. I'm taking at least four N L teams over the race in the World Series this year. They're
speaker-0 (1:23:43)
I'm taking the pirates over the rays in the World Series this
speaker-1 (1:23:47)
You're out of your mind. That that picks up. So it's not a one percent. It's not a one percent if they're one of what twelve teams that are left and they're the number one American league seed overall. It's not one percent. It's like twelve percent. I don't see there being a realistic I don't see there being a realistic NL team that makes it the World Series that would even be close to giving the Rays a series. I think a lot of these NL teams are beating them in five games.
I don't think the Cubs are making it past the Cubs aren't making it past the log card round. But if the cu the Rays could beat the Brewers. Rays could be the Brewers. Rays could be the Cubs. Rays could beat the Padres. Rays could be the Phillies. No. I don't think they beat Atlanta and I don't think they beat the Dodgers. The Phillies are streaky. The Phillies are a streaky team. And they're reliant on two or three old or aging veteran stars. They have a great pitching staff, but the Rays can manufacture what runs against great pitching staff.
speaker-0 (1:24:45)
I can't take you seriously in those fucking glasses. I can't take you. I look up. I look up. No, keep them on. Don't take them off. But I look up and I'm just like, it's crazy. I see like the behind you on those glasses. see.
speaker-1 (1:25:05)
It's great. Alex?
speaker-0 (1:25:08)
No, Caleb.
speaker-1 (1:25:09)
Taylor?
speaker-0 (1:25:10)
I would go. I actually have mine, but...
speaker-1 (1:25:12)
my opinion that me needs to be ex excused is the best free agent hitter of this upcoming class is not currently in major league baseball. I don't know if you guys have done some digging into who might get posted this year from the NPB, but I've been doing some looking at teriyaki Whoa nope teru no teruaki chicken. No, I I knew I was gonna fuck that up.
Race. Sato. That's incredible. Yeah. He is, I think, third baseman, right? Am I missing yeah, third baseman. Corner infielder of Saturday. For Hanashin. this past season he hit three thirteen with thirty-six homers, ninety eight RBIs in a hundred and thirty-four games. Last season, two seventy seven, forty homers, hundred and two RBIs. Wait, and this dude's twenty seven. Yeah, he's twenty seven. He's about to get posted this year.
Like most likely you never know with with these Japanese leagues, but this dude has been a twenty homer bat at least every year since his twenty two year old rookie year in Japan. I I think this guy is gonna be a stud. I don't I don't see him being like a like a Okamoto or a Murakami type where he's straight up power, no no average. This seems like a kind of guy who knows how to hit, who has
has actual bat-to-ball skills. and he I mean he's he might be better than Jungbuli. I this guy's actually got popped.
speaker-0 (1:26:47)
Christian Watson touchdown pet or touchdown reception.
speaker-1 (1:26:50)
Good him. and if I hear one more motherfucker say something along the lines of, Well, let's see how his his game translates to MLB, shut the fuck up. Every star player in Japan or Korea, their game can translate to the MLB. Because they are extremely competitive baseball leagues. So I don't want to hear back when Ichiro came over, maybe. Back when like the early, early days Matsui and some of those guys when we hadn't seen enough MPB baseball.
If you're a star in the MPB, you're good enough to be a star in the MLB. Period. End of story. Yeah, this guy's been a thousand OPS guy the last year. I d I don't see anything in his stats that tell me he can't translate over. Maybe there's something in his swing. But I still find something I honestly think Sato is going to be the most coveted free agent bat this offseason, whenever it the offseason happens. He's gonna look good in Dodger Blue, goddamn.
Well, what happens if there's a lockout to the international signings? 'Cause they're not they're not major league players. I mean can they still sign? You don't really see the postings until probably like November, December. So maybe there is a time period before the lockout I think the the official CBA ends in is it January? Mm-hmm. But what I'm saying is they're not they're not in the MLB players' union.
So would the lockout apply to them? The managers are not allowed to talk to players on their roster or that are on a major league roster. Can they contact MPV players? Could it be a thing where smart owners are contacting a lot of the international guys saying we can't blow our money right now on free agents, we'll go out and sign a bunch of them. I need to figure that out. I'm sure there's a way they can contact them and stay in touch, but I don't think any actual deals can happen until that C BA is resolved. Interesting.
I look forward to it. Alex, I want to hear your opinion. I'm not gonna excuse it.
speaker-0 (1:28:49)
My opinion, and I hate to, cause I was just talking shit about them. My opinion is that the Rays new road uniforms are fire. I'm afraid to say that they're really fucking good. And if they are going in that direction for the entire brand, they might win the world series like next year. I'm really nervous to say that. Cause I never want to talk positive about the Rays cause they just have nothing positive to ever speak about.
when have they won a world series,
speaker-1 (1:29:21)
running through the American League on like a a fifth of the budget of the other teams, that's kind of impressive.
At all.
from now. That was my world series birthday.
speaker-0 (1:29:31)
And
even the Blue Jays have done it. But yeah, I'm afraid the uniform is heat. But we'll do a uniform draft at some point. The old Raze uniforms might make their way in there. Now, I personally, I like the green with the vests, the best. Those are my favorites. The Devil Raze. I love a good vest. I love a
speaker-1 (1:29:52)
Devil all the devil rays branding is just elite. These the black
speaker-0 (1:29:56)
It's so good.
I call him the Devil Ray still usually because it pisses off raised fans, but it's it's a better name It's a bet. It's better branding the Rays just it's the Ray Rays is missing something Tampa Bay Rays. You're just missing something
speaker-1 (1:30:15)
I'm glad they went back to the stingray branding 'cause for when they unveiled just the rays, it was like a ray of sunlight. I was like, that's stupid. You are stingray
speaker-0 (1:30:23)
Really?
speaker-1 (1:30:25)
first and foremost, forever and always. They have a freaking stingray tank at the stadium and you can't see the sun from inside their circus tent. So why are we saying rays of sunshine? Makes no sense.
speaker-0 (1:30:38)
Yeah, new stadium maybe would make more sense. It'll
speaker-1 (1:30:41)
Some rays inside.
speaker-0 (1:30:43)
probably be hot as shit in there all of sudden.
speaker-1 (1:30:46)
I'm down. I'd rather watch baseball outside if I can't.
speaker-0 (1:30:49)
Well, it's it's indoors, but it's going to be like all windows.
speaker-1 (1:30:54)
Like the Marlins, they have that back two back walls of all windows. And that
speaker-0 (1:30:58)
I
think they're doing all windows. I think it's made out of windows. The stadium is a window.
That's the way to do it. Yes. That would be awesome.
speaker-1 (1:31:08)
They should have it should be magnifying glasses. That should be what the stadium is made out of.
speaker-0 (1:31:13)
And you can move it you can move it kind of like in the Simpsons episode with the ozone and They like the ozone chases millhouse around and burns all the grass. They should you can move it for the away players So you leave it on the batter's box? When the visiting team is batting, yeah, and then you leave it on the pitchers mound and it follows the ball And then it burns up it burns all the players up
speaker-1 (1:31:38)
That's what's the way to do it. Some shit like the Dolphins do with their stadium where they have the their home side covered and the other side is is facing the sun at their at
speaker-0 (1:31:48)
the Rays were a smart organization, they would be using the Florida Heat to their advantage. Completely.
speaker-1 (1:31:55)
Brilliant.
Kinda like how the Packers use the ice cold to their advantage. Smart. Very smart.
speaker-0 (1:32:02)
But the Dol- Well the Dolphins do it a little better. I don't know if the Packers have like an extra cold side of the stadium.
speaker-1 (1:32:08)
No, they're players who just used to it being
speaker-0 (1:32:10)
They
just like packed the field with ice on one side. They're like it's just extra close.
speaker-1 (1:32:15)
All the snow to one side.
speaker-0 (1:32:17)
I would love that. Kind of like what the Patriots did with the kicker. the
speaker-1 (1:32:21)
The f the the footballs, yeah. The deflects
speaker-0 (1:32:23)
kicker. This is back, this is way back in the day with the kicker where they cleared out the snow for their kicker to make a game-winning kick. That was illegal. Back.
speaker-1 (1:32:33)
And just like it was illegal to film other teams' practices and deflate the balls.
speaker-0 (1:32:38)
I'll give you the filming, but the deflated footballs, I'm not gonna get into that.
speaker-1 (1:32:43)
Andrew
Lake
speaker-0 (1:32:46)
They
scored more points in the second half. They scored more points in the second half. I'm sorry with
speaker-1 (1:32:52)
Throwing
a fucking soccer ball and the Patriots were gonna win that game by thirty. Exactly.
speaker-0 (1:33:00)
It did not matter. What so ever.
speaker-1 (1:33:02)
Suck
that year, dude. Holy shit.
speaker-0 (1:33:05)
I mean, they didn't suck.
speaker-1 (1:33:07)
They was that was that was that a case of
speaker-0 (1:33:11)
Jonas Gray.
speaker-1 (1:33:12)
luck?
Pull up the AI graphic. Run it again. Run the AI graphic.
speaker-0 (1:33:18)
Out of
luck, out of luck. Alright, well that's a good spot to move into the snake trap.
Well, we are expecting or we will be seeing the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees add another chapter to the storied rivalry in the playoffs this week or this week in the wild card round. Somebody will advance. Somebody will go home. It's one of the greatest rivalries in sports. I think it's the greatest rivalry in sports, but some other people would would disagree. That's why this week we are doing a greatest Red Sox Yankees moments.
snake draft. I finished last so I'm gonna take the number one spot. Caleb and John are tied for the first time ever. We have a tie in the snake draft vote.
speaker-1 (1:34:09)
So Caleb cooked. To settle this draft.
speaker-0 (1:34:12)
To settle this, we are going to be doing a little bit of trivia.
picking my stuff now. I have a list. Do I want to do best of three or best of five or best of seven?
speaker-1 (1:34:25)
Well, it's a best of three series. Boston and New York's gonna be a best of three series. Yeah.
speaker-0 (1:34:30)
Best of three? Okay. All right. First one. I feel like these might be easy for you guys. I'm not sure, but it's the first to answer. And obviously you have to get it right. If you get it wrong, the next guy, you know, gets to answer. Number one, who are the only two players to win A, a league MVP, B, a world series MVP, and C, an all-star game MVP?
speaker-1 (1:34:54)
Two players?
speaker-0 (1:34:55)
Two players.
speaker-1 (1:34:57)
I don't know if you won World Series right. Wait, a World Series or a World Series MVP?
speaker-0 (1:35:01)
League MVP, World Series MVP, and All-Star Game MVP.
speaker-1 (1:35:06)
I have an answer, but I don't want to lose my guess. I have no idea. I'm trying to think of how far back does it go?
speaker-0 (1:35:17)
No, there's two players there's two
So gotta get both of them.
speaker-3 (1:35:21)
world.
speaker-1 (1:35:22)
Corey Seegers never won a league MVP. Nah, he was my first thought, but Harper's won an MVP and an all-star game MVP never won a World Series. Mm-mm.
Eric Hosbro won All-Star Game MVP, didn't win World Series MVP.
Ricky Henderson.
speaker-0 (1:35:37)
No, he is neither of the players.
speaker-1 (1:35:40)
He won he
won he won V P he won a did he win a World Series V P
Now we gotta find a niche World Series MVP. Joe Carter never won the MVP.
Joe Maurer wasn't there when the twins won the World Series.
speaker-0 (1:35:54)
15 more seconds and I will give a small hint.
speaker-1 (1:35:57)
Just give us a hint. I I got nothing.
I'm I'm trying to think of how recent
Thinking all the World Series V Ps, I got nothing right now.
speaker-0 (1:36:05)
All
of the awards won were between 1964 and 1971.
speaker-1 (1:36:13)
Johnny Bench.
speaker-0 (1:36:15)
Think of it.
speaker-1 (1:36:15)
Foster.
speaker-0 (1:36:16)
No.
speaker-1 (1:36:17)
I knew he won MVP. I didn't know about the other two. That was the So can we open guess or are we are we shot down? Demagio. No, DiMaggio's too early. He no way too early. He won MVP.
Was it a Yankee?
speaker-0 (1:36:31)
No.
speaker-1 (1:36:32)
Roberto Clemente.
speaker-0 (1:36:33)
No.
speaker-1 (1:36:34)
No, Starger was the MVP that year. Well seven. Starger was the World Series. No, no, Clemente was World Series MVP in seventy one. Yeah. And I know he won a regular MVP. I didn't
Brett? No, Brett was eighty five.
speaker-0 (1:36:47)
Ten more seconds and I'll give you the next clue.
speaker-1 (1:36:50)
Four.
It was the Reds or Reds A's in seventy four. That's why I said bench. Joe Morgan? Ooh. No.
speaker-0 (1:36:59)
I did not say 74.
speaker-1 (1:37:01)
I think you did. seventy one you said. Sixty four seven.
speaker-0 (1:37:06)
Okay, next hint. These players have the same last name.
speaker-1 (1:37:12)
Dick Allen. Dick R no, never mind. That's the first same first name, idiot. Is it a common
speaker-0 (1:37:18)
same last name. Yeah, yeah, you've heard it. You've heard it plenty of times.
speaker-1 (1:37:25)
When
did Reggie Jackson win the
Jackson was seventy seven, seventy eight. Yeah. But I don't know what he did with the A's. Skip the question. Reggie Jackson.
speaker-0 (1:37:35)
Nope.
You guys know these players are well known.
speaker-1 (1:37:41)
Fight a blue.
No, they he wouldn't have he wouldn't have the same last name. No one. I'm thinking of MVPs in that era.
speaker-0 (1:37:47)
These players were both recently discussed on this show.
speaker-1 (1:37:51)
Okay, so who was our what was our last topics?
speaker-0 (1:37:55)
Recently, so within the last five to six episodes.
speaker-1 (1:37:59)
Okay, let's run we need to run through our drafts real quick. Okay, Maryland born players draft. Frank Robinson? Robinson. Frank and Brooks Robinson.
speaker-0 (1:38:09)
I would say Caleb won, got both of them.
speaker-1 (1:38:11)
He got yeah. Yeah. Frank
Robinson off the bat, but I think of him as MVP in both leagues.
speaker-0 (1:38:18)
Brooks Robinson won the 1964 AL MVP, the 1966 All-Star Game MVP, and the 1970 World Series MVP. Frank Robinson won the 1966 AL MVP, the 1966 World Series MVP, and the 1971 All-Star Game MVP.
speaker-1 (1:38:37)
Do
you know why that's not fair? I was I was not on the Orioles all time draft. So Well I said I said Frank Robinson. Well I guess. Yeah, but I was I was thinking I was thinking of Brooks Robinson, yeah.
speaker-0 (1:38:48)
You should have listened.
speaker-1 (1:38:50)
I thought of Frank Robinson. I thought of Frank Robinson immediately, but I'm like, no, he's not asking MVP and both. That era, I went right to the Reds. I started thinking is the Reds won a bunch of World Series. They had a bunch of really good players. And I don't I don't think of him in that that Reds era though, for some reason. I don't know. I was thinking like Dave Concepcion, Pete Rose, Bench. All right, Caleb. You won the all important game one. Which so you must be the Yankees. shit, that was only game one.
Yeah, Schlitter was on the mound. The Red Sox won game one last year. I know, but the Red Sox the Red Yankees are gonna win game one this year. Now it's Holy on the mound. Cam Schlitter. Schlitter owns the Red Sox. Totally
speaker-0 (1:39:30)
I'm trying to find.
speaker-1 (1:39:31)
awards. Tolley owns the Yankees. Totally owns the Yankees.
The You're So Pretty Colon cancer. Yeah, that's fucking beautiful. I'm almost yeah. Get your most likable guy in baseball. Men don't forget to get your colonoscopy at forty so you don't die from colon cancer. Mine's coming.
speaker-0 (1:39:53)
John, you're close. You're the
speaker-1 (1:39:55)
Yeah, ours ours aren't even. I'm getting mine this year at thirty five. I'm doing mine at thirty five.
speaker-0 (1:39:59)
Alright next one. Who broke up at least 81 no hitters with a home run?
speaker-1 (1:40:05)
fuck, I've seen the stat. One person who it is. I've seen the stat and I forget.
speaker-0 (1:40:09)
One
person. It's one person.
speaker-1 (1:40:12)
Okay, hold on. It needs to be f back when when complete games and and long charts were more common. Willie Mays. I can say Willie Mays, first game. No,
speaker-0 (1:40:21)
No, okay
speaker-1 (1:40:22)
it's not. No. I s I saw this set a couple weeks ago and I don't remember who it was. Wait, I can't guess again, can I?
speaker-0 (1:40:32)
Caleb's got a guess.
speaker-1 (1:40:33)
I've got two in the chamber. I've got two in the chamber that I would I would throw out here in a second. I'll just say Mark McGuire and let you fire off yours.
speaker-0 (1:40:42)
Nope.
speaker-1 (1:40:45)
Caleb, do you agree to getting an era? 'Cause both of mine are era. Yeah, I would I would like an era because I can't remember anything about who it was.
speaker-0 (1:40:56)
Well, I want hear John's guess first.
speaker-1 (1:40:59)
I have two guesses. Fire off I got nothing right now. Mel Odd or Jimmy Fox. I don't think it was that far back. That one I'm trying to think of guys that were pitching.
speaker-0 (1:41:10)
That played a while. This guy played a while and it was somewhat recent. Somewhat recent. Jamie Moore!
speaker-1 (1:41:16)
You
played for a long time.
speaker-0 (1:41:20)
God.
speaker-1 (1:41:21)
Somewhat recent, played a long time. It wasn't it wasn't Big Poppy, was it? Okay. Didn't think so. I don't think we got no hit a whole lot. I'm trying to think. Run the question back. Run the question back.
speaker-0 (1:41:33)
Who broke up at least 81 no hitters with a home run? Yes.
speaker-1 (1:41:38)
Ricky Henderson. Ricky Henderson. Okay. Virtue by virtue of leadoff home runs.
That many leadoff home runs. I remember now.
speaker-0 (1:41:48)
Caleb wins.
speaker-1 (1:41:49)
Wait, hold on. So is he bro are we counting breaking up no hitters at like the first at bat of a game as a no hitter? Yeah. He broke up the no hitter. See, I didn't fucking it's not a no hitter until the f like the the fifth or sixth inning. I'm sorry. If you get a seat off home runner. He
speaker-0 (1:42:04)
You know
speaker-1 (1:42:04)
hasn't allowed a hit. I was not thinking I wasn't even going that angle. See the numbers. Number eighty one was like stuck in my head. I'm like, I I know this number somewhere.
So we're counting. I I didn't even consider leadoff home runs breaking up a no hitter. Otherwise I would have thought lead off home runs King Graffiti or Ricky Henderson. Fuck.
Caleb, way to play the angle. Thank you.
speaker-0 (1:42:28)
All right.
speaker-1 (1:42:29)
Certified ball now.
speaker-0 (1:42:30)
Well, Caleb knows.
speaker-1 (1:42:32)
Fucking tech that's a fucking technicality in who knows.
speaker-0 (1:42:35)
Caleb is the winner of the, what is it? Top postseason moments draft. John still has not won a draft. John.
speaker-1 (1:42:48)
I'm gonna start I'm gonna start sending my students to the website to vote like everyone take out your laptops and before we begin today's lesson, go to cataclyintolerant.com and cast a vote for John for free homework.
speaker-0 (1:42:58)
No, tell them to vote for
who they think is the best.
speaker-1 (1:43:02)
I have
no idea. These are It's called child labor.
speaker-0 (1:43:07)
And that's illegal. All right, John, you want the second or the third spot?
speaker-1 (1:43:13)
Well I wanna I wanna take an elite Red Sox moment away from Caleb, so I've got plenty. You pick yours.
speaker-0 (1:43:19)
There's so many.
speaker-1 (1:43:21)
No, but there's like four there's like two or three that are top nine. I'm t I am twenty D. I'm going to
speaker-0 (1:43:27)
two though. my list. Going
two. Alright, has the three spot and the wrapper.
speaker-1 (1:43:34)
I know I've got a beautiful wraparound coming my way.
speaker-0 (1:43:38)
number one is, I mean, my personal favorite. It's the best one. It's, it's, it's the, it's the start of the comeback. It's the Dave Roberts steel of second base. mean,
speaker-1 (1:43:54)
That was my one one.
speaker-0 (1:43:56)
The Dave Roberts deal of second base started the comeback. it is, mean, that was also at that time, again, that series and like, three and four have so many, you could probably do the whole draft just being an three and four from different moments. So I'm taking the steel.
speaker-1 (1:44:12)
Caleb, I respect you as a ball knower, so I'll leave a Red Sox for you. I'm gonna take Boone's home run in the bottom of the eleventh at zero three, game seven.
speaker-0 (1:44:23)
Wow. Tim Wakefield.
speaker-1 (1:44:25)
It wasn't Wakefield's fault. It was fucking the fault of Pedro Martinez being on the mound way too long. but that's it's a classic Red Sox Yankees moment of the modern era. Yeah, where they went on to get dominated by Josh Beckett in the World Series and then winning. This has nothing to do this has nothing to do with the implications of the next round.
speaker-0 (1:44:46)
Yeah, the Red Sox went on to come back and win the World Series. They won eight straight games.
speaker-1 (1:44:51)
No, the Boone Homer. The Boone Homer ended up meaning nothing. No, it it it it's Yankees versus Red Sox moments. It's not what is the moment.
speaker-0 (1:45:00)
also
ignited the Red Sox for the next year.
speaker-1 (1:45:03)
Yeah, it was a great moment. Great
speaker-0 (1:45:05)
I think that-
speaker-1 (1:45:06)
moment. If you want to leave me with the better ALCS walk off home run, I'll take it.
speaker-0 (1:45:11)
Am I wrong that it led to Theo going to sign Schilling on Thanksgiving?
speaker-1 (1:45:19)
Yeah, absolutely. Yeah. It's hearing
speaker-0 (1:45:21)
I couldn't remember if it was Thanksgiving
that year. I can't remember who was shilling that year or the year before.
speaker-1 (1:45:27)
The guys rallied around Mar around Wakefield. They moved Nomar. I mean it was that they they brought Poppy in that the following year, right? Poppy came out. Yeah.
speaker-0 (1:45:38)
When three three
when cuz Pedro was like we got this Dominican guy go fucking go and then
speaker-1 (1:45:45)
All right, well
speaker-0 (1:45:47)
You take what I think you're gonna take it's a great
speaker-1 (1:45:49)
You're
gonna you're gonna leave me with a better ALCS walk-off home run. I'll take Poppy in game four of 04. The walk-off home run in the twelfth off of Cal Quantrell or Paul Quantrell, sorry. So that's that was my that was my one one. So I'd thank you for letting that fall to me. And then I'll take a moment from three innings prior. I will take the Bill Miller game tying single off of Marion Rivera in the ninth inning. People talk about Dave Roberts stolen base.
They don't talk about Bill Miller hitting nine hole, ripping a single off the middle off of the greatest closer of all time, probably the greatest postseason pitcher of all time, and he got the job done in the ninth inning to tie that game and send it to the to extras for Ortiz to walk it off in the twelfth. So that's that's a new There's no way that name is pronounced Miller. There's no way that is pronounced Miller. It's Mueller. U E L L E R. It gets me every time. It is indeed pronounced Miller.
alright, I'm just gonna take the layup here. Pedro WWE slamming Don Zimmer in the O three ALCS. First of all, people say he was an old man. Then don't charge a fired up young Dominican pitcher in the middle of a rivalry game. Playoff rivalry.
speaker-0 (1:47:07)
And Pedro's just standing.
speaker-1 (1:47:09)
And you know what Don Zimmer thought is, I'm gonna go out there and give this young fucking young buck a lesson.
Nop nip nip nip nip and Pedro grabs him by the head. Whoosh get the fuck out of the way, Oli
speaker-0 (1:47:23)
That was about as gentle of a way that he could have done that. To be honest. Like, well, if someone's charging at you, all he did was he ola'd him, basically.
speaker-1 (1:47:34)
Guided
him to the ground. Yeah, get the fuck out. What else is he supposed
to he rolled? He rolled. Like
speaker-0 (1:47:39)
to cuz yeah
if he tries to like catch Zimmer Zimmer's gonna start you know punching him in the stomach
speaker-1 (1:47:47)
Then you gotta punch the old man.
speaker-0 (1:47:49)
if he actually fights yeah if he actually fights Zimmer it looks a lot worse so all he did was just shove him he was like just I'm taking you out of the fight I'm getting you out
speaker-1 (1:47:59)
It's the most like memeable Red Sox Yankees moment in history. It's a perfect gif. The fuck out of my way.
It's pretty memeable.
speaker-0 (1:48:11)
there's one that I really want to I feel
like I'm taking it high. I like I'm taking it too high. There is one that I really want to take more from the modern era.
speaker-1 (1:48:18)
If you're not going to, I will. I know if you said over there now I really
speaker-0 (1:48:23)
I
don't know if we're talking, are we talking about the same thing?
speaker-1 (1:48:27)
I thought you were talking about something else originally, but you said modern era and I'm now I really know what you're talking
speaker-0 (1:48:32)
Alright, well this first one, I have the wrap around. I'm gonna take I'm gonna take... I'm gonna take Veritek and A-Rod. Damnit. The Veritek and A-Rod fight.
speaker-1 (1:48:42)
That's
the first one I thought you were talking about.
speaker-0 (1:48:46)
It
was like the coals were the coals were already like simmering like it was starting and then someone just poured gasoline on the fire and it was like, okay, we're gonna go fucking kill each other. We're everyone's gonna die. So I'm gonna take yeah, I'll take Barrett tech and a rod
speaker-1 (1:49:03)
Is that the same game as the slap?
speaker-0 (1:49:05)
No, stop
speaker-1 (1:49:06)
Stop. Stop.
speaker-0 (1:49:07)
teasing that it was not the same game. The Veritek-Gerot fight was in June. Was it in June?
speaker-1 (1:49:15)
It was in the summer, June or July.
speaker-0 (1:49:17)
It was, yeah, was summer of 04 and it really was like, okay, these guys are on a collision course for the playoffs. They're gonna see each other. And then I'm gonna take, this is also one of my favorite ones. I have a t-shirt of this, the Joe Kelly fight.
speaker-1 (1:49:34)
That's the other one.
speaker-0 (1:49:35)
Joe Kelly Fight Club. Just Joe Kelly, the little sprawny little guy with the glasses just being like, come on, come on, let's fucking go and just go into town.
speaker-1 (1:49:47)
Fighting.
speaker-0 (1:49:47)
He loved fighting and I love Joe Kelly. I
speaker-1 (1:49:50)
It's not even
speaker-0 (1:49:51)
didn't not wear my Joe Kelly Fight Club shirt.
speaker-1 (1:49:54)
Not even is this most memorable confrontation.
The the pouty face the pouty face was epic.
speaker-0 (1:50:01)
Fight Club was a better fight in my opinion.
speaker-1 (1:50:04)
That's
the one Yankee moment I had. And I was gonna say Well that's why I'm taking it now. I knew I could let it fall because you guys were gonna load up on Red Sox and then I'd be free to
speaker-0 (1:50:20)
I'm perfectly happy with my picks here. I'm perfectly happy.
speaker-1 (1:50:24)
You're just a violent little man. All you want is fights.
speaker-0 (1:50:27)
Yes. I want to see the Yankees get their asses kicked. Physically.
speaker-1 (1:50:34)
my first pick of the wraparound I will go Kurt Schilling's bloody sock game in game six. Yep. The O four series. I
speaker-0 (1:50:41)
John's got some John's got some words about the bloody sock
speaker-1 (1:50:44)
John's a conspiracy theorist. Shilling ruptured a tendon in his ankle. There were he had stitches to prove it. And he threw he went out and threw seven shutout or no seven one-run innings against a very good Yankees offense. And when he clearly was not moving around well, the Yankees gifted that game to us because they weren't bunting on him for whatever reason. but that was probably the gutziest.
postseason performance of all time in terms of the circumstances, regardless of if John believes it or not.
speaker-0 (1:51:18)
jackass.
speaker-1 (1:51:20)
Yeah. Food colouring.
speaker-0 (1:51:22)
There's one from that game that you can take.
speaker-1 (1:51:24)
I'm not going to. I gotta see what year this was.
Forgot to write down what year this was. All right. 1976. I will be going to a Yankees Red Sox game where Lou Pinella, former manager at Yankee Stadium, slides in hard to Carlton Fisk. And probably one of the most intense Red Sox Yankees fights you've ever seen. They just start throwing absolute haymakers. Carlton Fisk throws.
throws a right hook into Lupinella's face as soon as he slides in. It's you don't see fights like this anymore. It was really funny to see like Dwight Evans running in for right field immediately. So that's that's Jose Ramirez, I think, has something to say about that. We still see fights like that.
Hey, fun fact, they did
speaker-0 (1:52:14)
Thank you.
speaker-1 (1:52:15)
who did Luke Pinello win the rookie of the year with?
I thought I thought that I thought it was Munson and Fisk.
speaker-0 (1:52:22)
No, Munson was a year and
speaker-1 (1:52:25)
Seventy three. I thought that was like s early seventies.
speaker-0 (1:52:29)
Well, because I have another fight involving Carlton Fisk on my list. I don't know if I'm going to.
speaker-1 (1:52:35)
Not
the Munson one? I'm not taking the Munson one.
speaker-0 (1:52:38)
It is the month. I don't think I'm going to take it, but it is the month in one.
speaker-1 (1:52:41)
Fun fact if you want to use it, Fisk beat out Munson for the All Star game that year and apparently Munson took it personally for like the rest of his career. And that was what heated the whole thing up.
speaker-0 (1:52:53)
You
know this. You might know this. Did Fisk and Pennella win Rookie of Year the same year John was asking that?
speaker-1 (1:53:03)
No, I said who did Pinell win the rookie of the year with?
speaker-0 (1:53:06)
who did he win it
speaker-1 (1:53:08)
Motherfucking cancer. I would've I would have guessed the Mariners, but I I think of Lupinella as a mariner just because of his manager. It was the
speaker-0 (1:53:14)
I
speaker-1 (1:53:15)
I don't know much about Lou Pinella's playing career. He was okay.
speaker-0 (1:53:19)
I misunderstood your question. All right, John, you're up.
speaker-1 (1:53:22)
Okay. fuck it. Give me the other big poppy walk off. O four game five s RBI single on the fourteenth.
speaker-0 (1:53:31)
Pretty good.
speaker-1 (1:53:32)
Yeah. Later in the game. Damon running to the plate and he can keep on running to New York. All time broadcast call. Really good. Really good fucking swing. Joe Buck was in his bag that year.
Two fun ones. I've got two fun ones I can roll with. I have an old one.
speaker-0 (1:53:47)
Again, I feel like I got an old one that I don't really think should be left off considering it.
speaker-1 (1:53:54)
take Babe Ruth getting traded to the Yankees. Do it.
speaker-0 (1:53:58)
Yeah, I think I think I'm not leaving off the curse of the Bambino the I'm not leaving off the or the start of the rivalry basically, I'm taking Babe Ruth getting traded to the Yankees to finance a play because you know that is that what Craig Breslau would do now, Caleb?
And then...
I'll take, I was gonna go with a personal one that I was there for. That you guys won't take it. I'm gonna take A-Rod slapping the ball away. Because that was a perfect, perfect moment to show the Yankees frustration was starting. The collapse was really in their heads now. I mean, A-Rod, you know, we've all seen the photo of him with the purse. Perfectly memeable moment. I was gonna take, there was a...
JBJ, Benchless Glaring Brawl in 2016. I was there for that. That was pretty fucking sick.
speaker-1 (1:54:51)
You're going too niche.
speaker-0 (1:54:53)
I know I'm going to. No, I didn't take it. That's why I didn't fucking take it. But that was a personal favorite. He threw out Chase Headley. Was it Chase Headley or Chase Utley? think it was. Yeah, it Chase Headley. Chase Headley at third base. Just a fucking great game to watch, great game to be at.
I was 14 when it happened, so I'm just screaming every profanity in the book at the Yankees from like so far away. yeah, I'll take a round slaps of all.
speaker-1 (1:55:29)
I've torn between two and I really hope John takes one of the two to make this decision easier for me. I'm not. I don't think I'm gonna take the one you want.
Can I take the nineteen forty one season?
speaker-0 (1:55:42)
No, can't take a seat. You cannot take a seat.
speaker-1 (1:55:43)
I can't take I can't take easy.
I can't take a Red Sox and Yankees accomplishment, historical accomplishment that ran alongside each other the entire year. Because I want to take Ted Williams hitting four six and DiMaggio's hitting streak. By the way, Ted Williams hit like four twenty five during DiMaggio's streak, which put him over the top. If I can't take it, I have another one. I I would allow it just because it's
That itself is kind of a a conversation topic. The MVP Demogio won MVP and Red Sox fans think William should have won the MVP. The old
speaker-0 (1:56:21)
only thing is, we said you can't take, I'm not totally against it, but we did say you can't take.
speaker-1 (1:56:29)
Yeah, I'm
Frame it as the forty one MVP race. Okay, so then never mind. I I won't take if you want me to. I have a better I have a good one.
speaker-0 (1:56:38)
Leave it for honorable measure. We can leave it for honorable measure.
speaker-1 (1:56:41)
I'm
gonna take the the Boston Massacre. Jeez.
speaker-0 (1:56:45)
What sh-
speaker-1 (1:56:46)
I believe it was 79. They made Was it 79? when the the Red Sox blew a 14 and a half game lead. Yeah. But the Yankees were down four going at the year
speaker-0 (1:56:57)
Was that the day they
speaker-1 (1:56:59)
78. 78? Can you fact check me on that? 78 or 79? Because
speaker-0 (1:57:04)
my big
speaker-1 (1:57:05)
the the Red Sox.
We're up four games in the division. Yankees came in, swept the series, went f won the series forty two to nine. I was
speaker-0 (1:57:15)
I was thinking of I was thinking of 49 Yankees
speaker-1 (1:57:19)
No.
speaker-0 (1:57:21)
Yankee. Yeah, you were there The Red Sox had two games to clinch the pendant against the Yankees in the last two games of the day of the season And they didn't because they were the Red Sox and they never did anything good at that time. I had a feeling Caleb was not gonna take that
speaker-1 (1:57:38)
No, probably not.
speaker-0 (1:57:40)
So you're taking 78?
speaker-1 (1:57:42)
I'm gonna take the seventy eight Boston Massacre.
I I personally believe that the seventies is when the modern Red Sox Yankees rivalry really became a thing. You had the Munson fight with Fisk, you had that. You it was a lot of good moments in the late seventies. Bucky Dent's home run in the seventies. So the late seventies is when I think of the Yankees Red Sox like best era of the rivalry.
speaker-0 (1:58:11)
04 was the best. Like 03, 04, that time was undoubtedly the best.
speaker-1 (1:58:18)
Caleb, you one pick. Yeah. I I know the game I'm going with, but I kind of want to narrow it down to one moment. I guess you can count this as a moment. I'm taking Brock Holt in game three of the 2018 ALDS. The cycle.
speaker-0 (1:58:34)
The cycle! don't- My- On my list.
speaker-1 (1:58:40)
I kind of want to focus on the game as a whole because Luis Severino forgot what time the game was.
Went out and gave up what, eight runs?
speaker-0 (1:58:48)
In like what, three innings? Two innings?
speaker-1 (1:58:49)
Yeah,
he got absolutely pounded. The Red Sox won the game sixteen to one. Brock Holt hit for the cycle. The Red Sox had lost game two previously. Gary Sanchez was running laps around us in game two. And then the Red Sox come out, put up sixteen on the Yankees in Yankee Stadium. Brock Holt hits for the cycle. He's doing the double celly, swinging his hips and shit. And then the Homer off of the position player to make the Yankee fans cry.
It's not a real cycle. They don't care. He hit the ball. Did the ball go over the fence? Did the ball over the fence? Over that little short porch in right field, giving the Brock Holt cycle in game three of twenty eighteen.
Alex, do you want me to do unbiased honorable mentions?
speaker-0 (1:59:33)
Hold on, let me me read them off. Alex has the steel Baratek a rod fight. Joe Kelly Fight Club. Curse of the Bambino and a rod slapping the ball away. John has Aaron Boone's home run Pedro Sla slamming Zimmer, not slapping Bucky Dent should have slapped poppies poppies game five walk off and the 1978 Boston Massacre. Caleb has the David Ortiz walk off in 04.
Bill Miller's game tying single in 04, Kurt Schilling's bloody sock, Carlton Fisk and Lou Pennella fight, and Brock Holt hitting for the cycle. Make sure to vote on the draft at ChaoticallyIntolerant.com. Let's get into the honorable mentions.
speaker-1 (2:00:19)
Caleb, I'll run through mine because I have some Yankees. I've just got one. Okay, what's yours? mine is the the back to back to back to back home runs in seven at Fenway Park. It was JD Drew, Mike Lowell, Jason Farretech, and Manny, I believe. Maybe not in that order, but Manny. That's that that that series against the Yankees in seven kind of got the Red Sox going. And they were down three nothing in that game and immediately put up
Four home runs in a row, won that game, and went on to win the World Series. Great team. JD Drew mentioned. I've got Mike Bucino one out away from a perfect game and a one. Carl Every, I have Yeah, yeah. Right before 911, too. I have it was. It was right before we went like on a baseball break there for a minute. Yeah. I've got Pedro's 17K, one hit performance out.
speaker-0 (2:01:15)
Yes, I had it. had it. God damn it.
speaker-1 (2:01:21)
I have the Fisk and Munson fight. on the
speaker-0 (2:01:25)
We're just f***ed up about that.
speaker-1 (2:01:26)
Carlton Fisk edging out Munson as the All Star Game Starter and Fred Munson was not pleased by that. and then my last one, I have twenty one Red Sox pounding Garrett Cole in the winner take all wild. Xander
speaker-0 (2:01:42)
That was fucking amazing.
speaker-1 (2:01:44)
Xander's first sitting home run.
on the back of my list. What? Cole went like three and a quarter or three and a three point one innings or something or three and a three. Yeah, three and a quarter. And then got pulled after Kyle Schwarber took him to the fucking red seat. And then I had the n the forty one MVP race, that I was somehow not allowed to take, even though that was a great pull. I was for it. Great pull.
speaker-0 (2:02:08)
I wasn't completely against it, but I was like, let's
speaker-1 (2:02:10)
Well you
speaker-0 (2:02:11)
have some reasoning. I never said no, said, let's have some reasoning here. If you can't take the 2004 ALCS, you can't take a whole season.
speaker-1 (2:02:19)
No, it was a specific storyline from a season. But you're right. If you can't take the 3-0 comeback, then you can't take an MVP race. I'll give you that. A Yankee robbed Ted Williams of the MVP in 42 the next year. Joe Gordon did not deserve it in any way. Ted Williams was robbed of about four MVPs in in his career. By the way, I also want to throw out that my Johnny Bench guess for that trivia question was a very good guess. He won the seventy and seventy-two MVP and he won the seventy-six World Series MVP.
So that was the first place my mind went. And then I was kinda blank. I thought I had the answer. All Star Game MVP. All Star Game MVP is all those. It's so weird. So weird. Hosmer won All Star Game MVP. My mind went to Jaron Duran and I'm like, I don't I don't think he's won MVP.
speaker-0 (2:03:04)
I had on my list who's your daddy Pedro called the Yankees my daddy Hanley Ramirez's walk off I think it was in 17 Chapman
speaker-1 (2:03:19)
sixteen
off potentas. Sixteen
speaker-0 (2:03:22)
Was that
speaker-1 (2:03:23)
or seventeen. It might have been seventeen.
speaker-0 (2:03:25)
think
it was 17. I'm pretty sure it was 17 because it was a late series in, well, obviously in Fenway and in 16, I was at that series and in August in Fenway.
speaker-1 (2:03:36)
No, that was sixteen. That was sixteen 'cause they had Chris Young on the team. Chris Young World's Legend. Poppy was on the team. Pedroya, Chris Young.
speaker-0 (2:03:45)
September
speaker-1 (2:03:45)
Yeah.
speaker-0 (2:03:46)
mid September 16.
speaker-1 (2:03:47)
Sixteen, yeah.
speaker-0 (2:03:51)
JBJ's benches clearing. wasn't even like a brawl, but the benches cleared JBJ throughout Chase Edley. A-Rod's final game at Fenway as well. Like the final series.
speaker-1 (2:04:04)
Ryan Tempster threw at him.
speaker-0 (2:04:06)
Yeah.
speaker-1 (2:04:09)
I'll throw one in Brooks Brooks Chrisky blowing a three run lead by throwing eighty straight splitters through
speaker-0 (2:04:16)
I
got. my God. He
speaker-1 (2:04:18)
That a birthday.
speaker-0 (2:04:19)
couldn't he couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat at that point. Yankees, the first playoff meeting in 99 Yankees beat. won four to one. It wasn't really a big moment, but.
49
Red Sox needed one of the final two games clinched the pendant and the Yankees won both of them and then a 21 wild card game. That's it All right.
